Environmental performance of accommodation establishments in the protected areas: case of Bolu, Türkiye

    No full text
Protected areas in tourism destinations are among the places where sensitivity should be exercised for the tourism sector. Accommodation establishments, particularly in protected areas, are considered in terms of environmental performance. This study aims to reveal the environmental performance levels of accommodation establishments in protected areas. The scale developed by Erdoğan and Tosun (2009) was used for the purpose of evaluating the environmental performance in accommodation establishments. Study data has been collected from business owners and executive directors in accommodation establishments located in protected areas in Bolu province of Türkiye. The data obtained in the study has been analyzed through the AMOS package program. The findings obtained from the study reveal that the environmental performance of accommodation establishments is not sufficient. The performance of the establishments to save energy by using the key card control system in the rooms is at low levels. In particular, the performance of the establishments regarding managerial knowledge on the environmental protection is required to be increased. It is thought that this study will contribute to the literature as it is one of the limited studies dealing with the environmental performance of accommodation establishments located in protected areas

A review of TLD's zero-count based on temperature and radiation history of them

In order to review the background value of a group of TLD-100, the zero-count values were collected from the first reading and after seven years after using them in experimental irradiations. The zero-counts for these two conditions were collected, as well as the dependence of temperature and radiation history of this group was evaluated. This study recommended that after frequently irradiation of TLDs the rearrangement for obtaining zero-count value must be performed before using TLDs in a new irradiation examination. Regarding on memory of radiation and thermal history, the sensitivity can change after receiving a large dose of radiation and undergoing readout. Additional annealing would be necessary to restore the original sensitivity. TLDs must be used under reproducible conditions to obtain consistent results

Objective: This study was designed to investigate the changes in expression levels of CYP1A2, CYP2D6, CYP2E1 and CYP3A4 genes in patients treated for alcohol dependence and a control group. The frequency of selected polymorphisms of these genes that might be a risk factor for alcohol-dependence and may affect the treatment success is also investigated. Method: Blood samples were collected in the beginning and at end of treatment from inpatients taking alcohol dependence treatment and from the control group. DNA and RNA isolation were performed. Gene expression was quantified by quantitative PCR (qPCR) and RFLP technique was used for polymorphism studies. Results: No significant difference in the expression levels of studied genes in the patients before and after the treatment and between the control group was detected. However, a significant difference between the CYP1A2*F allele frequency in control and patient groups was observed. For CYP2D6*4 polymorphism, heterozygous genotypes have been detected in both patients and controls, whereas no CYP2D6*4/*4 was detected in either groups, indicating expression of a functional mRNA without reducing enzyme activity. No significant difference was found between the patient and control groups in the CYP2E1 c1/c2 polymorphism. CYP3A4*V polymorphism was not detected in either groups. Discussion: No difference in expression levels of studied genes in patients before and after treatment and in the control group was detected. A significant difference in the frequency of CYP1A2*1F c.734C>A polymorphism was detected between patient and control groups indicating a possible role of this allele as a risk factor for alcohol dependence
