Variação da composição corporal e incidência de lesões em atletas de judo durante um perÃodo de 16 semanas
Dissertação de mestrado apresentada para obtenção do grau de Mestre em Treino Desportivo, na Escola Superior de Desporto e Lazer, do Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo.O treino desportivo é o alicerce para a melhoria do desempenho desportivo ou a performance desportiva de atletas de alto rendimento. Salienta-se que o desempenho / performance desportiva é uma qualidade treinável e dependente de capacidades fÃsicas, fisiológicas e em alguns casos psicossociais. Um dos pilares do desempenho desportivo em atletas federados e de alto rendimento é a composição corporal (massa gorda, massa magra, gordura visceral, perÃmetros e pregas cutâneas) como também os valores antropométricos. Este conhecimento é de bastante relevância em desportos em que o peso ou o alcance dele é determinante para o desempenho do atleta, como, por exemplo na modalidade de judo. Destaca-se a modalidade desportiva de judo, que além destes fatores ligados à composição corporal e antropometria, por ser um desporto de combate que integra a exigência de técnicas como agilidade, potência, velocidade, coordenação motora e a mais importante das valências a força fÃsica, faz com que haja predisposição a lesões músculo-esqueléticas (LEM). Através de uma amostra reduzida de jovens atletas federados da modalidade de judo que foram submetidos a um protocolo de treino de força durante 16 semanas, concluÃmos que o treino de força apresenta elevada repercussão na composição corporal do atleta. E a nÃvel de LEM a principal incidência está nas lesões recidivas, principalmente no sexo feminino.Sports training is the foundation for improving sports performance or the sports performance of high-performance athletes. We emphasize that performance / sports performance is a trainable quality and dependent on physical, physiological and in some cases psychosocial resources. Through a reduced sample of young federated athletes of the judo modality who were manifested to a strength training protocol for 16 weeks, we concluded that strength training had a high impact on the athlete's body composition. And in terms of musculoskeletal injuries, the main incidence is in recurrent injuries, mainly in females

The OBAA Standard for Developing Repositories of Learning Objects: the Case of Ocean Literacy in Azores
This paper describes the existing web resources of learning objects to promote ocean
literacy. The several projects and sites are explored, and the shortcomings revealed. The
limitations identified include insufficient metadata about registered learning objects and
lack of support for intelligent applications. As solution, we promote the seaThings project
that relies on a multi-disciplinary approach to promote literacy in the marine environment
by implementing a specific Learning Objects repositories (LOR) and a federation of
repositories (FED), supported by a OBAA, a versatile and innovative standard that will
provide the necessary support for intelligent applications for education purposes, to be used

Rarity of monodominance in hyperdiverse Amazonian forests.
Tropical forests are known for their high diversity. Yet, forest patches do occur in the tropics where a single tree species is dominant. Such "monodominant" forests are known from all of the main tropical regions. For Amazonia, we sampled the occurrence of monodominance in a massive, basin-wide database of forest-inventory plots from the Amazon Tree Diversity Network (ATDN). Utilizing a simple defining metric of at least half of the trees ≥ 10 cm diameter belonging to one species, we found only a few occurrences of monodominance in Amazonia, and the phenomenon was not significantly linked to previously hypothesized life history traits such wood density, seed mass, ectomycorrhizal associations, or Rhizobium nodulation. In our analysis, coppicing (the formation of sprouts at the base of the tree or on roots) was the only trait significantly linked to monodominance. While at specific locales coppicing or ectomycorrhizal associations may confer a considerable advantage to a tree species and lead to its monodominance, very few species have these traits. Mining of the ATDN dataset suggests that monodominance is quite rare in Amazonia, and may be linked primarily to edaphic factors
