XMM-Newton observations of SNR 1987A. II. The still increasing X-ray light curve and the properties of Fe K lines
Aims. We report on the recent observations of the supernova remnant SNR 1987A
in the Large Magellanic Cloud with XMM-Newton. Carefully monitoring the
evolution of the X-ray light curve allows to probe the complex circumstellar
medium structure observed around the supernova progenitor star.
Methods. We analyse all XMM-Newton observations of SNR 1987A from January
2007 to December 2011, using data from the EPIC-pn camera. Spectra from all
epochs are extracted and analysed in a homogeneous way. Using a multi-shock
model to fit the spectra across the 0.2-10 keV band we measure soft and hard
X-ray fluxes with high accuracy. In the hard X-ray band we examine the presence
and properties of Fe K ines. Our findings are interpreted in the framework of a
hydrodynamics-based model.
Results. The soft X-ray flux of SNR 1987A continuously increased in the
recent years. Although the light curve shows a mild flattening, there is no
sudden break as reported in an earlier work, a picture echoed by a revision of
the Chandra light curve. We therefore conclude that material in the equatorial
ring and out-of-plane HII regions are still being swept-up. We estimate the
thickness of the equatorial ring to be at least 4.5x10^16 cm (0.0146 pc). This
lower limit will increase as long as the soft X-ray flux has not reached a
turn-over. We detect a broad Fe K line in all spectra from 2007 to 2011. The
widths and centroid energies of the lines indicate the presence of a collection
of iron ionisation stages. Thermal emission from the hydrodynamic model does
not reproduce the low-energy part of the line (6.4-6.5 keV), suggesting that
fluorescence from neutral and/or low ionisation Fe might be present.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables. Accepted for publication in Astronomy

The course of cancer related fatigue up to ten years in early breast cancer patients. What impact in clinical practice?
Little is known about the cancer related fatigue (CRF) along cancer course and risk factors that could predict CRF development and persistence in breast cancer (BC) survivors. This prospective study detected incidence, timing of onset, duration of CRF, impact on QoL and psychological distress. Seventy-eight early BC patients, undergoing chemotherapy (CT) followed or not by hormonal therapy were assessed for QoL and psychological distress by EORTC QLQC30 and HADs questionnaires. Fatigue was investigated with mix methods, structured interview and psychometric measures. A qualitative analysis was added to assess the behavioral pattern of CRF. Low fatigue levels were identified after surgery (9%), increasing during (49%) and at the end of CT (47%), maintaining after 1 year (31%) and declining up to ten years of follow-up. Prevalence of CRF was higher at the end of CT and lower at follow-up. At the end and after 1 and 2 years from CT, persistence of CRF was associated to anxiety in 20%, 11% and 5% and to depression in 15%, 10% and 5% respectively. A relationship between CRF and psychological distress was observed; patients presenting depression and anxiety before CT were at higher risk for fatigue onset at a later period. A relationship between fatigue and QoL was noted at the end of CT. Our study shows the fatigue timely trend in early BC patients from surgery, CT and follow-up. Identification of biological, psychological, social predictor factors related to fatigue could be helpful for early interventions in patients at higher risk of developing fatigue
Interestingness of traces in declarative process mining: The janus LTLPf Approach
Declarative process mining is the set of techniques aimed at extracting behavioural constraints from event logs. These constraints are inherently of a reactive nature, in that their activation restricts the occurrence of other activities. In this way, they are prone to the principle of ex falso quod libet: they can be satisfied even when not activated. As a consequence, constraints can be mined that are hardly interesting to users or even potentially misleading. In this paper, we build on the observation that users typically read and write temporal constraints as if-statements with an explicit indication of the activation condition. Our approach is called Janus, because it permits the specification and verification of reactive constraints that, upon activation, look forward into the future and backwards into the past of a trace. Reactive constraints are expressed using Linear-time Temporal Logic with Past on Finite Traces (LTLp f). To mine them out of event logs, we devise a time bi-directional valuation technique based on triplets of automata operating in an on-line fashion. Our solution proves efficient, being at most quadratic w.r.t. trace length, and effective in recognising interestingness of discovered constraints
Enhancing declarative process models with DMN decision logic
Modeling dynamic, human-centric, non-standardized and knowledge-intensive business processes with imperative process modeling approaches is very challenging. Declarative process modeling approaches are more appropriate for these processes, as they offer the run-time flexibility typically required in these cases. However, by means of a realistic healthcare process that falls in the aforementioned category, we demonstrate in this paper that current declarative approaches do not incorporate all the details needed. More specifically, they lack a way to model decision logic, which is important when attempting to fully capture these processes. We propose a new declarative language, Declare-R-DMN, which combines the declarative process modeling language Declare-R with the newly adopted OMG standard Decision Model and Notation. Aside from supporting the functionality of both languages, Declare-R-DMN also creates bridges between them. We will show that using this language results in process models that encapsulate much more knowledge, while still offering the same flexibility
