Characterizing Scales of Genetic Recombination and Antibiotic Resistance in Pathogenic Bacteria Using Topological Data Analysis
Pathogenic bacteria present a large disease burden on human health. Control
of these pathogens is hampered by rampant lateral gene transfer, whereby
pathogenic strains may acquire genes conferring resistance to common
antibiotics. Here we introduce tools from topological data analysis to
characterize the frequency and scale of lateral gene transfer in bacteria,
focusing on a set of pathogens of significant public health relevance. As a
case study, we examine the spread of antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus
aureus. Finally, we consider the possible role of the human microbiome as a

Magneto-Transport Properties of Doped RuSrGdCuO
RuSrGdCuO, in which magnetic order and superconductivity coexist
with , is a complex material which poses new and
important questions to our understanding of the interplay between magnetic and
superconducting (SC) order. Resistivity, Hall effect and thermopower
measurements on sintered ceramic RuSrGdCuO are presented, together
with results on a broad range of substituted analogues. The Hall effect and
thermopower both show anomalous decreases below which may be
explained within a simple two-band model by a transition from localized to more

Shape Invariant Potential and Semi-Unitary Transformations (SUT) for Supersymmetric Harmonic Oscillator in T4-Space
Constructing the Semi - Unitary Transformation (SUT) to obtain the
supersymmetric partner Hamiltonians for a one dimensional harmonic oscillator,
it has been shown that under this transformation the supersymmetric partner
loses its ground state in T^{4}- space while its eigen functions constitute a
complete orthonormal basis in a subspace of full Hilbert space.

The effects of grain shape and frustration in a granular column near jamming
We investigate the full phase diagram of a column of grains near jamming, as
a function of varying levels of frustration. Frustration is modelled by the
effect of two opposing fields on a grain, due respectively to grains above and
below it. The resulting four dynamical regimes (ballistic, logarithmic,
activated and glassy) are characterised by means of the jamming time of
zero-temperature dynamics, and of the statistics of attractors reached by the
latter. Shape effects are most pronounced in the cases of strong and weak
frustration, and essentially disappear around a mean-field point.Comment: 17 pages, 19 figure
The palliative care needs and experiences of people with advanced head and neck cancer: a scoping review
Background:
The palliative care needs of people with advanced head and neck cancer pose unique complexities due to the impact the illness has on eating, speaking, appearance and breathing. Examining these needs would help provide guidance about developing relevant models of care and identify gaps in research knowledge.
Aim:
To identify and map out the palliative care needs and experiences for people with advanced head and neck cancer.
Design:
A scoping literature review following the methods described by the Joanna Briggs Institute.
Data sources:
An electronic search of the literature was undertaken in MEDLINE (Ovid), EMBASE and CINAHL covering the years January 1996 to January 2019.
Results:
People with advanced head and neck cancer often had palliative care needs but there was variability in the timing and access to relevant services. A high prevalence of interventions, for example hospital admissions were needed even during the last month of life. This was not necessarily negated with early engagement of palliative care. Dissonance between patients and family carers about information needs and decision-making was an additional complexity. Studies tended to be descriptive in nature, and often involved a single centre.
Conclusion:
This scoping review demonstrates the complexity of care for people with advanced head and neck cancer and the issues related to the current healthcare systems. Focus on appropriate referral criteria, increased integration and coordination of care and robust evaluation of specific care components seems key. Linkage between research and service design delivery across teams, disciplines and care settings seems pertinent
Coherent states for exactly solvable potentials
A general algebraic procedure for constructing coherent states of a wide
class of exactly solvable potentials e.g., Morse and P{\"o}schl-Teller, is
given. The method, {\it a priori}, is potential independent and connects with
earlier developed ones, including the oscillator based approaches for coherent
states and their generalizations. This approach can be straightforwardly
extended to construct more general coherent states for the quantum mechanical
potential problems, like the nonlinear coherent states for the oscillators. The
time evolution properties of some of these coherent states, show revival and
fractional revival, as manifested in the autocorrelation functions, as well as,
