MONOPSONY POWER IN MULTIPLE INPUT MARKETS: A Nonparametric Approach
Cigarette manufacturers' monopsony power exertion in procuring domestic and imported tobacco is investigated using nonparametric methods. While it is often assumed that tobacco program rents are captured by growers, results indicate the opposite actually occurs. Cigarette manufacturers appear to exert significant monopsony power in the domestic leaf tobacco market and capture a large portion of program rents. Cigarette manufacturers appear to exert monopsony power of much smaller magnitude in the international leaf tobacco market, but with increasing magnitude in more recent years.market power, tobacco, nonparametric, monopsony, imports., International Relations/Trade, L1,
Ground-effect analysis of a jet transport airplane
An analysis of the ground effect of a jet transport airplane has been made. Data were obtained from recent flight tests primarily using the constant angle-of-attack approach technique. Reasonable results were obtained for ground-effect pitching moment and lift increments. These were compared with data from other sources, including computations, wind tunnel, and previous flight test. A recommended ground-effect model was developed from the results. A brief simulator study was conducted to determine the sensitivity of a particular configuration to this ground-effect model and its associated uncertainty
SBS System Description
Satellite Business Systems (SBS) recently initiated customer services, consisting of private, switched networks for integrated voice, digital and image transmission using satellite links among earth stations located on customer premises (Customer Network Service type A (CNSA)). Later, SBS plans to evolve system operation to allow the introduction of shared services for customers with more modest transmission needs.
The paper relates the essential engineering features of the SBS system to the resulting operational capabilities. The system description includes the satellite, earth station, TT&C and control configuration, as well as the Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) burst architecture

The Fauna of the Chemung Formation of Southwestern New York
The Randolph quadrangle is located just north of the Pennsylvania state line in the southern part of Cattaraugus County, in southwestern New York. During the summer of 1929, the writer spent six weeks in the field in the southern part of that quadrangle, and this paper is based upon the work done and the fossils collected at that time
DISTINGUISHING THE SOURCE OF MARKET POWER: AN APPLICATION TO CIGARETTE MANUFACTURING
We compare nonparametric and nonstructural market power tests using data from the cigarette manufacturing industry. Tests are implemented to examine both monopoly and monopsony power exertion by cigarette manufacturers. Results indicate that market power in the tobacco industry, previously attributed to monopoly power exertion, should at least in part be attributed to monopsony market power in the upstream tobacco market.market power, nonparametric, nonstructural, monopsony, monopoly, cigarette manufacturing, Agribusiness,
