Storage and Retrieval of a Microwave Field in a Spin Ensemble

We report the storage and retrieval of a small microwave field from a superconducting resonator into collective excitations of a spin ensemble. The spins are nitrogen-vacancy centers in a diamond crystal. The storage time of the order of 30 ns is limited by inhomogeneous broadening of the spin ensemble.Comment: 4 pages + supplementary material. Submitted to PR

Nanoarte e a fluidez da temporalidade construída: Durée - 200 Milhões de Anos

Consideramos que houve uma migração das textualidades tradicionais para o ciberespaço, o qual, além de abrigar tais textualidades, produz constantemente, pela sua própria dinâmica, novas arquiteturas textuais em permanente transformação. Em certa medida, as diferentes vertentes das inovações tecnológicas são responsáveis por essas transformações tendo em vista as novas linguagens que lhes deram materialidade. A nanoarte constitui–se em uma vertente recente e, por conta das dificuldades de acesso aos microscópios que produzem o material de base para a construção de signos que servirão ao processo de construção de novas criações, não é, ainda, de fácil acesso aos criadores. Entretanto, encontramos trabalhos em nanoarte disponíveis na Rede que apontam para textualidades criadas a partir de nano-partículas. nosso objetivo nesse estudo se constituirá na análise da obra de Anna Barros 200 Milhões de Anos: Durée nas implicações interdisciplinares que as relações entre Arte, Ciência e Tecnologia produzem.We believe that there was a migration from traditional textualities to cyberspace, which, besides hosting such textualities, constantly produces, by its own dynamics, new textual architectures constantly changing. Gemini NIFS survey of feeding and feedback processes in nearby Active Galaxies: I - Stellar kinematics

We use the Gemini Near-Infrared Integral Field Spectrograph (NIFS) to map the stellar kinematics of the inner few hundred parsecs of a sample of 16 nearby Seyfert galaxies, at a spatial resolution of tens of parsecs and spectral resolution of 40 km/s. We find that the line-of-sight (LOS) velocity fields for most galaxies are well reproduced by rotating disk models. The kinematic position angle (PA) derived for the LOS velocity field is consistent with the large scale photometric PA. The residual velocities are correlated with the hard X-ray luminosity, suggesting that more luminous AGN have a larger impact in the surrounding stellar dynamics. The central velocity dispersion values are usually higher than the rotation velocity amplitude, what we attribute to the strong contribution of bulge kinematics in these inner regions. For 50% of the galaxies, we find an inverse correlation between the velocities and the $h_3$ Gauss-Hermitte moment, implying red wings in the blueshifted side and blue wings in the redshifted side of the velocity field, attributed to the movement of the bulge stars lagging the rotation. Two of the 16 galaxies (NGC 5899 and Mrk 1066) show an S-shape zero velocity line, attributed to the gravitational potential of a nuclear bar. Velocity dispersion maps show rings of low-$\sigma$ values (50-80 km/s) for 4 objects and "patches" of low-sigma for 6 galaxies at 150-250 pc from the nucleus, attributed to young/ intermediate age stellar populations.Comment: To be published in MNRA

HCV Infection in Patients with Hereditary Bleeding Disorders

Introduction: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in patients with hereditary bleeding disorders (HBDs), as a consequence of treatment with transfusion of human bloodderived components between the late 1970s and 1980s, represents a major health concern. Objectives: Assessment and evaluation of the burden of HCV infection, its complications, and treatment in a population of patients with HBDs. Methods: Analysis of a series of 161 patients with HBDs treated in the Immunohemotherapy Service of the Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Central (Lisboa, Portugal), consultation and systematic review of the patients clinical processes, elaboration of a database comprising the information gathered; and statistical study of its variables: age, gender, degree of severity of the bleeding disorder, treatment modality, and major and minor complications of HCV infection. Results: Sixty-five (40%) of the 161 patients have HCV infection. Among the patients with hemophilia A, 36% are severe and 62% of those have HCV infection; 9% moderate with 57%; 25% mild with 20%. In the hemophilia B group, 8% are severe with 23% infected and 6% moderate or mild with 10%. Concerning the patients with von Willebrand disease, 12% have type 2 with 16% infected and 4% have type 3 with 86%. Conclusions: HCV infection represents a very significant complication of the treatment employed in the past in the studied population. Considering that most of these patients were infected in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and the natural evolution of HCV infection in patients without bleeding disorders, it is expected that the prevalence of major complications will rise significantly in the coming years. Prophylactic measures should be implemented to enhance the follow-up protocols and prevent further development of liver damage in these patients

Qualificação para transferência de tecnologias.

Um dos grandes problemas enfrentados pelas instituições de pesquisa e universidades é a transferência dos conhecimentos e tecnologias gerados para a sociedade. A maneira com que a informação pode chegar até o público varia desde a publicação dos resultados da pesquisa sobre forma de artigo científico, até a apresentação de um produto. Preocupada com a transferência de suas tecnologias, a Embrapa desenvolveu, com base em outras já existentes, a metodologia de Qualificação de Produtos. Utilizando-se desta metodologia, efetuou-se o levantamento de informações a respeito do Sistema de Limpeza de Águas Residuárias do Café ? SLAR , o qual foi qualificado e disponibilizado no portfólio de tecnologias da Unidade por ter sido considerado apto para ser transferido como produto ou na forma de consultoria para a sua instalação em fazendas interessadas. Outra possibilidade encontrada para transferência foi a incubação por empresas que oferecessem o sistema pronto para ser instalado o que facilitaria a sua adoção. A qualificação também apontou a possibilidade de capacitar multiplicadores para implementar a adoção da tecnologia. A disponibilização da tecnologia no portfólio, disposto no sítio da Embrapa Café, deu visibilidade à tecnologia e vários contatos foram feitos a partir da publicação. Portanto, a qualificação de tecnologias tem se mostrado uma metodologia adequada à transferência de produtos de pesquisa desenvolvidos pela Unidade

Avaliação dos impactos de tecnologias - os frutos da pesquisa em café.

Este trabalho aborda a Avaliação dos Impactos de Tecnologias Agropecuárias, descreve a metodologia adotada pela Embrapa e mostra os principais avanços dados pela Embrapa Café na aplicação da Avaliação de Impactos Econômicos, Sociais e Ambientais. Os trabalhos de Avaliação são multidisciplinares, analisam os aspectos relevantes ao desenvolvimento sustentável. A adoção pela Embrapa faz com que sejam conduzidas centenas de Avaliações de Impactos, o que enriquece a análise das tecnologias, traz maior transparência ao uso dos recursos públicos e realimento o processo de pesquisa agropecuária. A Embrapa Café deu importantes avanços recentemente e caminha para a adoção sistemática dessa ferramenta em suas atividades
