A biodiversity inventory of the Lepidoptera of Pico Bonito National Park and vicinity, in the Department of Atlantida of northern Honduras, was initiated in 2009 to obtain baseline data. We present a revised checklist of Honduran butterfly species (updated from the initial 1967 lists), as well as the first comprehensive list of Honduran moths. Our updated list includes 550 species of Papilionoidea, 311 Hesperioidea, and 1,441 moth species

Role of Secondary Motifs in Fast Folding Polymers: A Dynamical Variational Principle
A fascinating and open question challenging biochemistry, physics and even
geometry is the presence of highly regular motifs such as alpha-helices in the
folded state of biopolymers and proteins. Stimulating explanations ranging from
chemical propensity to simple geometrical reasoning have been invoked to
rationalize the existence of such secondary structures. We formulate a
dynamical variational principle for selection in conformation space based on
the requirement that the backbone of the native state of biologically viable
polymers be rapidly accessible from the denatured state. The variational
principle is shown to result in the emergence of helical order in compact

Protein structures and optimal folding emerging from a geometrical variational principle
Novel numerical techniques, validated by an analysis of barnase and
chymotrypsin inhibitor, are used to elucidate the paramount role played by the
geometry of the protein backbone in steering the folding to the correct native
state. It is found that, irrespective of the sequence, the native state of a
protein has exceedingly large number of conformations with a given amount of
structural overlap compared to other compact artificial backbones; moreover the
conformational entropies of unrelated proteins of the same length are nearly
equal at any given stage of folding. These results are suggestive of an
extremality principle underlying protein evolution, which, in turn, is shown to

The potential determinants of young people's sense of justice: an international study
This paper uses reports from 13,000 Grade Nine pupils in five countries to examine issues such as whether they were treated fairly at school, trust their teachers and adults in wider society, are willing to sacrifice teacher attention to help others, and support the cultural integration of recent immigrants. Using such reports as âoutcomesâ in a multiâstage regression model, it is clear that they are largely unrelated to schoolâlevel pupil mix variables. To some extent, these outcomes are stratified by pupil and family background in the same way for all countries. However, the largest association is with pupilâreported experience of interactions with their teachers. Teachers appear to be a major influence on young people's sense of justice and the principles they apply in deciding whether something is fair. The paper concludes by suggesting ways in which schools and teachers could take advantage of this finding
Accuracy of responses from postal surveys about continuing medical education and information behavior: experiences from a survey among German diabetologists
BACKGROUND: Postal surveys are a popular instrument for studies about continuing medical education habits. But little is known about the accuracy of responses in such surveys. The objective of this study was to quantify the magnitude of inaccurate responses in a postal survey among physicians. METHODS: A sub-analysis of a questionnaire about continuing medical education habits and information management was performed. The five variables used for the quantitative analysis are based on a question about the knowledge of a fictitious technical term and on inconsistencies in contingency tables of answers to logically connected questions. RESULTS: Response rate was 52%. Non-response bias is possible but seems not very likely since an association between demographic variables and inconsistent responses could not be found. About 10% of responses were inaccurate according to the definition. CONCLUSION: It was shown that a sub-analysis of a questionnaire makes a quantification of inaccurate responses in postal surveys possible. This sub-analysis revealed that a notable portion of responses in a postal survey about continuing medical education habits and information management was inaccurate
