How to break access control in a controlled manner

The Electronic Medical Record (EMR) integrates heterogeneous information within a Healthcare Institution stressing the need for security and access control. The Biostatistics and Medical Informatics Department from Porto Faculty of Medicine has recently implemented a Virtual EMR (VEMR) in order to integrate patient information and clinical reports within a university hospital. With more than 500 medical doctors using the system on a daily basis, an access control policy and model were implemented. However, the healthcare environment has unanticipated situations (i.e. emergency situations) where access to information is essential. Most traditional policies do not allow for overriding. A policy that allows for Break-The-Glass (BTG) was implemented in order to override access control whilst providing for non-repudiation mechanisms for its usage. Teste de um modelo agrometeorológico para estudo da influência da variabilidade climática na cultura da soja.

Com o objetivo de verificar o efeito do clima sobre a produtividade da cultura da soja em Minas Gerais, foi desenvolvido um modelo de simulação dinâmico, mecanístico e deterrninístico. A principal característica do modelo foi a busca do equilíbrio entre a simplicidade no seu manuseio e o rigor científico necessário. Como variáveis de entrada, o modelo utiliza os elementos climáticos precipitação, temperatura e insolação. Os resultados mostraram que o modelo simulou satisfatoriamente a produtividade da soja para os anos agrícolas de 1995/96 e 1996/97, evídenciando as diferenças morfológicas e fisiológicas da cultura, em resposta às variações climáticas, o que evidencia o seu alto potencial de aplicação no entendimento das relações entre clima e cultura

Com o objetivo de verificar o efeito da temperatura do ar sobre a produtividade da cultura da soja, em Minas Gerais, foi desenvolvido um modelo de simulação dinâmico, mecanístico e determinístico. A principal característica do modelo foi a associação da simplicidade com o rigor científico necessário. Como variáveis de entrada o modelo utiliza os elementos climáticos precipitação, temperatura e insolação, por serem de fácil obtenção. Os resultados indicaram que o modelo mostrou-se sensível às variabilidades climáticas intra-anual e inter-anual, representadas pelas diferentes condições meteorológicas sucedidas nas diferentes datas de semeadura, evidenciando o seu alto potencial de aplicação como ferramenta no entendimento das relações entre a cultura da soja e os elementos climáticos. O modelo indicou diferença no rendimento final de matéria seca e grãos, e o fndice de Colheita variou de 33,1% até 29,1% em relação às datas de semeadura de 15/10 a 15/12 para o ano de 1996

The Portuguese Severe Asthma Registry: Development, Features, and Data Sharing Policies

The Portuguese Severe Asthma Registry (Registo de Asma Grave Portugal, RAG) was developed by an open collaborative network of asthma specialists. RAG collects data from adults and pediatric severe asthma patients that despite treatment optimization and adequate management of comorbidities require step 4/5 treatment according to GINA recommendations. In this paper, we describe the development and implementation of RAG, its features, and data sharing policies. The contents and structure of RAG were defined in a multistep consensus process. A pilot version was pretested and iteratively improved. The selection of data elements for RAG considered other severe asthma registries, aiming at characterizing the patient's clinical status whilst avoiding overloading the standard workflow of the clinical appointment. Features of RAG include automatic assessment of eligibility, easy data input, and exportable data in natural language that can be pasted directly in patients' electronic health record and security features to enable data sharing (among researchers and with other international databases) without compromising patients' confidentiality. RAG is a national web-based disease registry of severe asthma patients, available at asmagrave.pt. An estimate of \Omega_m without priors

Using mean relative peculiar velocity measurements for pairs of galaxies, we estimate the cosmological density parameter $\Omega_m$ and the amplitude of density fluctuations $\sigma_8$. Our results suggest that our statistic is a robust and reproducible measure of the mean pairwise velocity and thereby the $\Omega_m$ parameter. We get $\Omega_m = 0.30^{+0.17}_{-0.07}$ and $\sigma_8 = 1.13^{+0.22}_{-0.23}$.
