Phonon self-energy corrections to non-zero wavevector phonon modes in single-layer graphene
Phonon self-energy corrections have mostly been studied theoretically and
experimentally for phonon modes with zone-center (q = 0) wave-vectors. Here,
gate-modulated Raman scattering is used to study phonons of a single layer of
graphene (1LG) in the frequency range from 2350 to 2750 cm-1, which shows the
G* and the G'-band features originating from a double-resonant Raman process
with q \not= 0. The observed phonon renormalization effects are different from
what is observed for the zone-center q = 0 case. To explain our experimental
findings, we explored the phonon self-energy for the phonons with non-zero
wave-vectors (q \not= 0) in 1LG in which the frequencies and decay widths are
expected to behave oppositely to the behavior observed in the corresponding
zone-center q = 0 processes. Within this framework, we resolve the
identification of the phonon modes contributing to the G* Raman feature at 2450
cm-1 to include the iTO+LA combination modes with q \not= 0 and the 2iTO
overtone modes with q = 0, showing both to be associated with wave-vectors near
the high symmetry point K in the Brillouin zone
Group theory analysis of electrons and phonons in N-layer graphene systems
In this work we study the symmetry properties of electrons and phonons in
graphene systems as function of the number of layers. We derive the selection
rules for the electron-radiation and for the electron-phonon interactions at
all points in the Brillouin zone. By considering these selection rules, we
address the double resonance Raman scattering process. The monolayer and
bilayer graphene in the presence of an applied electric field are also

Observation of the Kohn anomaly near the K point of bilayer graphene
The dispersion of electrons and phonons near the K point of bilayer graphene
was investigated in a resonant Raman study using different laser excitation
energies in the near infrared and visible range. The electronic structure was
analyzed within the tight-binding approximation, and the
Slonczewski-Weiss-McClure (SWM) parameters were obtained from the analysis of
the dispersive behavior of the Raman features. A softening of the phonon
branches was observed near the K point, and results evidence the Kohn anomaly
and the importance of considering electron-phonon and electron-electron
interactions to correctly describe the phonon dispersion in graphene systems.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
The Structure of n-Point One-Loop Open Superstring Amplitudes
In this article we present the worldsheet integrand for one-loop amplitudes
in maximally supersymmetric superstring theory involving any number n of
massless open string states. The polarization dependence is organized into the
same BRST invariant kinematic combinations which also govern the leading string
correction to tree level amplitudes. The dimensions of the bases for both the
kinematics and the associated worldsheet integrals is found to be the unsigned
Stirling number S_3^{n-1} of first kind. We explain why the same combinatorial
structures govern on the one hand finite one-loop amplitudes of equal helicity
states in pure Yang Mills theory and on the other hand the color tensors at

Winter pasture and cover crops and their effects on soil and summer grain crops.
O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de usos da terra no inverno na quantidade de palha remanescente, nas características físicas do solo e na produção de grãos das culturas estivais de milho, feijão e soja, cultivadas em sucessão. O experimento foi conduzido na região Planalto Norte de Santa Catarina, de maio de 2006 a abril de 2010. Foram avaliados cinco usos da terra no inverno: consórcio de aveia?preta + azevém + ervilhaca, sem pastejo e sem adubação nitrogenada (consórcio cobertura); o mesmo consórcio, com pastejo e 100 kg ha?1 de nitrogênio (N) por ano em cobertura (pastagem com N); o mesmo consórcio, com pastejo e sem adubação nitrogenada (pastagem sem N); nabo forrageiro, sem pastejo e sem adubação nitrogenada (nabo forrageiro); e vegetação natural, sem pastejo e sem adubação nitrogenada (pousio). O consórcio cobertura proporciona maior quantidade de biomassa para o sistema e, consequentemente, maior acúmulo de carbono orgânico total e particulado na camada superficial do solo. No entanto, as formas de uso da terra no inverno não alteram significativamente as características do solo relacionadas à compactação, nem a produtividade de grãos das culturas de milho, feijão e soja, cultivadas em sucessão. Winter pasture and cover crops and their effects on soil and summer grain crops. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of winter land use on the amount of residual straw, the physical soil properties and grain yields of maize, common bean and soybean summer crops cultivated in succession. The experiment was carried out in the North Plateau of Santa Catarina state, Brazil, from May 2006 to April 2010. Five strategies of land use in winter were evaluated: intercropping with black oat + ryegrass + vetch, without grazing and nitrogen (N) fertilization (intercropping cover); the same intercropping, with grazing and 100 kg ha?1 of N per year topdressing (pasture with N); the same intercropping, with grazing and without nitrogen fertilization (pasture without N); oilseed radish, without grazing and nitrogen fertilization (oilseed radish); and natural vegetation, without grazing and nitrogen fertilization (fallow). Intercropping cover produces a greater amount of biomass in the system and, consequently, a greater accumulation of total and particulate organic carbon on the surface soil layer. However, land use in winter does not significantly affect soil physical properties related to soil compaction, nor the grain yield of maize, soybean and common bean cultivated in succession

Morfologia e Vascularização do Plexo Braquial no Rato Wistar
Introduction: The rat is probably the animal species most widely used in experimental studies on nerve repair. The aim of this work was to contribute to a better understanding of the morphology and blood supply of the rat brachial plexus. Material and Methods: Thirty adult rats were studied regarding brachial plexus morphology and blood supply. Intravascular injection and dissection under an operating microscope, as well as light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy techniques were used to define the microanatomy of the rat brachial plexus and its vessels. Results: The rat brachial plexus was slightly different from the human brachial plexus. The arterial and venous supply to the brachial plexus plexus was derived directly or indirectly from neighboring vessels. These vessels formed dense and interconnected plexuses in the epineurium, perineurium, and endoneurium. Several brachial plexus components were accompanied for a relatively long portion of their length by large and constant blood vessels that supplied their epineural plexus, making it possible to raise these nerves as flaps. Discussion: The blood supply to the rat brachial plexus is not very different from that reported in humans, making the rat a useful animal model for the experimental study of peripheral nerve pathophysiology and treatment. Conclusion: Our results support the homology between the rat and the human brachial plexus in terms of morphology and blood supply. This work suggests that several components of the rat brachial plexus can be used as nerve flaps, including predominantly motor, sensory or mixed nerve fibers. This information may facilitate new experimental procedures in this animal model
Simultaneous Supratentorial and Infratentorial Pilocytic Astrocytomas in an Adult Patient with Concurrent Neurofibromatosis Type 1 and HIV Infection
BACKGROUND:
Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) has been identified as a predisposing factor in the development of pilocytic astrocytoma (PA), a common benign central nervous system tumor. Although this is a common association, simultaneous development of multiple lesions is an infrequent finding, especially in nonoptic and hypothalamic locations.
CASE DESCRIPTION:
A 41-year-old female patient with NF1 and uncontrolled human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) type 1 infection presented with a first generalized seizure and associated headache and ataxia. Imaging studies revealed 2 large intra-axial PAs, nodular-cystic in the supratentorial compartment and solid in the infratentorial compartment. Both lesions were treated by gross total resection in 2 surgeries performed 1 week apart. Despite their different imaging patterns, the tumors were histologically and genetically identical.
CONCLUSIONS:
We present a unique case involving 2 histologically and genetically identical PAs occurring simultaneously in supratentorial and infratentorial locations. We suggest that an intrinsic predisposition to tumor development in patients with NF1 might have been enhanced by the HIV-related immunosuppression in this case. Strict oncologic surveillance is essential in patients with a tumor predisposition syndrome combined with immunosuppression.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
