The ring compression test: Analysis of dimensions and canonical geometry
The compression ring test is universally accepted as a perfectly valid method by which determine simply and reliably the adhesion friction factor in a plastic deformation process. Its methodology is based on the application of geometric changes as both the reduction in thickness as the decrease in bore inner diameter in the strained ring itself. In this paper the performance of that test is the basis for establishing the coefficient of friction on a forging process so that, given this, its application to Upper Bound Theorem (UBT) by model Triangular Rigid Zones (TRZ), enable the establishment an intercomparison with empirical force, reaching a cuasivalidation of this Theorem in a certain range.
basearia a força do desenvolvimento social.
This paper aims to discuss the role of SAIs as public audit entities, and is contribution to
good governance. From the various bibliographical studies carried out, it was found that
good governance is considered as a good form of governance, based on public
participation, transparency, accountability, respect, compliance with the law and
meeting the needs of the population for social development.
In view of the defined work objectives, an interview guide was produced and applied to
a number of qualified interviewees which used public audit. Their opinions, experiences
and insights were collected on how good governance occurs; how it is transparent and
of much to guard against the risks of public activity and how much it allows the
application of accountability today in Portugal. The public audit outcome will be to
create public value and trust for an entire community.
According to the reference literature and the interviewees, the public context audit
plays a decisive role in the achievement of good governance. In addition, several
international reference organizations (OECD, UN, IMF, World Bank, among others)
pursue and foster good governance not only, but also through the reinforcement of
public auditing practices and procedures, regarding the complementary role between
the production of compliance audits and performance audits.
From the interviews with the qualified actors in these matters, important contributions
were obtained, in particular to reinforce the practice of good governance through public
auditing and the reports produced by it, thus reinforcing citizenship.N/
Relations between the diffusion anomaly and cooperative rearranging regions in a hydrophobically nanoconfined water monolayer
We simulate liquid water between hydrophobic walls separated by 0.5 nm, to
study how the diffusion constant D_\parallel parallel to the walls depends on
the microscopic structure of water. At low temperature T, water diffusion can
be associated with the number of defects in the hydrogen bonds network.
However, the number of defects solely does not account for the peculiar
diffusion of water, with maxima and minima along isotherms. Here, we calculate
a relation that quantitatively reproduces the behavior of D_\parallel, focusing
on the high-T regime. We clarify how the interplay between breaking of hydrogen
bonds and cooperative rearranging regions of 1-nm size gives rise to the
diffusion extrema, possibly relevant for both bulk and nanoconfined water.Comment: Published version; extended references, 5 pages, 3 figure
A zero-thickness mortar/ interface formulation with application to fracture mechanics
A zero-thickness mortar/interface element formulation is briefly described and demonstrated. This element may be considered as an extension of traditional zero-thickness interface element, in order to represent material interfaces located in between subdomains with non-matching FE meshes. In the context of small strain analysis, these elements may be equipped with the same type of constitutive laws as traditional interface elements. Therefore, if friction or fracture-mechanics-based laws are adopted, mortar/interface elements may be used to represent frictional sliding or cracking following the lines (surfaces) along which they have been pre-inserted. Two basic verification examples of this type are presented, showing that the model can correctly represent uniform states of stress and deformation when connecting unmatched mesh subdomains
An exploration of student mentoring to motivate and to enhance interactive learning in undergraduate engineering courses
