A real scale simulator for high frequency LEMP
The real scale simulator is described which was designed by the Centre d'Etudes de Gramat (CEG) to study the coupling of fast rise time Lightning Electromagnetic pulse in a fighter aircraft. The system capability of generating the right electromagnetic environment was studied using a Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) computer program. First, data of inside stresses are shown. Then, a time domain and a frequency domain approach is exposed and compared
A theoretical analysis of the electromagnetic environment of the AS330 super Puma helicopter external and internal coupling
Numerical techniques such as Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) computer programs, which were first developed to analyze the external electromagnetic environment of an aircraft during a wave illumination, a lightning event, or any kind of current injection, are now very powerful investigative tools. The program called GORFF-VE, was extended to compute the inner electromagnetic fields that are generated by the penetration of the outer fields through large apertures made in the all metallic body. Then, the internal fields can drive the electrical response of a cable network. The coupling between the inside and the outside of the helicopter is implemented using Huygen's principle. Moreover, the spectacular increase of computer resources, as calculations speed and memory capacity, allows the modellization structures as complex as these of helicopters with accuracy. This numerical model was exploited, first, to analyze the electromagnetic environment of an in-flight helicopter for several injection configurations, and second, to design a coaxial return path to simulate the lightning aircraft interaction with a strong current injection. The E field and current mappings are the result of these calculations
Renormalized quark-antiquark Hamiltonian induced by a gluon mass ansatz in heavy-flavor QCD
In response to the growing need for theoretical tools that can be used in QCD
to describe and understand the dynamics of gluons in hadrons in the Minkowski
space-time, the renormalization group procedure for effective particles (RGPEP)
is shown in the simplest available context of heavy quarkonia to exhibit a
welcome degree of universality in the first approximation it yields once one
assumes that beyond perturbation theory gluons obtain effective mass. Namely,
in the second-order terms, the Coulomb potential with Breit-Fermi spin
couplings in the effective quark-antiquark component of a heavy quarkonium, is
corrected in one-flavor QCD by a spin-independent harmonic oscillator term that
does not depend on the assumed effective gluon mass or the choice of the RGPEP
generator. The new generator we use here is much simpler than the ones used
before and has the advantage of being suitable for studies of the effective
gluon dynamics at higher orders than the second and beyond the perturbative
expansion.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, journal versio
Antimicrobial activity of apple cider vinegar against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans; downregulating cytokine and microbial protein expression
The global escalation in antibiotic resistance cases means alternative antimicrobials are essential. The aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial capacity of apple cider vinegar (ACV) against E. coli, S. aureus and C. albicans. The minimum dilution of ACV required for growth inhibition varied for each microbial species. For C. albicans, a 1/2 ACV had the strongest effect, S. aureus, a 1/25 dilution ACV was required, whereas for E-coli cultures, a 1/50 ACV dilution was required (p < 0.05). Monocyte co-culture with microbes alongside ACV resulted in dose dependent downregulation of inflammatory cytokines (TNFα, IL-6). Results are expressed as percentage decreases in cytokine secretion comparing ACV treated with non-ACV treated monocytes cultured with E-coli (TNFα, 99.2%; IL-6, 98%), S. aureus (TNFα, 90%; IL-6, 83%) and C. albicans (TNFα, 83.3%; IL-6, 90.1%) respectively. Proteomic analyses of microbes demonstrated that ACV impaired cell integrity, organelles and protein expression. ACV treatment resulted in an absence in expression of DNA starvation protein, citrate synthase, isocitrate and malate dehydrogenases in E-coli; chaperone protein DNak and ftsz in S. aureus and pyruvate kinase, 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, fructose bisphosphate were among the enzymes absent in C.albican cultures. The results demonstrate ACV has multiple antimicrobial potential with clinical therapeutic implications
Destruction of chain-superconductivity in YBa_2Cu_4O_8 in a weak magnetic field
We report measurements of the temperature dependent components of the
magnetic penetration depth {\lambda}(T) in single crystal samples of
YBa_2Cu_4O_8 using a radio frequency tunnel diode oscillator technique. We
observe a downturn in {\lambda}(T) at low temperatures for currents flowing
along the b and c axes but not along the a axis. The downturn in {\lambda}_b is
suppressed by a small dc field of ~0.25 T. This and the zero field anisotropy
of {\lambda}(T) likely result from proximity induced superconducting on the CuO
chains, however we also discuss the possibility that a significant part of the
anisotropy might originate from the CuO2 planes.Comment: 5 page
Do grade II ankle sprains have chronic effects on the functional ability of ballet dancers performing single-leg flat-foot stance? An observational cross-sectional study
Ballet dancers have a higher risk than the general population of ankle sprains. Ankle proprioception is of the utmost importance for executing static and dynamic positions typical of ballet dancing. Ankle sprains can create changes in functional ability that may affect ballet performance. The aim of this cross-sectional observational study is to evaluate if non-professional ballet dancers that were previously injured with a grade II ankle sprain carry a long-term stability deficit in ballet specific positions (pass\ue9, arabesque) and in single-leg flat-foot stance, thereby affecting ballet performance. We enrolled 22 amateur female ballet dancers, 11 who previously had a grade II ankle injury and 11 who had no history of ankle injury. Stabilometric data (Center of Pressure Speed and Elipse Area) were assessed with the postural electronic multisensory baropodometer in normal, arabesque, and pass\ue8 positions with both open and closed eyes. Using an unpaired t-test, we compared healthy and pathological feet of the ankle injury group for a standard monopodalic position and two ballet-specific positions. No difference between pathological and healthy feet of non-professional ballet dancers who suffered grade II ankle injury was detected. According to the parameters considered in this study, grade II ankle sprains seem to have a favorable prognosis in the sample that we evaluated
Evidence for nodal superconductivity in LaFePO
In several iron-arsenide superconductors there is strong evidence for a fully
gapped superconducting state consistent with either a conventional s-wave
symmetry or an unusual state where there the gap changes sign between
the electron and hole Fermi surface sheets. Here we report measurements of the
penetration depth in very clean samples of the related
iron-phosphide superconductor, LaFePO, at temperatures down to 100 mK.
We find that varies almost perfectly linearly with strongly
suggesting the presence of gap nodes in this compound. Taken together with
other data, this suggests the gap function may not be generic to all pnictide
superconductors
