    Spin excitations in a 4f-3d heterodimer on MgO

    We report on the magnetic properties of HoCo dimers as a model system for the smallest intermetallic transition metal-lanthanide compound. The dimers are adsorbed on ultrathin MgO(100) films grown on Ag(100). New for 4f4f elements, we detect inelastic excitations with scanning tunneling microscopy and prove by their behaviour in applied magnetic field that they are spin-excitations. In combination with density functional theory and spin Hamiltonian analysis we determine the magnetic level distribution, as well as sign and magnitude of the exchange interaction between the two atoms. In contrast to typical 4f3d4f-3d bulk compounds, we find ferromagnetic coupling in the dimer

    Enhancing procurement quality performance in a developing country: the roles of procurement audit and top management commitment

    Despite its strategic importance, procurement quality performance remains not only a difficult-to-improve public procurement outcome in developing countries but also knowledge of its determinants is underdeveloped. This research uses a contingent-agency perspective to propose procurement audit as a procurement quality performance-enhancer, especially when there is a strong top management commitment to strategic procurement issues. Survey data from 223 public sector organizations in Ghana support these propositions. Additional results, however, reveal that internal and external aspects of procurement audit relate differently to self-reported procurement quality performance under differing conditions of top management commitment. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are presented

    The proliferation of motor tricycle usage in precarious transportation contexts and the performance of micro and small manufacturers

    Micro and small businesses (MSBs) in developing countries increasingly use motor tricycles to navigate transportation-induced supply chain disruptions. However, there is a lack of empirical understanding of whether and when these resources benefit such firms. This study draws on the contingent resource-based theory to examine how motor tricycle deployment relates to the performance of MSBs under varying conditions of supply chain dynamism in a developing country. The study tests its hypotheses on primary data from 267 micro and small manufacturers in Ghana using moderated regression analysis. The results indicate that motor tricycle deployment positively relates to MSB performance in Ghana (β = 0.024, SE = 0.007, p = 0.001). The results further show that supply chain dynamism positively moderates the relationship between motor tricycle deployment and MSB performance (β = 0.008, SE = 0.004, p = 0.035). In contributing to the limited literature on the firm-level performance implications of the increasing use of motor tricycles among micro and small businesses in developing countries, this study's results underscore the importance of adopting a contingency-based approach to understand the complexities inherent in the relationship between motor tricycle deployment and firm performance in these settings

    3D scaling laws and projection effects in The300-NIKA2 Sunyaev-Zeldovich Large Program Twin Samples

    The abundance of galaxy clusters with mass and redshift is a wellknown cosmological probe. The cluster mass is a key parameter for studies that aim to constrain cosmological parameters using galaxy clusters, making it critical to understand and properly account for the errors in its estimates. Subsequently, it becomes important to correctly calibrate scaling relations between observables like the integrated Compton parameter and the mass of the cluster. The NIKA2 Sunyaev-Zeldovich Large program (LPSZ) enables one to map the intracluster medium profiles in the mm–wavelength band with great details (resolution of 11 & 17″ at 1.2 & 2 mm, respectively) and hence, to estimate the cluster hydrostatic mass more precisely than previous SZ observations. However, there are certain systematic effects which can only be accounted for with the use of simulations. For this purpose, we employ The Three Hundred simulations which have been modelled with a range of physics modules to simulate galaxy clusters. The so-called twin samples are constructed by picking synthetic clusters of galaxies with properties close to the observational targets of the LPSZ. In particular, we use the Compton parameter maps and projected total mass maps of these twin samples along 29 different lines of sight. We investigate the scatter that projection induces on the total masses. Eventually, we consider the statistical values along different lines of sight to construct a kind of 3D scaling law between the integrated Compton parameter, total mass, and overdensity of the galaxy clusters to determine the overdensity that is least impacted by the projection effect

    The CroHort Study: Cardiovascular Behavioral Risk Factors in Adults, School Children and Adolescents, Hospitalized Coronary Heart Disease Patients, and Cardio Rehabilitation Groups in Croatia

    Based on repeated measurement of health behaviors the CroHort Study showed that health behavior explains a great deal more of class inequalities in mortality than observed in previous studies. These include decreasing prevalence of smoking and increase in obesity, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. The lowest prevalence of health risks was recorded among children and adolescents, followed by general adult population from the CroHort Study. Hospitalized coronary heart disease patients had higher risks prevalence than general population, while the highest prevalence of risks was recorded among patients in cardiac rehabilitation program. The higher levels of stress were associated to lower financial conditions, poorer social functioning and poorer mental health for bothmen and women. Higher levels of stress were also associated with heart problems, higher alcohol consumption in men while in women stress was associated to poorer general health, higher age and lower levels of education

    IAS/CEA Evolution of Dust in Nearby Galaxies (ICED): the spatially-resolved dust properties of NGC4254

    We present the first preliminary results of the project \textit{ICED}, focusing on the face-on galaxy NGC4254. We use the millimetre maps observed with NIKA2 at IRAM-30m, as part of the IMEGIN Guaranteed Time Large Program, and of a wide collection of ancillary data (multi-wavelength photometry and gas phase spectral lines) that are publicly available. We derive the global and local properties of interstellar dust grains through infrared-to-radio spectral energy distribution fitting, using the hierarchical Bayesian code HerBIE, which includes the grain properties of the state-of-the-art dust model, THEMIS. Our method allows us to get the following dust parameters: dust mass, average interstellar radiation field, and fraction of small grains. Also, it is effective in retrieving the intrinsic correlations between dust parameters and interstellar medium properties. We find an evident anti-correlation between the interstellar radiation field and the fraction of small grains in the centre of NGC4254, meaning that, at strong radiation field intensities, very small amorphous carbon grains are efficiently destroyed by the ultra-violet photons coming from newly formed stars, through photo-desorption and sublimation. We observe a flattening of the anti-correlation at larger radial distances, which may be driven by the steep metallicity gradient measured in NGC4254.Comment: to appear in Proc. of the mm Universe 2023 conference, Grenoble (France), June 2023, published by F.     Exploring the interstellar medium of NGC 891 at millimeter wavelengths using the NIKA2 camera

    In the framework of the IMEGIN Large Program, we used the NIKA2 camera on the IRAM 30-m telescope to observe the edge-on galaxy NGC 891 at 1.15 mm and 2 mm and at a FWHM of 11.1" and 17.6", respectively. Multiwavelength data enriched with the new NIKA2 observations fitted by the HerBIE SED code (coupled with the THEMIS dust model) were used to constrain the physical properties of the ISM. Emission originating from the diffuse dust disk is detected at all wavelengths from mid-IR to mm, while mid-IR observations reveal warm dust emission from compact HII regions. Indications of mm excess emission have also been found in the outer parts of the galactic disk. Furthermore, our SED fitting analysis constrained the mass fraction of the small (< 15 Angstrom) dust grains. We found that small grains constitute 9.5% of the total dust mass in the galactic plane, but this fraction increases up to ~ 20% at large distances (|z| > 3 kpc) from the galactic plane.Comment: To appear in Proc. of the mm Universe 2023 conference, Grenoble (France), June 2023, published by F.
