The objective of this analysis is linked to the discussion of urban residential segregation marked by the Brazilian urban land structure and perpetuated by urban planning instruments at the municipal level. The spatial focus of the study is the municipality of Londrina (state of Paraná/Brazil). We aimed to analyze the relationship between urban zoning and the dynamics of residential segregation, unfolding two foci: verify to what extent the objectives presented in the municipal instrument translate the objectives of the instrument at the federal level (the City Statute– CE) and the national program “My Home, My Life” aimed to provide housing to socially vulnerable populations; the second focus, aims to assess how the planning instrument—the Special Zone of Social Interest (ZEIS), contemplated in the Land Use and Occupation Law and in the Municipal Master Plan of Londrina (PDPML, 2008)—materializes in practice the objectives of promoting equity in access to housing. The results show that although the objectives defined at the federal level are transposed to the municipal level, demonstrating a theoretical coherence between the instruments, there are flaws in their implementation. The case study results show that the urban zoning of Londrina has as a guideline a segregationist territorial ordering, leading to a residential segregation of the population with low purchasing power. On the other hand, the planning instrument that could change this reality is the ZEIS that, on the contrary, reinforced social housing in the periphery, conditioning the right to the city and perpetuating the social vulnerability of disadvantaged groups, in a process common to other Brazilian cities. Such constraints make relevant the establishment of land reserves for social housing based on clear roles of a social and functional mix, reinforced by the combat of vacant spaces and the definition of minimal housing and infrastructure densities to allow urban occupation.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The main objective of this article is related to the need of thinking about the evaluation and monitoring of public policies, including development policies and planning, considering that these are key tools for territorial cohesion. This analysis has two interconnected objects of study: the first is to present the methodological approach for evaluating public policy developed by the European Commission to assess the regional and sectoral policy instruments implemented in the various European regions; the second object, is its application focusing on the operational programs in Portugal and an application in Brazil. In order to approximate this methodological base with the experience of the public policies of spatial planning in the Brazilian, the law will be analyzed federal law called the City Statute (n. º10.257, 2001) and its consistency with local politics. As an example, the Master Plan of Londrina (PDPML, 2008) was selected with the purpose of evaluating the degree of coherence between the federal urban public policy and a municipal policy.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Competitive electrochemical immunosensor for the detection of unfolded p53 protein in blood as biomarker for Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer's disease is one of the most common causes of dementia nowadays, and its prevalence increases over time. Because of this and the difficulty of its diagnosis, accurate methods for the analysis of specific biomarkers for an early diagnosis of this disease are much needed. Recently, the levels of unfolded isoform of the multifunctional protein p53 in plasma have been proved to increase selectively in Alzheimer's Disease patients in comparison with healthy subjects, thus entering the list of biomarkers that can be used for the diagnosis of this illness. We present here the development of an electrochemical immunosensor based on nanostructured screen-printed carbon electrodes for the quantification of unfolded p53 in plasma samples. The sensor shows a suitable linear range (from 2 to 50 nM) for its application in real blood samples and a very low limit of detection (0.05 nM). The concentration of unfolded p53 has been accurately detected in plasma of elderly people in healthy conditions, subjects with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's Disease (AD) subjects, obtaining results with no significant differences to those provided by an ELISA assay. These results support the possibility of measuring unfolded p53 levels with a cheap, simple and miniaturized device with a promising future for point-of-care applications in the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's dementia. This work has been supported by the FC-15-GRUPIN14-021 project from the Asturias Regional Government and the CTQ2014-58826-R and MINECO-18-CTQ2017-86994-R projects from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO). A trial on different fatty acid supplementation was run in grazing dairy sheep. Forty-eight lactating Sarda ewes were randomly allocated to four homogeneous groups: PAS, control group grazing for 22h/d without supplementation; NOF, group supplemented with a cereal based non-fat enriched concentrate; C182, group supplemented with a concentrate rich in sunflower seeds; and C183, group supplemented with a concentrate rich in linseeds. The results showed that the concentrates, based on oilseeds from both sunflower and linseed sources determined high C18:1 t11 and CLA c9 t11 cheese fat content. Moreover linseeds supplementation improved the concentration in the cheese of other beneficial fatty acids such as LN and PUFAω3

Transcriptomic and splicing changes underlying tomato responses to combined water and nutrient stress

Tomato is a horticultural crop of high economic and nutritional value. Suboptimal environmental conditions, such as limited water and nutrient availability, cause severe yield reductions. Thus, selection of genotypes requiring lower inputs is a goal for the tomato breeding sector. We screened 10 tomato varieties exposed to water deficit, low nitrate or a combination of both. Biometric, physiological and molecular analyses revealed different stress responses among genotypes, identifying T270 as severely affected, and T250 as tolerant to the stresses applied. Investigation of transcriptome changes caused by combined stress in roots and leaves of these two genotypes yielded a low number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in T250 compared to T270, suggesting that T250 tailors changes in gene expression to efficiently respond to combined stress. By contrast, the susceptible tomato activated approximately one thousand and two thousand genes in leaves and roots respectively, indicating a more generalized stress response in this genotype. In particular, developmental and stress-related genes were differentially expressed, such as hormone responsive factors and transcription factors. Analysis of differential alternative splicing (DAS) events showed that combined stress greatly affects the splicing landscape in both genotypes, highlighting the important role of AS in stress response mechanisms. In particular, several stress and growth-related genes as well as transcription and splicing factors were differentially spliced in both tissues. Taken together, these results reveal important insights into the transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms regulating tomato adaptation to growth under reduced water and nitrogen inputs

PRESENCE OF ANISAKIS PEGREFFII IN FARMED SEA BASS ( DICENTRARCHUS LABRAX L.) COMMERCIALIZED IN SOUTHERN ITALY: A FIRST REPORT

We examined 151 European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) samples from farms and fish markets of Sicily (Southern Italy) for Anisakidae larvae detection. All the samples were examined by visual inspection and modified chloro-peptic digestion. Two nematode larvae were found in the viscera of only one European sea bass sample from a farm located in Greece (FAO 37.3), giving a total prevalence of infestation of 0.7%. No other parasites were found after chloro-peptic digestion of the samples. The larvae were morphologically ascribed, at genus level, to morphotypes I and molecularly identified as Anisakis pegreffii. To the best if our knowledge, this is the first report on the presence of anisakid parasites in farmed European sea bass of Mediterranean Sea. Our findings suggest that the risk of exposure to Anisakidae nematodes in farmed European sea bass remains very low. However, further data on Mediterranean farms are needed to have a detailed risk analysis

The etiology of hypertension, especially in pregnancy, is various and complex, involving both genetic and psychological factors. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between depression and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. Its original contribution is to broadly address these types of hypertensive disorders. We conducted an integrative literature review and identified relevant studies from four databases, including MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO and EMBASE. Qualitative and original studies in English, Spanish and Portuguese (Brazilian) published between the years of 2005-2016 were included. Studies were selected by titles, abstracts and full texts, and its quality was evaluated by three researchers independently. Data showed that depression was associated to hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. Women with severe depressive symptoms have higher risk to develop preeclampsia. The use of antidepressants also showed a large association to the hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. Conclusion: Current evidence indicates association between depression and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. Physical care and mental health care of women is essential for a physiological and safe pregnancy. Medicin
