Restoring Gait And Functional Mobility For A Patient With An Ischemic Stroke Through Physical Therapy: A Case Report
During an ischemic stroke, blood flow is impeded due to blocked artery. Stroke is the 5th leading cause of death and the primary cause of disability and dependency in adults in the United States. Patient age and stroke severity, size, and location are strong predictors in prognosis. Stroke rehabilitation during the first three months can reduce mortality. The purpose of this case report is to provide physical therapy management strategies used during an inpatient stay for a patient who experienced an ischemic stroke.https://dune.une.edu/pt_studcrposter/1101/thumbnail.jp
Pediatric ADHD and Screening for Comorbidities
Psychiatric disorders are very common in the general pediatric population. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common psychiatric diagnosis in childhood but can mimic and be found comorbidity with other psychiatric disorders. It is necessary for primary care providers to perform a thorough initial workup for ADHD and possible comorbidity psychiatric disorders to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment of pediatric patients
Review: Ăine Humble & M. Elise Radina (Eds.) (2019). How Qualitative Data Analysis Happens: Moving Beyond "Themes Emerged"
In this article I offer a review of HUMBLE and RADINA's 2019 book, "How Qualitative Data Analysis Happens: Moving Beyond 'Themes Emerged'," a collection of commentaries from qualitative researchers discussing their approaches to data analysis. The editors describe the goal of this work as an attempt to lift the veil on research practices typically shrouded by space limitations in academic publications. Considered from the perspective of a new researcher, I examine the ways in which this book may support emerging scholars in their qualitative research work
Haiti Funders Forum: Feasibility Study
The Hauser Institute conducted a new study exploring the value, parameters, and sustainability of a Haiti Funders Forum. In collaboration with The Haiti Fund at the Boston Foundation and with support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, researchers Paula Johnson and Colleen Kelly conducted a series of conversations with funder network leaders, individual interviews with Haiti funders, and a survey of a broad range of funders and other constituents to analyze and assess the potential activities and operational issues of a forum. The creation of a Haiti Funders Forum would aim to increase the effectiveness of philanthropy in Haiti by promoting information sharing, networking, and collaboration among grantmakers and social investors and through advocacy for increased philanthropy to and within the country. The report summarizes the findings and makes recommendations on a Forum's values, mission, and goals; functions and activities; and institutional and operational aspects
Placing Women's Voices in the Centre of a Strategy for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse: Speaking from Our Strengths
The premise for this paper is both basic and profound: survivors of child sexual abuse have the knowledge, experience, and perspective to lead in the efforts to stop it. It describes a draft strategy to prevent child sexual abuse, placing survivors at the core of the plan, that was generated at a two day gathering for female survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
Discovering the District: A Look at the history of Downtown Columbia
Our project began in late January 2009. We took a walk through the streets of downtown Columbia admiring each building and wondering what stories they had to tell. After much consideration, we chose the Tiger Hotel, the Missouri Theatre, and Booche's. We felt these buildings not only contained a social significance, but also a cultural history that we were unaware of until now
Factors relating to home telehealth acceptance and usage compliance
Aim: This paper investigates the acceptance of in-home telehealth by frail older adults and carers of the Transition Care Program (TCP), and evaluates telehealth acceptance as a predictor for usage compliance.
Method: A stratified random sample of participants was allocated to one of five groups: either a control group or to receive telehealth monitoring of their vital signs for a period of 12 or 24 weeks; with or without a medical alarm pendant.
Results: Before being trained in and using telehealth, the majority of participants and carers demonstrated acceptance of the technology by reporting that they perceived it would be âusefulâ and âeasy to use.â This acceptance was also reported post-TCP (up to 12 weeks of usage). The âperceived ease of useâ of the telehealth equipment increased significantly from pre-telehealth training and usage to post-TCP (up to 12 weeks of usage) (P = 0.001). There was no change, (pre-training and usage to post-TCP) in the âperceived usefulnessâ of the telehealth equipment. The telehealth acceptance constructs of âease of useâ and âusefulness,â at pre-telehealth training and usage, approached statistical significance as a predictor of future compliance (P = 0.06). âPerceived ease of use,â at pre-training and usage, had a positive relationship with future compliance (P = 0.02).
Conclusion: There is currently limited knowledge about the influences and determinants of home telehealth compliance in frail older people and their carers, potentially a significant user group for the technology into the future. This studyâs finding that frail older people and their carers perceive that home telehealth is useful and easy to use demonstrates their acceptance of home telehealth as a therapeutic tool. Further, perceived ease of use of home telehealth is a significant predictor of compliance with frail older people and their carersâ use of home telehealth. Additional research is required in order to identify other influences and determinants of home telehealth compliance with this group. Knowledge about the influences and determinants of home telehealth compliance may assist the development of targeted interventions aimed at encouraging high compliance with users who are recording lower reading rates
