The vehicle routing problem and its intersection with cross-docking

To close a gap identified in the vehicle routing academic literature a theoretical link is established between the Vehicle Routing Problem and Cross Docking. A model for the vehicle routing problem with shipment consolidation (VRPC), in which vehicles can consolidate cargo among one another at a customer’s location, is presented. With shipment consolidation, vehicles can deliver product to a customer, transfer product to another vehicle, or both. Three main models are proposed: the vehicle routing problem with shipment consolidation (VRPC) which improves routing performance by allowing vehicles to consolidate cargo at any customer site; a metaheuristic to explore the effects of the VRPC over large scale problems; and the Vehicle Routing Problem with Shipment Consolidation and Time Windows (VRPCTW) to further study the proposed concept under extended, more constrained circumstances. Computational experiments are developed and solved to optimality where possible using OPL and Java in conjunction with CPLEX and show that the proposed concept of shipment consolidation can provide significant savings in objective function value when compared to previously published models

Stress and sex determination in fish: From brain to Gonads

Fish present remarkable malleability regarding gonadal sex fate. This phenotypic plasticity enables an organism to adapt to changes in the environment by responding with different phenotypes. The gonad and the brain present this extraordinary plasticity. These organs are involved in the response to environmental stressors to direct gonadal fate, inducing sex change or sex reversal in hermaphroditic and gonochoristic fish, respectively. The presence of such molecular and endocrine plasticity gives this group a large repertoire of possibilities against a continuously changing environment, resulting in the highest radiation of reproduction strategies described in vertebrates. In this review, we provide a broad and comparative view of tremendous radiation of sex determination mechanisms to direct gonadal fate. New results have established that the driving mechanism involves early response to environmental stressors by the brain plus high plasticity of gonadal differentiation and androgens as by-products of stress inactivation. In addition to the stress axis, two other major axes – the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis and the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis, which are well known for their participation in the regulation of reproduction – have been proposed to reinforce brain-gonadal interrelationships in the fate of the gonad.Fil: Castañeda Cortes, Diana Carolina. Frecuencia de depresión en pacientes post infarto agudo de miocardio al momento del evento isquémico y a los tres meses. Hospital Militar Central

Este trabajo tiene como propósito presentar los resultados de un estudio piloto en el que se mostrarán los casos de depresión tras un infarto agudo de miocardio en dos momentos distintos. Al tiempo de suceder el evento isquémico y a los tres meses de haber sucedido éste. Además verificar la funcionalidad miocárdica en ambos momentos. Se tomó como población de referencia los pacientes con Infarto Agudo de Miocardio entre noviembre de 2007 y mayo de 2008. De 30 personas elegibles, cinco no aceptaron participar en el estudio y dos personas más fueron excluidas por presentar demencia asociada. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 23 personas que cumplían por lo menos dos de los tres criterios diagnósticos de Infarto Agudo de Miocardio al momento de su ingreso a cardiologí
