    Desempenho agronômico de variedades de feijoeiro no sistema plantio direto.

    O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o rendimento de variedades de feijoeiro comum no sistema de plantio direto sobre a biomassa da vegetação de pousio em função da adubação de plantio. O estudo foi realizado no município de Bujari, AC. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados em parcelas subdivididas com quatro repetições. O experimento consistiu no cultivo, na parcela, de três variedades de feijoeiro em plantio direto na palhada de plantas espontâneas, com presença e ausência de adubação de plantio na subparcela. As variáveis analisadas foram rendimento de grãos, estande final, número de vagens por planta, número de grãos por vagem e massa de cem grãos. Os dados foram submetidos ao teste F e as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (p<0,05). A variedade de feijão Carioca Pitoco obteve um melhor rendimento de grãos, do que as variedades Carioca e Rosinha no primeiro ano de cultivo em sistema de plantio direto.     A hydrogen slush density reference system was designed for calibration of field-type instruments and/or transfer standards. The device is based on the buoyancy principle of Archimedes. The solids are weighed in a low-mass container so arranged that solids and container are buoyed by triple-point liquid hydrogen during the weighing process. Several types of hydrogen slush density transducers were developed and tested for possible use as transfer standards. The most successful transducers found were those which depend on change in dielectric constant, after which the Clausius-Mossotti function is used to relate dielectric constant and density

    Controle da lagarta-do-cartucho com inseticidas granulados aplicados mecanicamente nas culturas de milho e sorgo.

    Numa granuladeira comercial para aplicar inseticidas no solo, realizaram-se algumas adaptacoes que permitiram, tambem, a aplicacao de inseticidas granulados diretamente no cartucho da planta, para controlar a lagarta-do-cartucho (Spodoptera frugiperda Smith). Esta maquina foi adaptada em um cultivador-adubador, permitindo realizar, simultaneamente, as operacoes de cultivo mecanico, adubacao nitrogenada em cobertura e aplicacao de inseticida granluado. Utilizando esta adaptacao, foi avaliada uma serie de inseticidas na cultura tanto do milho quanto do sorgo. A excecao dos inseticidas deltamethrin (5,3 gramas do principio ativo/ha) e carbofuran (0,44 kg/ha) que, nas dosagens utilizadas, nao deram controle satisfatorio do inseto, os demais inseticidas apresentaram uma percentagem de controle variando de 81,2 a 100%. Entre estes, foram testados o methomyl, dizinon, forate, chlorpyrifos ethil, fonofos, quinalfos, carbaril e acephate. Considerando as vantagens apresentadas pelos inseticidas granulados (menor risco de intoxicacao, menor probabilidade de provocar desequilibrio biologico e dispensa de agua) e os resultados da eficiencia obtidos, pode-se concluir que a granuladeira acrescida das adaptacoes realizadas pode ser udada para o controle mecanizado da lagarta-do-cartucho em milho e sorgo, com uma vantagem adicional de poder ser integrada as operacoes de cultivo mecanico e adubacao nitrogenada em cobertura

    Inducing charges and currents from extra dimensions

    In a particular variant of Kaluza-Klein theory, the so-called induced-matter theory (IMT), it is shown that any configuration of matter may be geometrically induced from a five-dimensional vacuum space. By using a similar approach we show that any distribution of charges and currents may also be induced from a five-dimensional vacuum space. Whereas in the case of IMT the geometry is Riemannian and the fundamental equations are the five-dimensional Einstein equations in vacuum, here we consider a Minkowskian geometry and the five-dimensional Maxwell equations in vacuum.Comment: 8 pages.     Solving the SUSY CP problem with flavor breaking F-terms

    Supersymmetric flavor models for the radiative generation of fermion masses offer an alternative way to solve the SUSY-CP problem. We assume that the supersymmetric theory is flavor and CP conserving. CP violating phases are associated to the vacuum expectation values of flavor violating susy-breaking fields. As a consequence, phases appear at tree level only in the soft supersymmetry breaking matrices. Using a U(2) flavor model as an example we show that it is possible to generate radiatively the first and second generation of quark masses and mixings as well as the CKM CP phase. The one-loop supersymmetric contributions to EDMs are automatically zero since all the relevant parameters in the lagrangian are flavor conserving and as a consequence real. The size of the flavor and CP mixing in the susy breaking sector is mostly determined by the fermion mass ratios and CKM elements. We calculate the contributions to epsilon, epsilon^{prime} and to the CP asymmetries in the B decays to psi Ks, phi Ks, eta^{\prime} Ks and Xs gamma. We analyze a case study with maximal predictivity in the fermion sector. For this worst case scenario the measurements of Delta mK, Delta mB and epsilon constrain the model requiring extremely heavy squark spectra.Comment: 21 pages, RevTex

    New Physics effects in the flavor-changing neutral couplings of the Top quark

    We survey the flavor-changing neutral couplings (FCNC) of the top quark predicted by some extensions of the Standard Model: THDM, SUSY, L-R symmetric, TC2, 331, and models with extra quarks. Since the expected sensitivity of the LHC and ILC for the tcV (V=\gamma,g,Z) and tcH couplings is of order of a few percent, we emphasize the importance of any new physics effect that gives a prediction for these FCNC couplings within this limit.
