Introduction: Synchronous lesions of the jaws are reported in the literature and the etiopathogenesis can be similar in some cases. The oral surgeon must know the diseases that may occur simultaneously. Objective: The aim of this study was to report a case of synchronous lesions, your management, additionally discuss the etiopathogenesis correlation among these lesions and the possible evolution from one disease to the other in order to aid the professional about the management of this occurrence. Methods: This study reported a case of a 14-year-old female patient presenting a reddish sessile nodule in mandibular left premolars gingival region. Results: Radiographically, a well-defined radiolucent area involving left mandibular body was observed. An incisional biopsy of the extra-osseous lesion was performed and a giant cell lesion was histopathologically diagnosed. A surgical bone exploratory procedure revealed an empty cavity; therefore curettage to stimulate bleeding was performed in addition to the extra-osseous lesion excision. The final diagnosis was synergistic peripheral giant cell lesion and traumatic bone cyst. The 12 months follow-up did not show any relapse, moreover, the complete bone neoformation was observed. Conclusions: The pathogenesis of both lesions remains uncertain and a complete and detailed clinical and histopathological examination added to rigorous follow up with image exams resulted in a correct diagnosis and good prognosis of this case

Aims: develop a distance regulator for the Er:YAG laser. Methods: a metallic device adaptable to the 2051 handpiece was developed. Interchangeable metallic pieces, with diferent lengths, are adaptable to the regulator's body. Results: this laser device allows standard distances for laser delivering, from 08 to 20 millimetres from target tissue. Conclusions: the use of this new device allows a standard evaluation of the Er:YAG laser effects in experimental surgery, when emitted from different distances of the target tissue.

This study reports a radiographic review of 848 panoramic radiographs from the archives of Department of Surgery and Orthopedics, Faculty of Dentistry of the Federal University, with the purpose of evaluating the presence of supranumerary teeth and their characteristics such as gender prevalence, location, morphology, situation in dental arch, number of roots, age of the patients and occurrence of associated pathoses. The purpose of this study was to analyse the prevalence of supranumerary teeth in our population, comparatively to the literature. Sixty four (64) supranumerary teeth were founded in 54 patients, with the anterior region of the maxilla having highest occurrence showing 37(57,8%) of the total of the cases studied with supranumerary teeth; prevalence of conical and impacted teeth; without local associated pathoses; The results found in the present study are in accordance to what is shown in the literature

Pervasive gaps in Amazonian ecological research

Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050. This means that unless we take immediate action, we will not be able to establish their current status, much less monitor how it is changing and what is being lostinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
