The true retention values of nutrients, with particular reference to fatty acids of dietary importance, were investigated in burgers with none or half of the pork backfat replaced with soybean oil ?healthier burgers (HB)- added with 0g/kg, 5g/kg, 10g/kg and 20g/kg of dry soybean sprouts (DSS) as additive. A multivariate analysis was applied in order to detect the main fatty acids to characterize the finished product. Cooking yield of samples increased with the amount DSS incorporated, meaning that this bulking agent improved retention of water and fat in the matrix. The higher concentration of additive the higher the protein and total fat retention. Respect to fatty acid profile in samples incorporated with 5g/kg, 10g/kg of DSS the loss of fat ?specially saturated fatty acids (SFA) - improved the ratio between polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and SFA. Also analyses of atherogenic and thrombogenic indices indicate that 10g/kg DSS presents the lower values for these parameters. Multivariate analysis shown that fatty acid descriptors with more contribution to variability of total data were miristic, palmitic, linoleic and linolenic fatty acid.Fil: Romero, Mara Cristina. A cane-based low cost sensor to implement attention mechanisms in telecare robots

    Get PDF
Telepresence robots have been recently used for Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA). Since the robot can not track a person continuously, there are several strategies to decide when to check them, from cyclic checks to simple requests from users and/or caregivers. In order to adapt to the user needs and condition, it is preferable to perform CGA as soon as regularities appear. However, this requires detection of potential issues in users to offer immediate service. In this work we propose a new low cost force sensor system to detect user’s condition and attract attention of CGA robots, so they can perform a full examination on a need basis. The main advantages of this system are: i) it can be attached to any standard commercial cane; ii) its power consumption is very reduced; and iii) it provides continuous information as long as the user walks. It has been tested with several elderly volunteers in care facilities. Results have proven that the sensor readings are indeed correlated with the users’ condition.Universidad de Málaga. Get PDF
Los resultados dan apoyo al marco teórico de metas de logro 3x2[Abstract] Youth affiliation to physical activity and their active implication in sport throughout life, are two of the main objectives in Physical Education. In recent years, the use of self-made materials in Physical Education class has increased significantly. The main reasons may be due to the numerous educational opportunities they provide to students. Furthermore, the low budget allocated to most Department of Physical Education increases the need for making these inexpensive materials. The aim of this study is to examine the perception manifested by Primary School students about the use of these materials in their of Physical Education class and see if there are any differences associated to gender or students previous experience with them. The sample comprised 131 students (43 boys and 88 girls), aged 9 to 12 years (M = 10.59; SD = 0.74), all of them belonging to two Primary Schools in the North of Spain. These students completed a questionnaire ad hoc, i.e. specifically designed for this research, consisting of two parts: the first one, considered sociodemographic variables items such as age, gender, school grade, etc. and the second one was composed of 10 items assessing the level of familiarity the students had with these self-made materials, valued how the students perceived the effort put into them construction, and recorder how interested they were in the environmental values they promoted. We performed descriptive analysis (M and SD), Cronbach Alphas, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, U de Mann-Whitney and Kruskal Wallis. The results showed a good internal consistency of the questionnaire and received high marks in how fun and interesting using these materials was for students. These high results might be explained because the students found the material to be a novelty and looked forward to using them again in the future, unlike what usually happens with conventional materials

Nowadays, there are different digital tools that educators can apply to teach writing more efficiently. These devices focus on using comics to encourage students’ engagement while they are learning a foreign language by means of technology. One of these software tools is Pixton. It is a digital application that permits the design of digital comic strips, and it offers chances for offering feedback, sharing, and downloading comic strips. It also provides easy access for teachers and students. Former studies have analysed the implementation of Pixton for teaching writing skills in the EFL classroom. They offer verification of the usefulness of this tool to teach EFL grammar, vocabulary and writing skills in the Latin American context. However, there is little formal investigation about Pixton as a tool for teaching Storytelling in the Spanish context. This study was conducted with the participation of second-year students of an English Didactics subject from the Degree of Primary Education at the University of Malaga. Scholars were required to use Pixton to create in groups a short story in English to be narrated in class –a Storytelling – which should be focus on students of the second cycle of Primary Education. The story could be made-up by the students, adapted from a tale, or copied from the web. After implementing the task, the undergraduates had to accomplish a survey online with the purpose of expressing their perceptions about the learning experience of using Pixton. The participating sample was made up of 72 male and female students from the 2022/2023 academic year. Results indicate great success and reception of the experience on the part of the students, despite they asserted that they never had previously used Pixton. Among the most outstanding responses, the main drawback detected by the students was the difficulty to work with different computers, since the tool only permitted to edit the comics individually.Universidad de Málaga. Higher education students are requested to learn an extensive variety of contents and develop a series of skills based on curricular standards. These demands usually differ considerably with pupils’ interests. As scholars are heterogeneous in their process of learning-acquisition, educators need to develop a suitable method of instruction. In order to promote greater interest on the part of the students’ while meeting the content and skills needed, a gamified project regarding an English Didactics’ subject was devised. This project was developed with the participation of second-year students from the Degree in Primary Education at the University of Malaga. It concerns an experience carried out during the 2022/2023 academic year where scholars were required to gamify in groups different contents instructed in the subject “Fundamentos Teórico-Prácticos de la enseñanza de la Lengua Extranjera”. The students’ response of the above-mentioned project was examined using a survey that was elaborated ad hoc and validated by experts. One hundred and twenty scholars participated in the study. Results indicate great reception on the part of the participants, who consider this strategy to learning with new technologies as a creative as well as a motivating experience.Universidad de Málaga.
