Introdução à análise probabilística simplificada da segurança estrutural

    Get PDF

Analytical results for a Bessel function times Legendre polynomials class integrals

When treating problems of vector diffraction in electromagnetic theory, the evaluation of the integral involving Bessel and associated Legendre functions is necessary. Here we present the analytical result for this integral that will make unnecessary numerical quadrature techniques or localized approximations. The solution is presented using the properties of the Bessel and associated Legendre functions.Comment: 4 page

Hydroinformatics based decision.making integrating modelling, sampling and profiling: the Ria Formosa case

    Get PDF
A Waste Water monitoring program aiming to help decision making is presented. The program includes traditional and inboard sensor sampling, hydrodynamic and water quality modeling and a GIS based database to help the decision making of manager authorities. The focus is in the quality of waters receiving discharges from Waste Water Treatment Plants. Data was used to feed model simulations and produce hydrodynamic, effluent dispersion and ecological results. The system was then used to run different scenarios of discharge flow, concentration and location. The results enable to access the current water quality state of the lagoon and are being used as a decision making tool by the waste water managers in the evaluation phase of the treatment plant project to decide the location and the level of treatment of the discharge

Hydrological modelling of Maranhão and Pracana Basins, a first approach

    Get PDF
Modelling the hydrology of hydrographic basins has shown itself as a useful tool in environment management. The hydrological models can be used for multiple purposes: estimate runoff from sequences of rainfall, access stream water quality, quantify the diffuse pollution that reaches water masses such as estuaries, rivers and lakes, etc. This study has as final objective to simulate and analyse the flow, sediment transport and water quality as a function of landuse and soil type in the basins of Maranhão and Pracana. The modelling system used is SWAT, Soil Water Assessment Tool. In this first phase of the study the hydrodynamic calibration of the model was performed using measurements of average daily flows in five stations. The model compares well with the measurements; the annual average flows are similar and the majority of the measured flow peaks coincide with the model peaks

Multi-objective probabilistic optimization of bridge lifetime maintenance : novel approach

    Get PDF
Due to the increase in deterioration of the existing civil infrastructure, in particular bridge networks, governments and highway agencies are trying to find methods that allow a consistent and rational management of existing bridges. In this paper, a novel approach is presented. This approach uses multi-objective probabilistic optimization over time and defines performance of existing bridges in terms of lifetime condition, safety, and cost. The proposed approach aims at providing a tool for optimal maintenance management policy definition of a large group of similar structures. Consequently, emphasis is put on the use of limited information and low computational cost. Applications to real cases are presented showing the applicability of the method as well as its advantages in terms of reduction of costs and improvements in performance.(undefined

Lifetime multi-objective optimization of maintenance of existing steel structures

    Get PDF
In this paper, the lifetime performance of deteriorating structures, defined by their time dependent condition index and reliability index, is analyzed. The effect of preventive and essential maintenance actions on performance and cost in predicted, and the optimal times of application of preventive and essential maintenance actions are found. Due to significant uncertainty in the initial performance, effects of deterioration and of maintenance actions, as well as, times of application and cost of maintenance actions, the analysis is performed in a probabilistic framework. The reduction in performance due to deterioration is simulated using an extension of the model proposed by Frangopol (1998). The probabilistic condition index, reliability index, and cumulative cost profiles are computed using Latin Hypercube simulation. Optimization of times of application is performed using genetic algorithms. Results show the significant importance of preventive maintenance actions in reducing the lifetime cost of existing structures, but also their fundamental role of essential maintenance action in keeping structures safe and serviceable during the entire lifetime

Estudo comparativo entre modelos de previsão de resistência: leis analíticas versus data mining

    Get PDF

A review on the bond behavior of FRP NSM systems in concrete

    Get PDF
This paper presents a review of current knowledge on the bond behavior of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) systems inserted in the cover of concrete elements, commonly known as the near-surface mounted technique (NSM). In the first part, by studying the physics of the phenomenon, the typical failure modes, the most common bond tests and two of the most important design guidelines for FRP NSM systems are introduced. In the second part, a database of bond tests composed by 431 records is presented and the accuracy of existing design guidelines is assessed with this data. Lastly, the formulations proposed by these design guidelines are recalibrated based on the experimental results in the database. This work was supported by FEDER funds through the Operational Program for Competitiveness Factors - COMPETE and National Funds through FCT (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) under the project CutInDur PTDC/ECM/11 2396/2009. Screening Tools Designed to Assess and Evaluate Oropharyngeal Dysphagia in Adult Patients: A Scoping Review

    Get PDF
Oropharyngeal Dysphagia (OD) significantly decreases a patient’s quality of life and poses a high economic burden to institutions. In this sense, evaluation and assessment are important interventions for health professionals, although current tools and instruments are multiple and are dispersed in the literature. The aim of this review was to map existing screening tools to assess and evaluate OD in adult patients, identify their relevant clinical parameters and respective contexts of use and provide a systematic approach and summary to better inform practice. A scoping review was developed guided by the JBI methodology and using PRISMA-ScR to report results published between 2014 and 2021, in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Databases included Medline, Academic Search Complete, CINAHL Complete, Scielo, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, OpenGrey and B-On. Mendeley was used to store and screen data. A total of 33 studies were included in the study, of which 19 tools were identified, some being intervention-based tools and others an algorithm for decision. The most common context used was in the general population and older adults. Regarding clinical parameters, the most common were food consistency, presence of the cough reflex, swallowing effort, voice changes and weight. As oropharyngeal dysphagia concerns important risks for the patient, a rigorous assessment must be performed. In this sense, the review identified specific disease-related tools and more general instruments, and it is an important contribution to more efficient dysphagia screening and prevention.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
