    Validation of the illustrated questionnaire on food consumption for Brazilian schoolchildren (QUACEB) for 6- to 10-year-old children

    IntroductionEvaluating the food consumption of school-aged children is crucial to monitor their dietary habits, promote targeted interventions, and contribute public policies that aimed healthy eating. In this context, our objective was to develop and validate the Illustrated Questionnaire on Food Consumption for Brazilian Schoolchildren (QUACEB) of 6 to 10 years old, which is a self-reported illustrated recall.MethodsValidity was obtained in four stages as follows: selection of foods, validation of items, validation of illustrations, and pretest. Foods were selected by considering the data from the main surveys that have been conducted with the Brazilian population and schoolchildren in recent years, the degree of food processing, and the main foods from each of the country's five macroregions. The content of the items was validated by comparing the children's and their parent's responses. For this, the questionnaire was published in an online format, and 6- to 10-year-old elementary schoolchildren were recruited using the snowball technique. The first part of the questionnaire was answered by the parent after the child's lunch, and the second was completed by the child the following day. Thirty-two parent and child dyads participated. Sensitivity, specificity, area under the curve (AUC), and kappa (k) tests were performed.ResultsOf the 30 foods presented on the questionnaire, 15 were reported as consumed. High sensitivity (mean of 88.5%), high specificity (average of 92.0%), substantial agreement (k = 0.78), low disagreement (6.2%), and AUC of 0.90 were found. The illustrations were validated in a focus group with fourth-grade children from a school chosen for convenience. The food illustrations were designed for children, who were asked to name the food. Eighteen children participated and verified that the images were representative of the foods. In the pretest, three schools were chosen for convenience that announced the link to the online questionnaire in WhatsApp groups of parents with students from first to fifth grade. Fifteen children answered the questionnaire and 86.7% (n = 13) judged it excellent or good.ConclusionThus, the food consumption questionnaire is valid for elementary schoolchildren of 6 to 10 years old and can be applied in research to assess the dietary patterns of children in Brazil

    Prevalence of dental fluorosis in Curitiba, Brazil, in the years of 2006 and 2016 / Prevalência da fluorose dental em Curitiba, Brasil, nos anos de 2006 e 2016

    Objective. The objective of this study was to describe the prevalence of dental fluorosis (DF) in 12-year-old schoolchildren from Curitiba, Brazil, in the years of 2006 and 2016.Methods. Participants were randomly selected from municipal, state and private schools. Schoolchildren were randomly chosen from within the Health Districts (HD), and thus a total of 679 and 934 participated in the years of 2006 and 2016 respectively. They were examined and their DF was classified according to the modified Dean index. The data were analyzed to determine distribution and the Chi-square test was used to search for associations between the outcome (DF) and the dependent variables (gender and HD), using SPSS, version 21.0.Results. There was an overall decrease in DF cases from 27.7% to 17.0 % (OR = 1.83; 95% CI: 1.44 - 2.33) in the period analyzed. There was an increase in cases of moderate DF from 16.5% in 2006 to 20.5% in 2016 however, without statistical significance (OR = 0.76; 95% CI: 0.44 - 1.31). When the variables gender and HD were included in the bivariate analysis, they presented no significant association with the outcome (p> 0.05).Conclusions. The decrease in the prevalence of DF was significant in the period, although the values remained high, and that the dependent variables were not significantly associated with the outcome.

    Trata-se de pesquisa quantitativa que teve como objetivo investigar a iniciação sexual de adolescentes do sexo masculino em Concórdia, Santa Catarina. Participaram da mesma 340 adolescentes do sexo masculino, com idades entre 14 e 19 anos, que freqüentavam o ensino médio em seis instituições de ensino do município de Concórdia, que aceitaram participar e que trouxeram o Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido assinado pelos pais ou responsáveis. Destes, 69,7% afirmaram ter relações sexuais, sendo que a média de idade da primeira relação foi de 14,4 anos, menor que a média nacional de 15 anos. A primeira relação sexual ocorreu com uma ficante para 45,1% e 64,2% afirmaram que o principal motivo para a mesma foi vontade/tesão. A maioria (74,2%) qualificou a experiência como boa ou muito boa. O uso da camisinha foi apontado como método utilizado na primeira relação sexual por 73,8% dos adolescentes e como método usado em todas as relações por 72,5%. Alguns adolescentes relataram não conversar sobre sexualidade, mas a maioria aponta os amigos como principal fonte de informações sobre sexo. Frente ao exposto, fica claro que apesar de terem sua primeira relação sexual cada vez mais precocemente, o diálogo sobre prevenção tem surtido efeito, o que é reforçado pelo uso expressivo do preservativo entre os adolescentes

    Resumo Nanotecnologia é a utilização de materiais na escala nanométrica, em que estes adquirem características próprias. A área de pesquisa e desenvolvimento de novos nanomedicamentos é uma das mais promissoras atualmente, todavia essas partículas necessitam de avaliação particular e ainda não há consenso referente às testagens específicas a serem seguidas, o que dificulta a formação de uma legislação que garanta a segurança e eficácia destes medicamentos, além de um processo de registro mais eficaz. Assim, é necessária uma abordagem bioética da nanotecnologia e sua utilização em medicamentos, visando garantir que o progresso científico não acarrete impactos irreversíveis. Diante dessa problemática, busca-se promover uma discussão nanoética referente ao processo de pesquisa e desenvolvimento de nanomedicamentos, por meio de estudo qualitativo, exploratório-descritivo e de caráter analítico, utilizando revisão bibliográfica, análise documental e dados quantitativos disponíveis como técnicas de pesquisa
