Hamiltonian Multivector Fields and Poisson Forms in Multisymplectic Field Theory
We present a general classification of Hamiltonian multivector fields and of
Poisson forms on the extended multiphase space appearing in the geometric
formulation of first order classical field theories. This is a prerequisite for
computing explicit expressions for the Poisson bracket between two Poisson

The Z=82 shell closure in neutron-deficient Pb isotopes
Recent mass measurements show a substantial weakening of the binding energy
difference delta_{2p} (Z,N) = E(Z-2,N) - 2 E(Z,N) + E(Z+2,N) in the
neutron-deficient Pb isotopes. As delta_{2p} is often attributed to the size of
the proton magic gap, it might be speculated that the reduction in delta_{2p}
is related to a weakening of the spherical Z=82 shell. We demonstrate that the
observed trend is described quantitatively by self-consistent mean-field models
in terms of deformed ground states of Hg and Po isotopes.Comment: submitted to Eur. Phys. J.
Ultrathin epitaxial Fe films in vicinal GaAs(001): A study by spin-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy
Thin epitaxial Fe films have been grown on vicinal GaAs(001) substrates and their remanent magnetic properties and the degree of substrate atom diffusion investigated using synchrotron-based photoelectron spectroscopy. The vicinal Fe films, though exhibiting greater As diffusion than their singular homologues, displayed better film quality both from the structural and the magnetic points of view. The spin-resolved valence spectra of the vicinal films resemble those for crystalline bulk Fe at lower film thicknesses than for singular films
Compressibility of and (M = Rh, Ir and Co) Compounds
The lattice parameters of the tetragonal compounds CeIn and
CeIn(Rh, Ir and Co) have been studied as a function of
pressure up to 15 GPa using a diamond anvil cell under both hydrostatic and
quasihydrostatic conditions at room temperature. The addition of In
layers to the parent CeIn compound is found to stiffen the lattice as the
2-layer systems (average of bulk modulus values is 70.4 GPa) have a
larger than CeIn (67 GPa), while the 1-layer systems with the are
even stiffer (average of is 81.4 GPa). Estimating the hybridization
using parameters from tight binding calculations shows that the dominant
hybridization is in nature between the Ce and In atoms. The values of
at the pressure where the superconducting transition temperature
reaches a maximum is the same for all CeIn compounds. By
plotting the maximum values of the superconducting transition temperature
versus for the studied compounds and Pu-based superconductors, we
find a universal versus behavior when these quantities are
normalized appropriately. These results are consistent with magnetically

TESTS AND ESTIMATORS OF MULTIPLICATIVE MODELS FOR VARIETY TRIALS
Some recently obtained results on cross validation, hypothesis test and estimation procedures for multiplicative models applied to multi-site crop variety trials are presented. The PRESS statistic is more sensitive to overfitting and choice of model form than data-splitting cross-validation. Because of their extreme liberality, Gollob F-tests should not be used to test multiplicative terms. FGH tests effectively control Type I error, but are conservative for tests of terms for which the previous term is small. Simulation tests have greater power than FGH tests, but still effectively control Type I error rates. Simulation results and cross validation in two examples suggest that BLUP style shrinkage estimators of multiplicative terms produce fitted models with predictive value at least as good as the best truncated models and would eliminate the need for cross validation as a criterion for model choice. Shrinkage estimators of multiplicative models were better than BLUPs computed under the assumption of random unpatterened interaction in one example and were at least as good in the second example. Both were much better than empirical cell means in both examples. It is suggested that variety performance estimates derived from shrinkage estimators of multiplicative models should replace empirical cell means routinely reported in experiment station crop variety trial bulletins
