    Personality in Healthcare Human Robot Interaction (H-HRI): A Literature Review and Brief Critique

    Robots are becoming an important way to deliver health care, and personality is vital to understanding their effectiveness. Despite this, there is a lack of a systematic overarching understanding of personality in health care human robot interaction (H-HRI). To address this, the authors conducted a review that identified 18 studies on personality in H-HRI. This paper presents the results of that systematic literature review. Insights are derived from this review regarding the methodologies, outcomes, and samples utilized. The authors of this review discuss findings across this literature while identifying several gaps worthy of attention.     Noise reduction studies for the OV-1 airplane

    A study has been conducted to define possible modifications to the OV-1 aircraft to reduce its aural detection distance. This effort involved documenting the noise characteristics of the airplane, devising modifications to reduce the noise, estimating the reduction in detection distance, and evaluating aircraft performance as a result of these modifications. It was found that the main noise source on this aircraft is the propeller and hence modifications only to the propeller and the propeller drive system are proposed. Modifications involving only the propeller are noted to involve no increase in weight but they result in only a modest decrease in aural detection distance. In order to obtain substantial decreases in aural detection distance, modifications involving changes both to the propeller and the engine-propeller gearing are required

    Understanding Deleted File Decay on Removable Media using Differential Analysis

    Digital content created by picture recording devices is often stored internally on the source device, on either embedded or removable media. Such storage media is typically limited in capacity and meant primarily for interim storage of the most recent image files, and these devices are frequently configured to delete older files as necessary to make room for new files. When investigations involve such devices and media, it is sometimes these older deleted files that would be of interest. It is an established fact that deleted file content may persist in part or in its entirety after deletion, and identifying the nature of file fragments on digital media has been an active research area for years. However, very little research has been conducted to understand how and why deleted file content persists (or decays) on different media and under different circumstances. The research reported here builds upon prior work establishing a methodology for the study of deleted file decay generally, and the application of that methodology to the decay of deleted files on traditional computing systems with spinning magnetic disks. In this current work, we study the decay of deleted image files on a digital camera with removable SD card storage, and we conduct preliminary experiments for direct SD card and USB storage. Our results indicate that deleted file decay is affected by the size of both the deleted and overwriting files, overwrite frequency, sector size, and cluster size. These results have implications for digital forensic investigators seeking to recover and interpret file fragments

    Search for optimal distance spectrum convolutional codes

    In order to communicate reliably and to reduce the required transmitter power, NASA uses coded communication systems on most of their deep space satellites and probes (e.g. Pioneer, Voyager, Galileo, and the TDRSS network). These communication systems use binary convolutional codes. Better codes make the system more reliable and require less transmitter power. However, there are no good construction techniques for convolutional codes. Thus, to find good convolutional codes requires an exhaustive search over the ensemble of all possible codes. In this paper, an efficient convolutional code search algorithm was implemented on an IBM RS6000 Model 580. The combination of algorithm efficiency and computational power enabled us to find, for the first time, the optimal rate 1/2, memory 14, convolutional code
