A hierarchic task-based programming model for distributed heterogeneous computing
Distributed computing platforms are evolving to heterogeneous ecosystems with Clusters, Grids and Clouds introducing in its computing nodes, processors with different core architectures, accelerators (i.e. GPUs, FPGAs), as well as different memories and storage devices in order to achieve better performance with lower energy consumption. As a consequence of this heterogeneity, programming applications for these distributed heterogeneous platforms becomes a complex task. Additionally to the complexity of developing an application for distributed platforms, developers must also deal now with the complexity of the different computing devices inside the node. In this article, we present a programming model that aims to facilitate the development and execution of applications in current and future distributed heterogeneous parallel architectures. This programming model is based on the hierarchical composition of the COMP Superscalar and Omp Superscalar programming models that allow developers to implement infrastructure-agnostic applications. The underlying runtime enables applications to adapt to the infrastructure without the need of maintaining different versions of the code. Our programming model proposal has been evaluated on real platforms, in terms of heterogeneous resource usage, performance and adaptation. This work has been supported by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation program

Centrality dependence of photon yield and elliptic flow from gluon fusion and splitting induced by magnetic fields in relativistic heavy-ion collisions
We compute the photon yield and elliptic flow coefficient in relativistic
heavy-ion collisions from gluon fusion and splitting processes induced by a
magnetic field for different centralities. The calculation accounts for the
intense magnetic field and the high gluon occupation number at early times. The
photon production induced by these process represents an excess contribution
over calculations without magnetic field effects. We compare this excess to the
difference between PHENIX data and recent hydrodynamic calculations for the
photon transverse momentum distribution and elliptic flow coefficient .
The time evolution of the field strength and reaction volume is computed using
UrQMD. We show that with reasonable values for the saturation scale, the
calculation helps to better describe the experimental results obtained at RHIC
energies for the lowest part of the transverse photon momentum at different
centralities.Comment: Expanded discussion. Version to appear in The European Physical

Implementation of CRM systems in portuguese municipalities
Customer relationship management is a business strategy which dynamically integrates a set of services with the purpose of creating value for the organisation and for their customers. In Portugal, the 2009/2010 edition of ‘Simplex for Municipalities’, the action plan carried by the Portuguese government through the Secretary’s Office of State for Administrative Modernisation, makes a commitment to promote a set of initiatives in order to help citizens using the public services. This process intends to reduce costs of context which burden the economic activities, making way for the modernisation of administration. Customer relationship management assumes a central role in this context. This paper presents the main results of a survey that was carried out with Portuguese municipalities, aiming a general characterisation of the adoption of customer relationship management systems, covering several aspects, fromthe motivations for CRMadoption to the obtained results. The improvement of the relationship with citizens and a higher information quality are some of the most important results obtained by municipalities
Prompt photon yield and coefficient from gluon fusion induced by magnetic field in heavy-ion collision
We compute the production of prompt photons and the harmonic
coefficient in relativistic heavy-ion collisions induced by gluon fusion in the
presence of an intense magnetic field, during the early stages of the reaction.
The calculations take into account several parameters which are relevant to the
description of the experimental transverse momentum distribution, and elliptic
flow for RHIC and LHC energies. The main imput is the strength of the magnetic
field which varies in magnitude from 1 to 3 times the pion mass squared, and
allows the gluon fusion that otherwise is forbidden in the absence of the
field. The high gluon occupation number and the value of the saturation scale
also play an important role in our calculation, as well as a flow velocity and
geometrical factors. Our results support the idea that the origin of at least
some of the photon excess observed in heavy-ion experiments may arise from
magnetic field induced processes, and gives a good description of the
experimental data.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, conference paper from ISMD 201
