Some Orthogonal Polynomials Arising from Coherent States

We explore in this paper some orthogonal polynomials which are naturally associated to certain families of coherent states, often referred to as nonlinear coherent states in the quantum optics literature. Some examples turn out to be known orthogonal polynomials but in many cases we encounter a general class of new orthogonal polynomials for which we establish several qualitative results.Comment: 21 page

The effect of two applications of fipronil on arthropod populations were studied under experimental plot conditions using 3-month old Cuphea ignea. Eighty-one families belonging to 12 orders of Arthropoda were trapped before spraying. The four dominant orders were Hymenoptera (28.6%), Homoptera (19.1 %), Collembola (17.8 %) and Diptera (16.2 %). Other orders were present in small numbers i. e. Hemiptera, Coleoptera, Orthoptera, Thysanoptera, Araneida, Acarina, Lepidoptera and Isopoda. The abundance of arthropods was reduced to 44 and 47 families after the first and second sprayings, respectively. The percentage population of Collembola increased significantly after the first and second sprayings as compared to the number before treatment. The percentage population ofHomoptera (Aleyrodidae) increased after the first spray but declined after the second spray. The family Isotomidae (Collembola) increased significantly after the first and second sprays. Some orders such as Isopoda and Lepidoptera disappeared after the plot was treated with fipronil

Electron focusing, mode spectroscopy and mass enhancement in small GaAs/AlGaAs rings

A new electron focusing effect has been discovered in small single and coupled GaAs/AlGaAs rings. The focusing in the single ring is attributed solely to internal orbits. The focusing effect allows the ring to be used as a small mass spectrometer. The focusing causes peaks in the magnetoresistance at low fields, and the peak positions were used to study the dispersion relation of the one-dimensional magnetoelectric subbands. The electron effective mass increases with the applied magnetic field by a factor of 5050, at a magnetic field of 0.5T0.5T. This is the first time this increase has been measured directly. General agreement obtains between the experiment and the subband calculations for straight channels.Comment: 13 pages figures are available by reques

Background: During they work, mobile population must separate from their spouse in a long time, makes them tending to have extramarital sexual relationship. Objective: To describe the high risk sexual behavior and prevention of STD and HIV among mobile population. Methode: Respondents were 825 in size selected purposively in northern coast of Java and North Sumatra, then interviewed using structure questionnaire, while subsample were questioned in-depthly. They were truck and bus drivers, assistant of truck and bus drivers, fishermen or sailormen. Result: Majority of respondents had middle education level (70%) and were married (75%), while their average monthly income was one million rupiah. Nearly half confessed of having extramarital sexual relationship, although only below 20% used condom recently. This unsafe sex was done with casual partner such as sex worker, girl friends or just friends. Their access to get condom or adequate STD treatment were limited. Easy accessed health facility unit was very few. Information about STD and HIV&AIDS majority was from television. Conclusion: This low knowledge level on STD and HIV&AIDS including its treatment might increase the transmission of these diseases from mobile to general population. Providing health service unit close to shelter or terminal of bus and truck, or sea-port, would improve access to information of STD and HIV&AIDS as well as its treatment, besides disseminating it through popular media such as television

Factors associated with emergency department green zone utilization in hospital

Introduction: In hospital, emergency departments are highly utilized by patients. Overcrowding, congestion and long waiting time were among the issues highlighted resulting from it. In Selangor, there has been a steady increase in utilization of emergency department of government hospitals over the past five (5) years. Utilization of green zone was the highest in these hospitals. Being a department that provides a comprehensive emergency service and provides easy access for the community, issues of appropriateness utilization arise. This study aims to determine the level of appropriateness of green zone utilization by patients attending Emergency Department in Serdang Hospital and factors influencing its utilization. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Emergency Department of Serdang Hospital. Sample sizes of green zone adult patients were obtained by systematic random sampling. Emergency Medicine and Trauma Services Policy Malaysia 2012 were used to classify patients to appropriate and inappropriate utilization of green zone. Pre-tested self-administered questionnaire were used to interview patients. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test and logistic regression used to analyse the data collected. Data analysis conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics version 22 and p value significant at <0.05. Result: There were 793 (90.7%) patients in this study. It was found that level of appropriateness utilization in green zone emergency department was 83.6% appropriate and 16.4% was inappropriate. Median age of patients were 29 years old (IQR ± 25th, 75th; 23, 40). Majority were Malays (74%). The results of chi-square test indicated that there were significant association between marital status (p=0.032), patients attending emergency department because treatment cost is cheap (p=0.025), emergency department operates 24 hours (p=0.045) and time of patient presentation to emergency department (p=0.001). From the study, the multivariate results revealed that the odds of married patients (AOR=1.481, 95% CI: 1.008, 2.174) to utilize the emergency department were higher than not married patients, the odds of patients utilize emergency department not because of the cheap treatment (AOR=1.614, 95% CI: 1.073, 2.469) was almost two times more and lastly the odds of utilization after office hours were two times more than during office hours (AOR=2.117, 95% CI: 1.388, 3.227). Conclusion: The study revealed majority of patients utilized green zone appropriately. Married patient, patient attend emergency department not because treatment cost is cheap and patient attending after office hour were significantly associated with appropriateness utilization of emergency department. Further study needed to determine the cause and effect relationship

Quasiperiodic functions theory and the superlattice potentials for a two-dimensional electron gas

We consider Novikov problem of the classification of level curves of quasiperiodic functions on the plane and its connection with the conductivity of two-dimensional electron gas in the presence of both orthogonal magnetic field and the superlattice potentials of special type. We show that the modulation techniques used in the recent papers on the 2D heterostructures permit to obtain the general quasiperiodic potentials for 2D electron gas and consider the asymptotic limit of conductivity when τ\tau \to \infty. Using the theory of quasiperiodic functions we introduce here the topological characteristics of such potentials observable in the conductivity. The corresponding characteristics are the direct analog of the "topological numbers" introduced previously in the conductivity of normal metals.Comment: Revtex, 16 pages, 12 figure

Uncoupled excitons in semiconductor microcavities detected in resonant Raman scattering

    Get PDF
We present an outgoing resonant Raman-scattering study of a GaAs/AlGaAs based microcavity embedded in a p-i-n junction. The p-i-n junction allows the vertical electric field to be varied, permitting control of exciton-photon detuning and quenching of photoluminescence which otherwise obscures the inelastic light scattering signals. Peaks corresponding to the upper and lower polariton branches are observed in the resonant Raman cross sections, along with a third peak at the energy of uncoupled excitons. This third peak, attributed to disorder activated Raman scattering, provides clear evidence for the existence of uncoupled exciton reservoir states in microcavities in the strong-coupling regime
