Results in Kalb-Ramond field localization and resonances on deformed branes
We make an analysis about several aspects of localization of the Kalb-Ramond
gauge field in a specific four dimensional AdS membrane embedded in a five
dimensional space-time. The membrane is generated from a deformation of the
potential and belongs to a new class of defect solutions. In
this context we find resonance structures in the analysis of massive modes. The
study of deformed defects is important because they contain internal structures
and these may have implications to the way the background space-time is
constructed and the way its curvature behaves. The main objective here is to
observe the contributions of the deformation procedure to the resonances and
the well known field localization methods.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figures, Latex with EPL macr
Effect of the Milky Way on Magellanic Cloud structure
A combination of analytic models and n-body simulations implies that the
structural evolution of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is dominated by its
dynamical interaction with the Milky Way. Although expected at some level, the
scope of the involvement has significant observational consequences. First, LMC
disk orbits are torqued out of the disk plane, thickening the disk and
populating a spheroid. The torque results from direct forcing by the Milky Way
tide and, indirectly, from the drag between the LMC disk and its halo resulting
from the induced precession of the LMC disk. The latter is a newly reported
mechanism that can affect all satellite interations. However, the overall
torque can not isotropize the stellar orbits and their kinematics remains
disk-like. Such a kinematic signature is observed for nearly all LMC
populations. The extended disk distribution is predicted to increase the
microlensing toward the LMC. Second, the disk's binding energy slowly decreases
during this process, puffing up and priming the outer regions for subsequent
tidal stripping. Because the tidally stripped debris will be spatially
extended, the distribution of stripped stars is much more extended than the HI
Magellanic Stream. This is consistent with upper limits to stellar densities in
the gas stream and suggests a different strategy for detecting the stripped
stars. And, finally, the mass loss over several LMC orbits is predicted by
n-body simulation and the debris extends to tens of kiloparsecs from the tidal
boundary. Although the overall space density of the stripped stars is low,
possible existence of such intervening populations have been recently reported
and may be detectable using 2MASS.Comment: 15 pages, color Postscript figures, uses emulateapj.sty. Also

Two-Dimensional Dilaton-Gravity Coupled to Massless Spinors
We apply a global and geometrically well-defined formalism for
spinor-dilaton-gravity to two-dimensional manifolds. We discuss the general
formalism and focus attention on some particular choices of the dilatonic
potential. For constant dilatonic potential the model turns out to be
completely solvable and the general solution is found. For linear and
exponential dilatonic potentials we present the class of exact solutions with a
Killing vector.Comment: 21 pages, LaTeX, minor changes in text and format, final version to

Chemical vapor deposition of highly conjugated, transparent boron carbon nitride thin films
Ternary materials made up only from the lightweight elements boron, carbon, and nitrogen are very attractive due to their tunable properties that can be obtained by changing the relative elemental composition. However, most of the times, the synthesis requires to use up to three different precursor and very high temperatures for the synthesis. Moreover, the low reciprocal solubility of boron nitride and graphene often leads to BN-C composite materials due to phase segregation. Herein, an innovative method is presented to prepare BCN thin films by chemical vapor deposition from a single source precursor, melamine diborate. The deposition occurs homogenously at relatively low temperatures generating very high degree of sp2 conjugation. The as-prepared thin films possess high transparency and refractive index values in the visible range that are of interest for reflective mirrors and lenses. Furthermore, they are wide-bandgap semiconductor with very positive valence band, making these materials very stable against oxidation of interest as protective coating and charge transport layer for solar cells. The simple chemical vapor deposition method that relies on commonly available and low-hazard precursor can open the way for application of BCN thin films in optics, optoelectronics, and beyond
Free Fields for Chiral 2D Dilaton Gravity
We give an explicit canonical transformation which transforms a generic

q- Deformed Boson Expansions
A deformed boson mapping of the Marumori type is derived for an underlying
algebra. As an example, we bosonize a pairing hamiltonian in a two
level space, for which an exact treatment is possible. Comparisons are then
made between the exact result, our q- deformed boson expansion and the usual
non - deformed expansion.Comment: 8 pages plus 2 figures (available upon request
Geometrodynamical Formulation of Two-Dimensional Dilaton Gravity
Two-dimensional matterless dilaton gravity with arbitrary dilatonic potential
can be discussed in a unitary way, both in the Lagrangian and canonical
frameworks, by introducing suitable field redefinitions. The new fields are
directly related to the original spacetime geometry and in the canonical
picture they generalize the well-known geometrodynamical variables used in the
discussion of the Schwarzschild black hole. So the model can be quantized using
the techniques developed for the latter case. The resulting quantum theory
exhibits the Birkhoff theorem at the quantum level.Comment: 15 pages, LATE
