    Crown lengthening surgery and transurgical restoration

    The crown lengthening surgery and the transurgical restoration are alternative procedures to enable the restoration of teeth inaccessible to the conventional techniques and restore the lost biological space. Objective: This study aimed to present clinically the reconstruction of a right maxillary second molar through crown lengthening surgery associated with transurgical restoration with composite resin in a patient treated in the Integrated Clinics of the University of Ribeirão Preto. Case report: Patient E.H.C.V., female, aged 51 years, attended the dental clinic of the University of Ribeirão Preto. The anamnesis showed a favorable health history and the clinical examination showed great tooth crown destruction of tooth #17. The treatment planning included the crown lengthening periodontal surgery with regularization of alveolar bone on the buccal surface of tooth #17, rubber dam isolation, the restauration of the compromised area with composite resin, and suture in the same session. After 7 days, the sutures were removed and the restoration polished. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the use of this technique is a viable, fast, and satisfactory solution, with good results, favoring the health and aesthetics, returning function and better social life to the patient

    Antimicrobial activity of sodium hypochlorite associated with intracanal medication for Candida albicans and Enterococcus faecalis inoculated in root canals

    OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the action of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) associated with an intracanal medication against Candida albicans and Enterococcus faecalis inoculated in root canals. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Thirty-six human single-rooted teeth with single root canals were used. The canals were contaminated with C. albicans and E. faecalis for 21 days and were then instrumented with 1% NaOCl. The roots were divided into 3 groups (n=12) according to the intracanal medication applied: calcium hydroxide paste, 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) gel, and 2% CHX gel associated with calcium hydroxide. The following collections were made from the root canals: a) initial sample (IS): 21 days after contamination (control), b) S1: after instrumentation, c) S2: 14 days after intracanal medication placement; S3: 7 days after intracanal medication removal. The results were analyzed statistically by the Kruskal-Wallis test at 5% significance level. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Both 1% NaOCl irrigation and the intracanal medications were effective in eliminating E. faecalis and C. albicans inoculated in root canals

    ANÁLISE DE CIRCUNSTÂNCIAS NOTIFICÁVEIS: INCIDENTES QUE PODEM COMPROMETER A SEGURANÇA DOS PACIENTES

    Objective: To identify incidents defined as notifiable circumstances that occurred in a teachinghospital in Goiás.Method: Descriptive cross-sectional study that uses retrospective analysis of reports madeby the nursing team of a general medicine unit made in the January 2010-December 2015period. Data was collected and recorded in a semi-structured instrument and descriptiveanalysis was performed.Results: There were 2,718 notifiable circumstances, of which 1,100 (40.5%) were related toResources/ Organizational Management, 844 (31.1%) to Medical Devices/Equipment, 270(9.9%) to Documentation, 262 (9.6%) to Infrastructure/Facilities, 109 (4.0%) to Behavior, 80(3.0%) to Medications/Intravenous Fluids, 28 (1.0%) to Blood/Blood derivatives, 17 (0.6%) toDiet/Food. Conclusion: The present study showed that situations with the potential to causeharm to hospitalized patients were very common, exposing organizational and care weaknessesthat must be discussed by the management, so that improvements are implemented in thehealth care process and incidents are prevented.Objetivo: identificar los incidentes del tipo circunstancia notificable que ocurrieron en unhospital de enseñanza de Goiás.Método: estudio descriptivo, trasversal, de análisis retrospectivo de informes del equipo deenfermería de la unidad de clínica médica, hecho entre enero de 2010 y diciembre de 2015.Se obtuvieron los datos y estos se registraron por medio de instrumento semi estructurado,procediéndose al análisis descriptivo.Resultados: se apuntaron 2.718 circunstancias notificables, de las cuales 1.100 (40,5%)se relacionaban a Recursos/Gestión Organizacional, 844 (31,1%) a Dispositivos/EquiposMédicos, 270 (9,9%) a Documentación, 262 (9,6%) a Infraestructura/Instalaciones, 109 (4,0%)a Comportamiento, 80 (3,0%) a Medicaciones/Fluidos Endovenosos, 28 (1,0%) a Sangre/Hemoderivados, 17 (0,6%) a Dieta/Alimentación.Conclusión: el estudio posibilitó identificar alta frecuencia de situaciones con potencial paragenerar daños a los pacientes ingresados, lo que muestra fragilidades organizacionales yasistenciales que se necesitan discutir por la gestión, de manera que se promuevan mejoríasen el proceso de cuidado y prevención de la ocurrencia de incidentes.Objetivo: identificar os incidentes do tipo circunstância notificável ocorridos em um hospital deensino de Goiás.Método: estudo descritivo, transversal, de análise retrospectiva de relatórios da equipe deenfermagem da unidade de clínica médica, entre janeiro de 2010 e dezembro de 2015.     Hexapoda Yearbook (Arthropoda: Mandibulata: Pancrustacea) Brazil 2020: the first annual production survey of new Brazilian species

    This paper provided a list of all new Brazilian Hexapoda species described in 2020. Furthermore, based on the information extracted by this list, we tackled additional questions regarding the taxa, the specialists involved in the species descriptions as well as the journals in which those papers have been published. We recorded a total of 680 new Brazilian species of Hexapoda described in 2020, classified in 245 genera, 112 families and 18 orders. These 680 species were published in a total of 219 articles comprising 423 different authors residing in 27 countries. Only 30% of these authors are women, which demonstrates an inequality regarding sexes. In relation to the number of authors by species, the majority of the new species had two authors and the maximum of authors by species was five. We also found inequalities in the production of described species regarding the regions of Brazil, with Southeast and South leading. The top 10 institutions regarding productions of new species have four in the Southeast, two at South and with one ate North Region being the outlier of this pattern. Out of the total 219 published articles, Zootaxa dominated with 322 described species in 95 articles. The average impact factor was of 1.4 with only seven articles being published in Impact Factors above 3, indicating a hardship on publishing taxonomic articles in high-impact journals.The highlight of this paper is that it is unprecedent, as no annual record of Hexapoda species described was ever made in previous years to Brazil.Fil: Silva Neto, Alberto Moreira.     From Data to Software to Science with the Rubin Observatory LSST

    The Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) dataset will dramatically alter our understanding of the Universe, from the origins of the Solar System to the nature of dark matter and dark energy. Much of this research will depend on the existence of robust, tested, and scalable algorithms, software, and services. Identifying and developing such tools ahead of time has the potential to significantly accelerate the delivery of early science from LSST. Developing these collaboratively, and making them broadly available, can enable more inclusive and equitable collaboration on LSST science. To facilitate such opportunities, a community workshop entitled "From Data to Software to Science with the Rubin Observatory LSST" was organized by the LSST Interdisciplinary Network for Collaboration and Computing (LINCC) and partners, and held at the Flatiron Institute in New York, March 28-30th 2022. The workshop included over 50 in-person attendees invited from over 300 applications. It identified seven key software areas of need: (i) scalable cross-matching and distributed joining of catalogs, (ii) robust photometric redshift determination, (iii) software for determination of selection functions, (iv) frameworks for scalable time-series analyses, (v) services for image access and reprocessing at scale, (vi) object image access (cutouts) and analysis at scale, and (vii) scalable job execution systems. This white paper summarizes the discussions of this workshop. It considers the motivating science use cases, identified cross-cutting algorithms, software, and services, their high-level technical specifications, and the principles of inclusive collaborations needed to develop them.
