Unpacking constructs: a network approach for studying war exposure, daily stressors and post-traumatic stress disorder
Conflict affected populations are exposed to stressful events during and after war, and it is well established that both take a substantial toll on individuals' mental health. Exactly how exposure to events during and after war affect mental health is a topic of considerable debate. Various hypotheses have been put forward on the relation between stressful war exposure (SWE), daily stressors (DS) and the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This paper seeks to contribute to this debate by critically reflecting upon conventional modeling approaches and by advancing an alternative model to studying interrelationships between SWE, DS, and PTSD variables. The network model is proposed as an innovative and comprehensive modeling approach in the field of mental health in the context of war. It involves a conceptualization and representation of variables and relationships that better approach reality, hence improving methodological rigor. It also promises utility in programming and delivering mental health support for war-affected populations
Does Time-Symmetry Imply Retrocausality? How the Quantum World Says "Maybe"
It has often been suggested that retrocausality offers a solution to some of
the puzzles of quantum mechanics: e.g., that it allows a Lorentz-invariant
explanation of Bell correlations, and other manifestations of quantum
nonlocality, without action-at-a-distance. Some writers have argued that
time-symmetry counts in favour of such a view, in the sense that retrocausality
would be a natural consequence of a truly time-symmetric theory of the quantum
world. Critics object that there is complete time-symmetry in classical
physics, and yet no apparent retrocausality. Why should the quantum world be
any different? This note throws some new light on these matters. I call
attention to a respect in which quantum mechanics is different, under some
assumptions about quantum ontology. Under these assumptions, the combination of
time-symmetry without retrocausality is unavailable in quantum mechanics, for
reasons intimately connected with the differences between classical and quantum
physics (especially the role of discreteness in the latter). Not all
interpretations of quantum mechanics share these assumptions, however, and in

Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus: Evaluation and Modelling of Verbal Associations
We present a quantitative analysis of human word association pairs and study
the types of relations presented in the associations. We put our main focus on
the correlation between response types and respondent characteristics such as
occupation and gender by contrasting syntagmatic and paradigmatic associations.
Finally, we propose a personalised distributed word association model and show
the importance of incorporating demographic factors into the models commonly

Entanglement genesis by ancilla-based parity measurement in 2D circuit QED
We present an indirect two-qubit parity meter in planar circuit quantum
electrodynamics, realized by discrete interaction with an ancilla and a
subsequent projective ancilla measurement with a dedicated, dispersively
coupled resonator. Quantum process tomography and successful entanglement by
measurement demonstrate that the meter is intrinsically quantum non-demolition.
Separate interaction and measurement steps allow commencing subsequent data
qubit operations in parallel with ancilla measurement, offering time savings

Spin-polarized x-ray emission of 3d transition-metal ions: A comparison via K a and K Ă detection
This paper demonstrates that spin-polarized x-ray-excitation spectra can be obtained using K a emission as
well as K Ă lines. A spin-polarized analysis of K a x-ray emission and the excitation spectra by K a detection
on a Ni compound is reported. A systematic analysis of the first-row transition-metal ions using the ligand-field
multiplet calculation is presented for K a and K Ă emission spectra
Partial-measurement back-action and non-classical weak values in a superconducting circuit
We realize indirect partial measurement of a transmon qubit in circuit
quantum electrodynamics by interaction with an ancilla qubit and projective
ancilla measurement with a dedicated readout resonator. Accurate control of the
interaction and ancilla measurement basis allows tailoring the measurement
strength and operator. The tradeoff between measurement strength and qubit
back-action is characterized through the distortion of a qubit Rabi oscillation
imposed by ancilla measurement in different bases. Combining partial and
projective qubit measurements, we provide the solid-state demonstration of the
correspondence between a non-classical weak value and the violation of a

The first case of genetically confirmed monozygotic twinning in the dog
Monozygotic twinning has not previously been genetically confirmed in the dog. This case report describes the finding of two viable male monozygotic foetuses within one placental site during caesarean section. Their umbilical cords attached to a single placenta. Genetic profiling using a total of 38 microsatellite markers, as well as amelogenin and SRY for sex determination, revealed identical DNA profiles, whether derived from blood or tissue (buccal swabs) samples. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of monozygotic twinning in the dog confirmed using DNA profiling
Polarity patterns of stress fibers
Stress fibers are contractile actomyosin bundles commonly observed in the
cytoskeleton of metazoan cells. The spatial profile of the polarity of actin
filaments inside contractile actomyosin bundles is either monotonic (graded) or
periodic (alternating). In the framework of linear irreversible thermodynamics,
we write the constitutive equations for a polar, active, elastic
one-dimensional medium. An analysis of the resulting equations for the dynamics
of polarity shows that the transition from graded to alternating polarity
patterns is a nonequilibrium Lifshitz point. Active contractility is a
necessary condition for the emergence of sarcomeric, alternating polarity
