Hypercharge and baryon minus lepton number in E6

We study assignments of the hypercharge and baryon minus lepton number for particles in the E6E_6 grand unification model. It is shown that there are three assignments of hypercharge and three assignments of baryon minus lepton number which are consistent with the Standard Model. Their explicit expressions and detailed properties are given. In particular, we show that the U(1)B−LU(1)_{B-L} symmetry in E6E_6 cannot be orthogonal to the SU(3)RSU(3)_R symmetry. Based on these investigations, we propose an alternative SU(5) grand unification model.Comment: 16 pages, JHEP3.cls, To appear in JHE

The Medicare and Medicaid Intersection: Caring for Arizona\u27s Seniors

    Get PDF
This site visit to Phoenix examined the interplay between Medicare and Medicaid and how payment streams and regulatory requirements affect the delivery of health and long-term care services. The visit explored trends related to Medicare+Choice plan participation, physician acceptance of Medicare patients, and care management for individuals with chronic illnesses, such as Alzheimer’s disease. It also considered Arizona’s capitated Medicaid long-term care program, which recently implemented competitive bidding among plans in Maricopa County

Site Visit to Arizona — Managed Medicaid: Arizona\u27s AHCCCS Experience

    Get PDF
This site visit featured a review of a unique Medicaid managed care system, the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), which has operated as a research and demonstration waiver since its inception in 1982. Site visitors heard from speakers who provided historical and background information, a discussion of competitive bidding, contracting and performance management, and insights into the delivery of behavioral health under the mandatory AHCCCS program. The group also heard discussions about services to the uninsured and Arizona\u27s safety net providers. Other topics covered during the visit included the state\u27s KidsCare program under the State Child Health Insurance Program; AHCCCS quality, outreach, enrollment, and data systems; and the provision of pharmacy services to enrollees. Visits to providers, health plans, and state offices were included during the Arizona stay

    Scalar Bilepton Dark Matter

In this work we show that 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos has a natural weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) dark mater candidate. It is a complex scalar with mass of order of some hundreds of GeV which carries two units of lepton number, a scalar bilepton. This makes it a very peculiar WIMP, very distinct from Supersymmetric or Extra-dimension candidates. Besides, although we have to make some reasonable assumptions concerning the several parameters in the model, no fine tunning is required in order to get the correct dark matter abundance. We also analyze the prospects for WIMP direct detection by considering recent and projected sensitivities for WIMP-nucleon elastic cross section from CDMS and XENON Collaborations.Comment: 21 pages, 8 figures, uses iopart.cls, same text as published version with a small different arrangement of figure

Flavour structure and proton decay in 6D orbifold GUTs

We study proton decay in a supersymmetric {\sf SO(10)} gauge theory in six dimensions compactified on an orbifold. The dimension-5 proton decay operators are forbidden by R-symmetry, whereas the dimension-6 operators are enhanced due to the presence of KK towers. Three sequential quark-lepton families are localised at the three orbifold fixed points, where {\sf SO(10)} is broken to its three GUT subgroups. The physical quarks and leptons are mixtures of these brane states and additional bulk zero modes. This leads to a characteristic pattern of branching ratios in proton decay, in particular the suppression of the p\to \m^+K^0 mode.Comment: 20 pages, 1 figur

Clone flow analysis for a theory inspired Neutrino Experiment planning

The presence of several clone solutions in the simultaneous measurement of (θ13,δ\theta_{13},\delta) has been widely discussed in literature. In this letter we write the analytical formulae of the clones location in the (θ13,δ\theta_{13},\delta) plane as a function of the physical input pair (θˉ13,δˉ\bar\theta_{13},\bar\delta). We show how the clones move with changing θˉ13\bar\theta_{13}. The "clone flow" can be significantly different if computed (naively) from the oscillation probabilities or (exactly) from the probabilities integrated over the neutrino flux and cross-section. Using our complete computation we compare the clone flow of a set of possible future neutrino experiments: the CERN SuperBeam, BetaBeam and Neutrino Factory proposals. We show that the combination of these specific BetaBeam and SuperBeam does not help in solving the degeneracies. On the contrary, the combination of one of them with the Neutrino Factory Golden and Silver channel can be used, from a theoretical point of view, to solve completely the eightfold degeneracy.Comment: 23 pages, using epsfi

Signature of sterile species in atmospheric neutrino data at neutrino telescopes

The MiniBooNE results have still not been able to comprehensively rule out the oscillation interpretation of the LSND experiment. So far the so-called short baseline experiments with energy in the MeV range and baseline of few meters have been probing the existence of sterile neutrinos. We show how signatures of these extra sterile states could be obtained in TeV energy range atmospheric neutrinos travelling distances of thousands of kilometers. Atmospheric neutrinos in the TeV range would be detected by the upcoming neutrino telescopes. Of course vacuum oscillations of these neutrinos would be very small. However, we show that resonant matter effects inside the Earth could enhance these very tiny oscillations into near-maximal transitions, which should be hard to miss. We show that imprint of sterile neutrinos could be unambiguously obtained in this high energy atmospheric neutrino event sample. Not only would neutrino telescopes tell the presence of sterile neutrinos, it should also be possible for them to distinguish between the different possible mass and mixing scenarios with additional sterile states.Comment: 26 pages, 11 figures, Version to appear in JHE

Neutrino signals from electroweak bremsstrahlung in solar WIMP annihilation

Bremsstrahlung of WW and ZZ gauge bosons, or photons, can be an important dark matter annihilation channel. In many popular models in which the annihilation to a pair of light fermions is helicity suppressed, these bremsstrahlung processes can lift the suppression and thus become the dominant annihilation channels. The resulting dark matter annihilation products contain a large, energetic, neutrino component. We consider solar WIMP annihilation in the case where electroweak bremsstrahlung dominates, and calculate the resulting neutrino spectra. The flux consists of primary neutrinos produced in processes such as χχ→νˉνZ\chi\chi\rightarrow \bar{\nu}\nu Z and χχ→νˉℓW\chi\chi\rightarrow \bar{\nu}\ell W, and secondary neutrinos produced via the decays of gauge bosons and charged leptons. After dealing with the neutrino propagation and flavour evolution in the Sun, we consider the prospects for detection in neutrino experiments on Earth. By comparing our signal with that for annihilation to W+W−W^+W^-, we show that the detection prospects for the bremsstrahlung annihilation channel are favourable.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures. Fake CPT Violation in Disappearance Neutrino Oscillations

    Get PDF
We make an analysis of the fake CPT-violating asymmetries between the survival probabilities of neutrinos and antineutrinos, induced by the terrestrial matter effects, in three different scenarios of long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments with L=730 km, L=2100 km and L=3200 km. In particular, the dependence of those asymmetries on the Dirac-type CP-violating phase of the lepton flavor mixing matrix is examined.Comment: RevTex 8 pages (including 3 PS figures). To be publishe
