    Get PDF
In this paper we investigated the development of the proving process within a dynamic geometry environment in order to provide tertiary students with a strategy for proving. As a result, we classified different levels of proving and designed an interactive help system corresponding with these levels. This help system makes a contribution to bridge the cognitive gaps between conjecture and proof. We also propose three basic conditions for understanding the development of the proving process

A Multi-Criteria Ranking System for Prioritizing Maintenance of Levee Systems in Arkansas

There are 208,009 properties in Arkansas that have more than a 26% chance of being severely affected by flooding over the next 30 years, which represents 13% of all properties in the state. A levee system is designed to reduce the flooding risk for urban and rural communities; however, most of the state\u27s levees have been significantly outdated or built with engineering standards less rigorous than current best practices. The Levee Safety Action Classification (LSAC), as recorded in the National Levee Database (NLD), communicates the risk associated with living behind a particular levee and assists local, state, and federal stakeholders in identifying and prioritizing funding needs. It is expected that LSAC will decrease as flood risk decreases. However, in some cases, the LSAC for a particular levee may stay High even if it is in perfect condition when the area behind it is densely populated or significantly developed. We develop a multi-criterion ranking framework, integrating Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods (i.e., a CRITIC-TOPSIS approach), for prioritizing maintenance of the Arkansas levee systems in Arkansas using the NLD data. The results show the rankings from each method are not significantly different from each other. When compared to the LSAC, it is important to note that the top-ranked levee systems obtained using the PCA or CRITIC-TOPSIS ranking method often have a low to moderate LSAC. Therefore, they are mostly in low priority of maintenance by according to the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), despite having a higher probability of being in poor conditions or having design and performance issues. Moreover, we perform a cost-benefit analysis, comparing the operating and maintaining costs with the associated benefits to determine maintenance prioritization. Additionally, we propose other modeling frameworks, such as multi-objective decision analysis (MODA) and sequential decision-making methods, that are suitable for this problem but cannot be implemented in this research due to limited data and stakeholder involvement

The proportion of the elderly in Vietnam is happening with rapidly growing numbers. This is an inevitable trend in Vietnamese society, and also a problem - a challenge for the government. The main goal of our country in particular is to point out and face the immediate situation (high aging rate of the population), and at the same time find a strategy that is suitable for the development of the country as well as consistent with the common interests of the current elderly group; making predictions to take the right steps to minimize the risks and risks from its negative sides. This article discusses the general situation of population aging in recent years in Vietnam; give specific numbers and statistics on this issue. From there, this article will highlight the opportunities and challenges that this country is facing - especially the impact on the country's economy and give a number of recommendations related to the improvementin order to build a satisfactory welfare and welfare system for the elderly in the current aging population in Vietnam. The article uses the method of surveying a number of interviewers to find suitable solutions, and the results show that the problem of the elderly, even though not alarmed since the elderly in Vietnam are still taken care by children and their families rather well. However, there is quite a big concern we need to pay more attention, that is, the economic burden will be an issue for society in the future, especially in the medical field

Personal Security in the Application of Online Software in the Technology Period 4.0

Over the three industrial revolutions, man has achieved great achievements. But besides that great success will always go hand in hand with many problems that arise. Because the rate at which technology develops is directly proportional to the threats it poses. The emergence of new technology requires researchers and students to pay attention to discover new threats to make it reliable and user-friendly. In the meantime 4.0 cloud computing is a new technology model. Security issues in cloud computing are considered one of the biggest obstacles besides the broad benefits of cloud computing. New concepts introduced by the cloud create new challenges for the security community. Addressing these challenges requires, in addition to the ability to cultivate and adjust security measures developed for other systems, to propose new security policies, models and protocols to address optimal and effective cloud security challenges. In this article, we provide comprehensive research on cloud security including classification of known security threats and advanced practices in attempting to address these threats. The paper also provides classification dependency and provides solutions in the form of preventive action rather than proactive action

Active disturbance rejection control-based anti-coupling method for conical magnetic bearings

    Get PDF
Conical-shape magnetic bearings are currently a potential candidate for various magnetic force-supported applications due to their unique geometric nature reducing the number of required active magnets. However, the bearing structure places control-engineering related problems in view of underactuated and coupling phenomena. The paper proposes an Adaptive Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC) for solving the above-mentioned problem in the conical magnetic bearing. At first, virtual current controls are identified to decouple the electrical sub-system, then the active disturbance rejection control is employed to eliminate coupling effects owing to rotational motions. Comprehensive simulations are provided to illustrate the control ability

EAGLE—A Scalable Query Processing Engine for Linked Sensor Data

    Get PDF
Recently, many approaches have been proposed to manage sensor data using semantic web technologies for effective heterogeneous data integration. However, our empirical observations revealed that these solutions primarily focused on semantic relationships and unfortunately paid less attention to spatio–temporal correlations. Most semantic approaches do not have spatio–temporal support. Some of them have attempted to provide full spatio–temporal support, but have poor performance for complex spatio–temporal aggregate queries. In addition, while the volume of sensor data is rapidly growing, the challenge of querying and managing the massive volumes of data generated by sensing devices still remains unsolved. In this article, we introduce EAGLE, a spatio–temporal query engine for querying sensor data based on the linked data model. The ultimate goal of EAGLE is to provide an elastic and scalable system which allows fast searching and analysis with respect to the relationships of space, time and semantics in sensor data. We also extend SPARQL with a set of new query operators in order to support spatio–temporal computing in the linked sensor data context.EC/H2020/732679/EU/ACTivating InnoVative IoT smart living environments for AGEing well/ACTIVAGEEC/H2020/661180/EU/A Scalable and Elastic Platform for Near-Realtime Analytics for The Graph of Everything/SMARTE

The article presents briefly findings in researching methods for determining dynamic stress of the bars in the main structure of gantry crane installed on the cap of bridge pier to install and launch SUPER-T girder. In order to study the dynamic stresses in the bars of the main truss structure of the gantry, the author first had to build a dynamic model, using Matlap software to solve the problem of dynamics with two cases cargo lowering combination combines braking and moving of gantry with cargo to find out the rules and values of dynamic cable tension, dynamic inertial force ( time-varying force), then consider these forces is the external force acting on the main truss structure model of the gantry, from which the author calculates the value of internal force and stress of each bar corresponding to the value of dynamic cable tension and corresponding dynamic inertia force. with two adverse working cases of the gantry. Using Matlap software to calculate the author has obtained a graph of internal force, stress changes over time of each bar in the main truss steel structure of the gantry. The findings of the research provided methods for determining the dynamic stress of the bars in the main structure of gantry crane, pointed out values and rules of change of the dynamic stress of the bars in the main structure of gantry crane. The findings of the research may be used to calculate fatigue, life-span of the main steel structures as well as other parts of the gantry cran
