Discrete moving breather collisions in a Klein-Gordon chain of oscillators

We study collision processes of moving breathers with the same frequency, traveling with opposite directions within a Klein-Gordon chain of oscillators. Two types of collisions have been analyzed: symmetric and non-symmetric, head-on collisions. For low enough frequency the outcome is strongly dependent of the dynamical states of the two colliding breathers just before the collision. For symmetric collisions, several results can be observed: breather generation, with the formation of a trapped breather and two new moving breathers; breather reflection; generation of two new moving breathers; and breather fusion bringing about a trapped breather. For non-symmetric collisions the possible results are: breather generation, with the formation of three new moving breathers; breather fusion, originating a new moving breather; breather trapping with also breather reflection; generation of two new moving breathers; and two new moving breathers traveling as a ligand state. This paper proposes an epistemological approximation between the method of visual analysis developed by Aby Warburg in Atlas Mnemosyne, based on concepts such as Nachleben der Antike (the afterlife of Antiquity) and Pathosformel, (the “emotionally charged visual tropes”), and some aspects of the Queer Theory, in particular the concept of "emotional resistances" proposed by Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick with the intention of developing "reparative epistemologies".Universidad de Málaga. Image estimators based on marked bins

The problem of approximating an "image" S in R^d from a random sample of points is considered. If S is included in a grid of square bins, a plausible estimator of S is defined as the union of the "marked" bins (those containing a sample point). We obtain convergence rates for this estimator and study its performance in the approximation of the border of S. The estimation of "digitalized" images is also addressed by using a Vapnik-Chervonenkis approach. The practical aspects of implementation are discussed in some detail, including some technical improvements on the estimator, whose performance is checked through simulated as well as real data examples
