\u3ci\u3eCallibaetis Pretiosus\u3c/i\u3e (Ephemeroptera: Baetidae) From Pennsylvania: New Distribution Record
Larvae of Callibaetis pretiosus were collected from a wet-weather pool in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. This record represents a significant northward increase in the known distribution of this species which had previously been reported only from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North CarolIna, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia
High-sensitivity force measurement using entangled probes
We show the possibility to improve the measurement sensitivity of a weak
force by using two meters in an entangled state. This latter can be achieved by

Spectral Effects of Strong Chi-2 Non-Linearity for Quantum Processing
Optical non-linearity can be used for parametric amplification
and producing down-converted entangled photon pairs that have broad
applications. It is known that weak non-linear media exhibit dispersion and
produce a frequency response. It is therefore of interest to know how spectral
effects of a strong crystal affect the performance. Here we model
the spectral effects of the dispersion of a strong crystal and
illustrate how this affects its ability to perform Bell measurements and
influence the performance of a quantum gates that employ such a Bell
measurement. We show that a Dyson series expansion of the unitary operator is
necessary in general, leading to unwanted spectral entanglement. We identify a
limiting situation employing periodic poling, in which a Taylor series
expansion is a good approximation and this entanglement can be removed.Comment: Will be submitted to PR
Experimental realization of a quantum game on a one-way quantum computer
We report the first demonstration of a quantum game on an all-optical one-way
quantum computer. Following a recent theoretical proposal we implement a
quantum version of Prisoner's Dilemma, where the quantum circuit is realized by
a 4-qubit box-cluster configuration and the player's local strategies by
measurements performed on the physical qubits of the cluster. This
demonstration underlines the strength and versatility of the one-way model and
we expect that this will trigger further interest in designing quantum
protocols and algorithms to be tested in state-of-the-art cluster resources.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure
Single photon quantum non-demolition in the presence of inhomogeneous broadening
Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) has been often proposed for
generating nonlinear optical effects at the single photon level; in particular,
as a means to effect a quantum non-demolition measurement of a single photon
field. Previous treatments have usually considered homogeneously broadened
samples, but realisations in any medium will have to contend with inhomogeneous
broadening. Here we reappraise an earlier scheme [Munro \textit{et al.} Phys.
Rev. A \textbf{71}, 033819 (2005)] with respect to inhomogeneities and show an
alternative mode of operation that is preferred in an inhomogeneous
environment. We further show the implications of these results on a potential
implementation in diamond containing nitrogen-vacancy colour centres. Our
modelling shows that single mode waveguide structures of length in single-crystal diamond containing a dilute ensemble of NV
of only 200 centres are sufficient for quantum non-demolition measurements

High speed quantum gates with cavity quantum electrodynamics
Cavity quantum electrodynamic schemes for quantum gates are amongst the
earliest quantum computing proposals. Despite continued progress, and the
dramatic recent demonstration of photon blockade, there are still issues with
optimal coupling and gate operation involving high-quality cavities. Here we
show dynamic control techniques that allow scalable cavity-QED based quantum
gates, that use the full bandwidth of the cavities. When applied to quantum
gates, these techniques allow an order of magnitude increase in operating
speed, and two orders of magnitude reduction in cavity Q, over passive
cavity-QED architectures. Our methods exploit Stark shift based Q-switching,
and are ideally suited to solid-state integrated optical approaches to quantum

Factors associated with the decision to investigate child protective services referrals: a systematic review
Background: Limited resources for child protection create challenging decision situations for child protective services (CPS) workers at the point of intake. A body of research has examined the factors associated with worker decisions and processes using a variety of methodological approaches to gain knowledge on decision-making. However, few attempts have been made to systematically review this literature.
Objective: As part of a larger project on decision-making at intake, this systematic review addressed the question of the factors associated with worker decisions to investigate alleged maltreatment referrals.
Methods: Quantitative studies that examined factors associated with screening decisions in CPS practice settings were included in the review. Database and other search methods were used to identify research published in English over a 35-year period (1980-2015).
Findings: Of 1,147 identified sources, 18 studies were selected for full data extraction. The studies were conducted in the U.S., Canada, and Sweden and varied in methodological quality. Most studies examined case factors with few studies examining other domains.
Conclusions: To inform CPS policy and practice, additional research is needed to examine the relationships between decision-making factors and case outcomes. Greater attention needs to be given to the organizational and external factors that influence decision-making
The disappearance of the "revolving door" patient in Scottish general practice: successful policies
<b>Background</b> We describe the health of "revolving door" patients in general practice in Scotland, estimate changes in their number over the timescale of the study, and explore reasons for changes, particularly related to NHS and government policy.<p></p>
<b>Methods</b> A mixed methods predominantly qualitative study, using a grounded theory approach, set in Scottish general practice. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with professional key informants, 6 Practitioner Services staff who administer the GP registration system and 6 GPs with managerial or clinical experience of working with "revolving door" patients. Descriptive statistical analysis and qualitative analysis of patient removal episodes linked with routine hospital admissions, outpatient appointments, drug misuse treatment episodes and deaths were carried out with cohorts of "revolving door" patients identified from 1999 to 2005 in Scotland.<p></p>
<b>Results</b> A "revolving door" patient is removed 4 or more times from GP lists in 7 years. Patients had complex health issues including substance misuse, psychiatric and physical health problems and were at high risk of dying. There was a dramatic reduction in the number of "revolving door" patients during the course of the study.<p></p>
<b>Conclusions</b> "Revolving door" patients in general practice had significant health problems. Their numbers have reduced dramatically since 2004 and this probably resulted from improved drug treatment services, pressure from professional bodies to reduce patient removals and the positive ethical regulatory and financial climate of the 2004 GMS GP contract. This is a positive development for the NHS
