    Enhancement of the transverse non-reciprocal magneto-optical effect

    Full text link
    The origin and properties of the transverse non-reciprocal magneto-optical (nMO) effect were studied. The transverse nMO effect occurs in the case when light propagates perpendicularly to the magnetic field. It was demonstrated that light can experience the transverse nMO effect only when it propagates in the vicinity of a boundary between two materials and the optical field at least in one material is evanescent. The transverse nMO effect is pronounced in the cases of surface plasmons and waveguiding modes. The magnitude of the transverse nMO effect is comparable to or greater than the magnitude of the longitudinal nMO effect. In the case of surface plasmons propagating at a boundary between the transition metal and the dielectric it is possible to magnify the transverse nMO effect and the magneto-optical figure-of-merit may increase from a few percents to above 100%. The scalar dispersion relation, which describes the transverse MO effect in cases of waveguide modes and surface plasmons propagating in a multilayer MO slab, was derived

    Influence of heat treatment on magnetic properties of Cu-Sn-Co-based materials produced by powder metallurgy

    In the foundation of this work is the issue for production of non-magnetic materials with predetermined weak magnetic properties. Preferable solution is to dope these materials with ferromagnetic impurities in low concentrations. One of the efficient ways to obtain such materials is the use of powder metallurgy which gives an opportunity to produce complex powder compositions with variety of components in precisely specified concentrations

    CAROTID CHEMODECTOMA: DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS ACCORDING TO ULTRASOUND DATA

    Get PDF
    Carotid chemodectoma (“chemodectoma caroticum”, a carotid glomus tumor) is a benign slow-growing, vascularized tumor that is one of the most common paragangliomas of the head and neck. The ultrasound examination of 18 000 patients referred for various reasons revealed 2 cases of carotid chemodectoma verified by angiography. The paper gives the current ideas of the rate, etiology, pathomorphology, and clinical manifestations of chemodectoma, as well as its major ultrasound differential diagnostic criteria

    Issues in determining alpha_s from hadronic tau decay and electroproduction data

    We discuss some key issues associated with duality-violating and non-perturbative OPE contributions to the theoretical representations of light quark current-current two-point functions and relevant to precision determinations of alpha_s from hadronic tau decay and electroproduction cross-section data. We demonstrate that analyses with an explicit representation of duality-violating effects are required to bring theoretical errors in such extractions under control, motivating the accompanying paper in these proceedings, which presents the results of such an analysis.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures. Evidence of phi --> pi0 pi0 gamma and phi --> pi0 eta gamma decays in SND experiment at VEPP-2M

    Full text link
    Preliminary results on the study of e+e- --> phi(1020) --> pi0 pi0 gamma, eta pi0 gamma processes from SND experiment at VEPP-2M collider in Novosibirsk are presented. Branching ratios of rare radiative phi --> pi0 pi0 gamma and phi --> pi0 eta gamma decays are measured: B(phi --> pi0 pi0 gamma ) = (1.1 +- 0.2) * 10^-4 (invariant mass (pi0 pi0) < 800 MeV), B(phi --> eta pi0 gamma ) = (1.3 +- 0.5) * 10^-4.Comment: Talk at the HADRON97 conference, BNL, Aug 24-30 1997; LaTeX, 4 pages, 4 eps figure
