Estudos citolĂłgicos e citoquĂmicos em Stenophoridae crawley, 1903 (Eugregarinidae, Protozoa): I - microscopia Ăłptica e citoquĂmica do nĂşcleo
The present paper consists of a morphological revision of gregarines belonging to the genus Stenophora LabbĂ©, 1899, specially referred to S. juli (Frantzius, 1848) LabbĂ©, 1899. Nuclear compounds were cytochemically characterized and on account of the positive reactions for RNA the corpuscle generally referred as "caryosome" was to be a "nucleole". The finelly divided DNA of the nucleoplasm caused a weak reaction. The structure of the nucleole depends on the technic used. These results must be compared with those obtained with the electronic microscope

Mariniblastus fucicola gen. nov., sp. nov. a novel planctomycete associated with macroalgae
One strain of a novel genus and species of the order Planctomycetes, designated FC18T, was isolated from the epiphytic community of Fucusspiralis. This strain was non-pigmented in medium M13 but was slightly pink pigmented on medium M14, containing four-fold the levels of glucose, peptone and yeast extract of M13. The organism was primarily spherical, with unicellular non-motile forms and rosettes. The optimal temperature for growth was about 25 C and the optimal pH was 7.5. FC18T was chemoorganotrophic and aerobic. Several sugars, polyols and amino acids were assimilated. The major fatty acids were C18: 1 ω 9c, C14: 0 and C16: 0. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylglycerol (PG) and two unknown lipids. Menaquinone 5 (MK-5) was the main respiratory quinone, but MK-6 was also present. The results of the 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis confirmed the affiliation of this organism to the order Planctomycetales, family Planctomycetaceae, with Blastopirellula marina as the closest relative with only 86% sequence similarity. On the basis of physiological, biochemical and chemotaxonomic characteristics we propose that FC18T (=LMG 29748T =DSM 26290T) represents a novel species of a novel genus of the family Planctomycetaceae for which we propose the name Mariniblastusfucicola gen. nov., sp. nov. © 2017 IUMS.This work was partially supported by the Strategic Funding UID/Multi/ 04423/2013 through national funds provided by FCT ? Metastable states in the Blume-Emery-Griffiths spin glass model
We study the Blume-Emery-Griffiths spin glass model in presence of an
attractive coupling between real replicas, and evaluate the effective potential
as a function of the density overlap. We find that there is a region, above the
first order transition of the model, where metastable states with a large
density overlap exist. The line where these metastable states appear should
correspond to a purely dynamical transition, with a breaking of ergodicity.
Differently from what happens in p-spin glasses, in this model the dynamical
transition would not be the precursor of a 1-step RSB transition, but
(probably) of a full RSB transition.Comment: RevTeX, 4 pages, 2 fig
This report describes two patients with chronic Chagas' Heart Disease who developed clinical and laboratorial signs of myocardial infarction. Both patients presented sudden oppressive chest pain, without precipitating factor. In the first case, the highest MB-CK value was 65 IU, 22 hours after the beginning of the pain. On the second case, it was 77 IU at 18 hours after the beginning of the pain. In both cases ECG changes suggesting non-transmural infarction were present. The 99mTc PYP myocardial scintigram of the first case was positive. Coronary angiograms performed on the 18th and 9th day, respectively, after the acute infarction did not display obstructive lesions. Possible mechanisms causing myocardial infarction with normal coronary arteries in Chagas' Disease may include: embolic event's, particularly when there is associated congestive heart failure; coronary thrombosis and coronary spasms.SĂŁo relatados dois pacientes com doença de Chagas, forma cardĂaca crĂ´nica, que desenvolveram Infarto Agudo do Miocárdio (IAM).
