    MULHERES E O TRABALHO TERCEIRIZADO DE HIGIENIZAÇÃO E LIMPEZA NA PANDEMIA DE COVID-19: ENTRE INVISIBILIDADES E SOFRIMENTO

    This article aims to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of outsourced workers in hygiene and cleaning contracts in federal educational institutions (IFES) in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. To this end, the mixed methods technique is used, incorporating two stages of data collection, one quantitative via Google Forms and another qualitative with in-depth interviews via voice call. The data shows a worsening in the mental and physical health of outsourced cleaning workers during the pandemic. They also made it possible to verify the increase in the intensity of the working day and the impact of invisibility on the working reality of the workers. It is concluded that there are interests in the maintenance of outsourced female work, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, since there is profitability for the State and for outsourced companies. What makes women's work in the cleaning area increasingly precarious and invisible, without, however, reducing the harm on women's health.O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar qual o impacto da pandemia de COVID-19 na saúde mental de trabalhadoras terceirizadas em contratos de higienização e limpeza em instituições federais de ensino (IFES) no estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Esse tipo de atividade laboral é atravessado pela precarização das relações de trabalho, o que expõe as trabalhadoras a diversas desigualdades. Para tanto, se faz uso da técnica de métodos mistos, incorporando duas etapas de coleta de dados, uma quantitativa via Google Formulários e outra qualitativa com entrevistas em profundidade via chamada de voz. Os dados apresentam uma piora na saúde mental e física das trabalhadoras de limpeza terceirizadas durante a pandemia. Também permitiram averiguar o aumento na intensidade da jornada de trabalho e o impacto da invisibilização na realidade laboral das trabalhadoras.  Conclui-se que existem interesses na manutenção do trabalho feminino terceirizado, mesmo durante a pandemia de COVID-19, visto que há lucratividade para o Estado e para as empresas terceirizadas. Isso acarreta condições precarizadas e invisibilizadas de trabalho feminino na área de limpeza, ampliando os malefícios sobre a saúde das mulheres

    HATS-17b: A Transiting Compact Warm Jupiter in a 16.3 Days Circular Orbit

    We report the discovery of HATS-17b, the first transiting warm Jupiter of the HATSouth network. HATS-17b transits its bright (V=12.4) G-type (M_{\star}=1.131 ±\pm 0.030 M_{\odot}, R_{\star}=1.0910.046+0.070^{+0.070}_{-0.046} R_{\star}) metal-rich ([Fe/H]=+0.3 dex) host star in a circular orbit with a period of P=16.2546 days. HATS-17b has a very compact radius of 0.777 ±\pm 0.056 RJ_J given its Jupiter-like mass of 1.338 ±\pm 0.065 MJ_J. Up to 50% of the mass of HATS-17b may be composed of heavy elements in order to explain its high density with current models of planetary structure. HATS-17b is the longest period transiting planet discovered to date by a ground-based photometric survey, and is one of the brightest transiting warm Jupiter systems known. The brightness of HATS-17b will allow detailed follow-up observations to characterize the orbital geometry of the system and the atmosphere of the planet.Comment: 12 page, 8 figures, submitted to A

    HATS-18 b: An Extreme Short--Period Massive Transiting Planet Spinning Up Its Star

    We report the discovery by the HATSouth network of HATS-18 b: a 1.980 +/- 0.077 Mj, 1.337 +0.102 -0.049 Rj planet in a 0.8378 day orbit, around a solar analog star (mass 1.037 +/- 0.047 Msun, and radius 1.020 +0.057 -0.031 Rsun) with V=14.067 +/- 0.040 mag. The high planet mass, combined with its short orbital period, implies strong tidal coupling between the planetary orbit and the star. In fact, given its inferred age, HATS-18 shows evidence of significant tidal spin up, which together with WASP-19 (a very similar system) allows us to constrain the tidal quality factor for Sun-like stars to be in the range 6.5 <= lg(Q*/k_2) <= 7 even after allowing for extremely pessimistic model uncertainties. In addition, the HATS-18 system is among the best systems (and often the best system) for testing a multitude of star--planet interactions, be they gravitational, magnetic or radiative, as well as planet formation and migration theories.Comment: Submitted. 12 pages, 9 figures, 5 table

    HATS-11b and HATS-12b: Two transiting Hot Jupiters orbiting sub-solar metallicity stars selected for the K2 Campaign 7

