Numerous studies determined that the neutrophil/lymphocyte (NLR) and platelet/lymphocyte ratios (PLR) had prognostic value in several cancer types. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between NLR and PLR values with the survival time of lung cancer patients. Patients diagnosed with lung cancer between January 2014 and December 2016, were retrospectively evaluated. Demographic characteristics, disease stages, laboratory parameters recorded, and the relationship of NLR and PLR values with the survival time and the disease stage evaluated. NLR and PLR were categorized into two groups. SPSS 17.0 software package was used for the statistical analysis. ROC analysis, Student T-test, Chi-square, and Mann-Whitney U test were used. Mean age of 62±8 years were included in the study. In the NSCLC group, the average NLR and PLR values were 4±3.35 and 194.6±144.4 respectively. Regarding the NSCLC group, the overall survival time was shorter in the subgroup with an NLR >3.43 (13.1 months) compared to the subgroup with an NLR ≤3.43 (24.3 months). The mean survival time was shorter in the group with a PLR > 136.9 compared to the group with a PLR ≤136.9 (15.9 and 24.6 months respectively). Subgroups consisting of survivors and non-survivors in the NSCLC group showed a statistically significant difference considering neutrophil and lymphocyte count, CRP, NLR, and PLR values (

During an apnea, hemodynamic complications such as hypoxemia, a rise in systemic and pulmonary arterial pressure, and changes in heart rate occur in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Potential mechanisms of OSA-associated renal dysfunction include renal hypoxia, hypertension, endothelial dysfunction. Hypertension is common in patients with OSA. This study aims to assess OSA patients' renal functions and investigate the creatinine clearance (CC) values across OSA patients with and without hypertension. The study included 530 individuals with OSA and 60 individuals with an apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) of 0.05). A statistically significant difference was detected in urea and creatinine levels between the OSA and control groups (p=0.005; p=0.012). Creatinine clearance decreases in patients with OSA in the presence of HT. Patients with OSA often experience cardiovascular disorders, and glomerular endothelial dysfunction occurs in OSA patients

The purpose of this study is to measure the basic accountancy knowledge of entrepreneurs in Tokat Organized Industrial Site (OIS) and it is also aimed at determining the tax treatment knowledge level of entrepreneurs. In line with this purpose, a questionnaire was implemented to the operating firms in Tokat Organized Industrial Site ( OIS ). In consequence of the questionnaire and analysis, with regard to the implementations of entrepreneur-accountancy knowledge relevancy; while there were no significant differences among the following variables such as gender, educational level, position, there were significant differences among the following variables such as age and work experience. In addition to the above-mentioned results, according to the result of the knowledge implementation questionnaire, there were no significant differences among age, gender, educational level, position and work experience. The evaluation of open-ended questions was examined with details in the conclusion of the study.peer-reviewe

Comprehensibility of Universal Healthcare Symbols for Wayfinding in Healthcare Facilities

Healthcare facilities are often complex and overwhelming for visitors, and wayfinding in healthcare facilities can be challenging. As there is an increasing number of global citizens who travel to seek medical care in another country, it is critical to make wayfinding easy for visitors who are not familiar with the language in a foreign country. Among many wayfinding aids, symbols are helpful for those visitors who have limited ability to understand written language. This study tested universal healthcare symbols in the United States, South Korea, and Turkey to compare the comprehension of symbols cross-country and identify predictors of the correct comprehension. To explore statistically significant relationships between symbol comprehension and countries, Pearson\u27s Chi-square tests, logistic regression, and ANOVA were conducted. The test results showed that ten symbols among 14 tested have significant relationship with countries. Results of this study demonstrate that symbol comprehension can be varied significantly in different countries

Typical Rett Syndrome in a young boy with hemizygous c.316C>T mutation in MECP2 gene

Mutations in the Methyl-CpG-binding protein 2 (MECP2) gene have been implicated in the etiology of Rett syndrome (RTT), a neurodevelopmental disorder that primarily affects girls. MECP2 mutations in males, once thought to be lethal, are now recognized with a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations. Here we report a 3-year-old boy who presented with developmental problems and regression and eventually was diagnosed with RTT that genetic analysis revealed to be a hemizygous c.316C>T missense mutation in the MECP2 gene suggesting somatic mosaicism with the normal 46,XY karyotype. DNA analysis of the patient’s mother showed this either to be a de novo mutation or a case of gonadal mosaicism. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of RTT in a young boy with a hemizygous c.316C>T mutation in the MECP2 gene
