Consumer behavior in the disposition of disliked gifts

La entrega y recepción de regalos ha sido investigada en diversos campos, incluido el comportamiento del consumidor. El presente estudio analiza el comportamiento de disposición de regalos no gustados de una muestra de 958 individuos adultos en Ecuador (un país latinoamericano). A nivel descriptivo, el método de disposición más frecuente de este tipo de regalos es el almacenamiento. A nivel multivariante, la edad, el género, el ingreso y el colectivismo del receptor; el impacto del regalo en la relación dador-receptor; el tiempo transcurrido desde la recepción del regalo; el precio estimado del regalo y si el regalo fue o no usado; predicen el método de disposición de los regalos no gustados. Adicionalmente se discuten estos resultados y sus implicaciones.Giving and receiving gifts have been investigated in many fields of study, including consumer behavior. This study analyzes the behavior of a sample of 958 adults from Ecuador (a Latin American country), focusing on the disposition of gifts that recipients do not like. At the descriptive level, the most common disposition method of these gifts is storage. At the multivariate level, age, gender, income, and collectivism of receiver; the gift impact on the giver-receiver relationship; the time elapsed since the receiving of the gift; the estimated price of the gift and whether the gift was used or not predict the disposition method of the disliked gift. These results and their implications are discussed

Arrangement of Livestock Potential for Climate Change Adjustment in Jimaguayú, Camagüey, Cuba

The purpose of this paper was to contribute to environmental arrangement of livestock potential in the municipality of Jimaguayú, Camagüey, Cuba. The indicators, restrictions, categories, and conflicts of livestock potential in the region were identified and placed on a map. Additionally, the policies, guidelines, regulations, and standards for proper environmental management in each livestock raising area were determined. The study concluded that the potential of livestock activity consists in the environmentally recommended use as principal of eight of the seventeen secondary environmental areas that make up the region. One of them was considered for secondary use. In terms of categories, the municipality comprises 126.9 km2 with no livestock potential. It includes several settlements and water reservoirs; 115.7 km2 were identified as poor potential; 316.3 km2 had a mid-potential; and 225.4 km2 was high. The previous contributed to the environmental arrangement of livestock potential in the municipality of Jimaguayú, Camagüey. Accordingly, restrictions, indicators, categories, and conflicts observed in the sector were determined in order to make recommendations for livestock development in the secondary environmental areas with some potential. It was also useful to set up policies and general and specific guidelines

Diagnóstico de instalaciones de transporte de hidromezcla afectadas por cavitación

Se fundamenta de forma experimental la relación entre niveles de vibración y altura de succión en bombas centrífugas de instalaciones de transporte de hidromezclas en la industria del níquel. Se establecen las etapas del régimen cavitacional y se plantea el procedimiento para el diagnóstico de instalaciones afectadas por la cavitación. La presencia de cavitación se define a partir del conocimiento de los factores hidráulicos que influyen sobre la carga neta de succión de la instalación. Se ofrecen las ecuaciones que rigen la presencia de este fenómeno y se establecen los niveles de vibraciones en los que la instalación debe operar para garantizar los parámetros técnicos y económicos

Minimal pre-mRNA substrates with natural and converted sites for full-round U insertion and U deletion RNA editing in trypanosomes

Trypanosome RNA editing by uridylate insertion or deletion cycles is a mitochondrial mRNA maturation process catalyzed by multisubunit complexes. A full-round of editing entails three consecutive steps directed by partially complementary guide RNAs: pre-mRNA cleavage, U addition or removal, and ligation. The structural and functional composition of editing complexes is intensively studied, but their molecular interactions in and around editing sites are not completely understood. In this study, we performed a systematic analysis of distal RNA requirements for full-round insertion and deletion by purified editosomes. We define minimal substrates for efficient editing of A6 and CYb model transcripts, and established a new substrate, RPS12. Important differences were observed in the composition of substrates for insertion and deletion. Furthermore, we also showed for the first time that natural sites can be artificially converted in both directions: from deletion to insertion or from insertion to deletion. Our site conversions enabled a direct comparison of the two editing kinds at common sites during substrate minimization and demonstrate that all basic determinants directing the editosome to carry out full-round insertion or deletion reside within each editing site. Surprisingly, we were able to engineer a deletion site into CYb, which exclusively undergoes insertion in nature

Clothing Disposal System by Gifting: Characteristics, Processes, and Interactions

The study of clothing disposal systems, involving the flow of clothing from one household to another, is of great interest because of the positive social and environmental consequences. Based on 35 in-depth interviews with adult men and women in Ecuador, a Latin American country, the authors sought to expand knowledge regarding one of these systems: clothing disposal by gifting to family, friends, and acquaintances. The respondents’ narratives indicated that the clothing disposal system by gifting is noncentric; based on social exchange, it strengthens the links between givers and recipients while allowing for clothes to circulate for a longer time. The data also indicated an intersection between age and gender, offering insight into how the process of clothing disposal by gifting develops within households. In some disposal events reported by participants, the clothing disposal system by gifting demonstrated autonomy, but in other events, it interacted with the clothing marketing system.Universidad Tecnológica Indoaméric