    We report the discovery of two transiting extrasolar planets from the HATSouth survey. HATS-11, a V=14.1 G0-star shows a periodic 12.9 mmag dip in its light curve every 3.6192 days and a radial velocity variation consistent with a Keplerian orbit. HATS-11 has a mass of 1.000 ±\pm 0.060 M_{\odot}, a radius of 1.444 ±\pm 0.057 M_{\odot} and an effective temperature of 6060 ±\pm 150 K, while its companion is a 0.85 ±\pm 0.12 MJ_J, 1.510 ±\pm 0.078 RJ_J planet in a circular orbit. HATS-12 shows a periodic 5.1 mmag flux decrease every 3.1428 days and Keplerian RV variations around a V=12.8 F-star. HATS-12 has a mass of 1.489 ±\pm 0.071 M_{\odot}, a radius of 2.21 ±\pm 0.21 R_{\odot}, and an effective temperature of 6408 ±\pm 75 K. For HATS-12, our measurements indicate that this is a 2.38 ±\pm 0.11 MJ_J, 1.35 ±\pm 0.17 RJ_J planet in a circular orbit. Both host stars show sub-solar metallicity of -0.390 ±\pm 0.060 dex and -0.100 ±\pm 0.040 dex, respectively and are (slightly) evolved stars. In fact, HATS-11 is amongst the most metal-poor and, HATS-12 is amongst the most evolved stars hosting a hot Jupiter planet.     Tevatron Signatures of an R-parity Violating Supersymmetric Theory

    We show that an R-parity violating supersymmetric scenario which can account for the atmospheric nu(mu) deficit has testable signals at the Fermilab Tevatron with upgraded energy and luminosity. The explanation of neutrino masses and maximal nu(mu)-nu(tau) oscillation in terms of bilinear R-violating terms in the superpotential associates comparable numbers of muons and tau's resulting from decays of the lightest neutralino. We show that this should lead to like-sign dimuons and ditaus with substantial rates, in a form that separates them from standard model backgrounds and other signals of supersymmetry.     HATS-9b and HATS-10b: Two Compact Hot Jupiters in Field 7 of the K2 Mission

    We report the discovery of two transiting extrasolar planets by the HATSouth survey. HATS-9b orbits an old (10.8 ±\pm 1.5 Gyr) V=13.3 G dwarf star, with a period P = 1.9153 d. The host star has a mass of 1.03 M_{\odot}, radius of 1.503 R_\odot and effective temperature 5366 ±\pm 70 K. The planetary companion has a mass of 0.837 MJ_J, and radius of 1.065 RJ_J yielding a mean density of 0.85 g cm3^{-3} . HATS-10b orbits a V=13.1 G dwarf star, with a period P = 3.3128 d. The host star has a mass of 1.1 M_\odot, radius of 1.11 R_\odot and effective temperature 5880 ±\pm 120 K. The planetary companion has a mass of 0.53 MJ_J, and radius of 0.97 RJ_J yielding a mean density of 0.7 g cm3^{-3} . Both planets are compact in comparison with planets receiving similar irradiation from their host stars, and lie in the nominal coordinates of Field 7 of K2 but only HATS-9b falls on working silicon. Future characterisation of HATS-9b with the exquisite photometric precision of the Kepler telescope may provide measurements of its reflected light signature.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in A

    Children's daily travel to school in Johannesburg-Soweto, South Africa: geography and school choice in the Birth to Twenty cohort study

    This paper has two aims: to explore approaches to the measurement of children’s daily travel to school in a context of limited geospatial data availability, and to provide data regarding school choice and distance travelled to school in Soweto-Johannesburg, South Africa. The paper makes use of data from the Birth to Twenty cohort study (n=1428) to explore three different approaches to estimating school choice and travel to school. Firstly, straight-line distance between home and school is calculated. Secondly, census geography is used to determine whether a child's home and school fall in the same area. Thirdly, distance data are used to determine whether a child attends the nearest school. Each of these approaches highlights a different aspect of mobility, and all provide valuable data. Overall, primary school aged children in Soweto-Johannesburg are shown to be travelling substantial distances to school on a daily basis. Over a third travel more than 3km, one-way, to school, 60% attend schools outside of the suburb in which they live, and only 18% attend their nearest school. These data provide evidence for high levels of school choice in Johannesburg-Soweto, and that families and children are making substantial investments in pursuit of high quality educational opportunities. Additionally, these data suggest that two patterns of school choice are evident: one pattern involving travel of substantial distances and requiring a higher level of financial investment, and a second pattern, involving choice between more local schools, requiring less travel and a more limited financial investment
