Context. Only a few open clusters are as important for the study of stellar and substellar objects, and their formation and evolution, as the young σ Orionis cluster. However, a complete spectroscopic characterisation of its whole stellar population is still missing. Aims. We filled most of that gap with a large spectroscopic and astrometric survey of targets towards σ Orionis. Eventually, it will be one of the open clusters with the lowest proportion of interlopers and the largest proportion of confirmed cluster members with known uncontrovertible youth features. Methods. We acquired 317 low-resolution optical spectra with the Intermediate Dispersion Spectrograph (IDS) at the 2.5 m Isaac Newton Telescope (INT) and the Optical System for Imaging and low Resolution Integrated Spectroscopy (OSIRIS) at the 10.4 m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). We measured equivalent widths of Li i, Hα, and other key lines from these spectra, and determined spectral types. We complemented this information with Gaia DR2 astrometric data and other features of youth (mid-infrared excess, X-ray emission) compiled with Virtual Observatory tools and from the literature. Results. Of the 168 observed targets, we determined for the first time spectral types of 39 stars and equivalent widths of Li i and Hα of 34 and 12 stars, respectively. We identified 11 close (ρ </≈ 3 arcsec) binaries resolved by Gaia, of which three are new, 14 strong accretors, of which four are new and another four have Hα emission shifted by over 120 km s^(−1) , two juvenile star candidates in the sparse population of the Ori OB1b association, and one spectroscopic binary candidate. Remarkably, we found 51 non-clustermembers, 35 of which were previously considered as σ Orionis members and taken into account in high-impact works on, for example, disc frequency and initial mass function

Background: Chagas disease reactivation is an AIDS defined illness that usually affects Central Nervous System. Gold-Standard diagnosis for T.cruzi reactivation is based on microscopical observation methods. Methods & Materials: Seven patients with HIV/AIDS diagnosis, T.cruzi serological findings, neurological disorders, and suspected of Chagas disease reactivation were included between 2015?2017 from two health centers of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Real-time PCRs (qPCR) against T.cruzi satellite DNA were carried out from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and peripheral blood samples (BS) for parasite load quantification. Molecular parasite characterization was based on amplification of spliced leader intergenic region, 24 srDNA, and A10 polymorphic sequences. Results: Patients were aged from 41 to 69 years old, 43% were women, CD4+ T cell counts were between 7 and 53 cell/mm3. All of them received tripanocidal treatment (TrypT).Five CSFs were withdrawn before TrypT starting. Two had microscopical detection of trypomastigote forms (MDTryp) and quantification over 500 p.e/mL by qPCR. The other 3 CSF samples were non-detectable by both methods. The remaining two patients CSF were obtained after starting TrypT with MDTryp negative findings but qPCR positive results with parasite burden below 13 p.e/mL.Among the 3 patients with negative CSF findings, 2 had positive MDTryp on BS with 119 and 3512 p.e/mL. The third was negative by MDTryp and had 2 p.e/mL before TrypT.All patients had qPCR positive findings on BS (2 -1426 p.e/mL) and decreased their parasitic loads during TrypT.All characterized parasites from BS and CSF samples belonged to DTU (Discrete Typing Unit) II, V or VI, frequently found in Southern Cone region.Out of this small series, 4 patients died: 2 because of brain ?Chagoma?, 1 due to status epilepticus and 1 due to acute abdomen. Two of the 3 survivors were those with negative CSF findings for both methods. Conclusion: Chagas disease reactivation occurred on deep inmunosupressed HIV people. Its diagnosis by MDTryp and qPCR is complementary. qPCR detected T.cruzi DNA on negative MDTryp findings even during treatment. TrypT always reduces T.cruzi DNA loads. qPCR might be an useful therapeutical marker.Fil: Fernandez, Marisa. Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Feasibility; Malnutrition; Morphofunctional assessmentFactibilitat; Desnutrició; Avaluació morfofuncionalFactibilidad; Desnutrición; Avaluació morfofuncionalDisease-related malnutrition (DRM) affects approximately a third of hospitalized patients and is associated with an increased risk of morbimortality. However, DRM is often underdiagnosed and undertreated. Our aim is to evaluate the prognostic value of morphofunctional tools and tests for nutritional assessment in clinical practice. A systematic literature review was conducted to identify studies relating to the morphofunctional assessment of nutritional status and mortality or complications. Evidence was evaluated using the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations) method. Twelve GRADE recommendations were made and divided into seven topics: food intake and nutrient assimilation, anthropometry, biochemical analysis, hand grip strength, phase angle, muscle imaging, and functional status and quality of life. From these recommendations, 37 statements were developed and scored in a two-survey Delphi method by 183 experts. A consensus was reached on accepting 26/37 statements. Surveys had high internal consistency and high inter-rater reliability. In conclusion, evidence-based recommendations were made on the prognostic value of morphofunctional assessment tools and tests to assess malnutrition, most of which were found to be feasible in routine clinical practice, according to expert opinions. This study was supported by Persan Farma

Evaluation of a Novel Αb Εxterno MicroShunt for the Treatment of Glaucoma

    Get PDF
The surgical management of glaucoma has been revolutionized by the introduction of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). The various MIGS options aim to meaningfully lower intraocular pressure with a better safety profile than traditional glaucoma surgery. The key clinical attributes and the emerging potential of an ab externo MicroShunt (PreserFlo™) are reviewed in the context of published evidence and clinical experience. This novel MicroShunt consists of an 8.5-mm-long tube that is implanted in the eye via an ab externo approach enabling aqueous humor drainage into the sub-Tenon's space through the formation of a bleb, similar in appearance to that created by trabeculectomy. The efficacy and safety of this procedure, the concomitant use of antimetabolites, the impact of tube positioning, and its future value in clinical practice are critically reviewed. Recent evidence has demonstrated the MicroShunt to be less effective than traditional filtration surgery, but with a significant improvement in safety. Cumulative data suggest that the new implant provides tangible clinical benefits to selected patients with glaucoma in need of further intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering. Future research should delineate the precise role of this and other MIGS options in the rapidly evolving glaucoma treatment algorithm.Unidad Docente de Inmunología, Oftalmología y ORLDepto. de Inmunología, Oftalmología y ORLFac. de Óptica y OptometríaFac. de MedicinaTRUEpu

    Get PDF
A novel methodology for damage detection and location in structures is proposed. The methodology is based on strain measurements and consists in the development of strain field pattern recognition techniques. The aforementioned are based on PCA (principal component analysis) and damage indices (T 2 and Q). We propose the use of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) as strain sensor

A High Pressure Operando Spectroscopy Examination of Bimetal Interactions in ‘Metal Efficient’ Palladium/In2O3/Al2O3 Catalysts for CO2 Hydrogenation

    Get PDF
CO2 hydrogenation to methanol has the potential to serve as a sustainable route to a wide variety of hydrocarbons, fuels and plastics in the quest for net zero. Synergistic Pd/In2O3 (Palldium on Indium Oxide) catalysts show high CO2 conversion and methanol selectivity, enhancing methanol yield. The identity of the optimal active site for this reaction is unclear, either as a Pd−In alloy, proximate metals, or distinct sites. In this work, we demonstrate that metal-efficient Pd/In2O3 species dispersed on Al2O3 can match the performance of pure Pd/In2O3 systems. Further, we follow the evolution of both Pd and In sites, and surface species, under operando reaction conditions using X-ray Absorption Spectroscpy (XAS) and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. In doing so, we can determine both the nature of the active sites and the influence on the catalytic mechanism
