A model of Mira's cometary head/tail entering the Local Bubble
We model the cometary structure around Mira as the interaction of an AGB wind
from Mira A, and a streaming environment. Our simulations introduce the
following new element: we assume that after 200 kyr of evolution in a dense
environment Mira entered the Local Bubble (low density coronal gas). As Mira
enters the bubble, the head of the comet expands quite rapidly, while the tail
remains well collimated for a 100 kyr timescale. The result is a
broad-head/narrow-tail structure that resembles the observed morphology of
Mira's comet. The simulations were carried out with our new adaptive grid code

Analysis of OPM potentials for multiplet states of 3d transition metal atoms
We apply the optimized effective potential method (OPM) to the multiplet
energies of the 3d transition metal atoms, where the orbital dependence of
the energy functional with respect to orbital wave function is the
single-configuration HF form. We find that the calculated OPM exchange
potential can be represented by the following two forms. Firstly, the
difference between OPM exchange potentials of the multiplet states can be
approximated by the linear combination of the potentials derived from the
Slater integrals and for the average
energy of the configuration. Secondly, the OPM exchange potential can be
expressed as the linear combination of the OPM exchange potentials of the

Modeling the high-energy emission in GRB 110721A and implications on the early multiwavelength and polarimetric observations
GRB 110721A was detected by the Gamma-ray Burst Monitor and the Large Area
Telescope (LAT) onboard the Fermi satellite and the Gamma-ray Burst Polarimeter
onboard the IKAROS solar mission. Previous analysis done of this burst showed:
i) a linear polarization signal with position angle stable () and high degree of , ii) an extreme peak
energy of a record-breaking at 152 MeV, and iii) a subdominant prompt
thermal component observed right after the onset of this burst. In this paper,
the LAT data around the reported position of GRB 110721A are analysed with the
most recent software and then, the LAT light curve above 100 MeV was obtained.
The LAT light curve is modelled in terms of adiabatic early-afterglow external
shocks when the outflow propagates into a stellar wind. Additionally, we
discuss the possible origins and also study the implications of the
early-afterglow external shocks on the extreme peak energy observed at 152
MeV, the polarization observations and the subdominant prompt thermal

Design and implementation of the OFELIA FP7 facility: The European OpenFlow testbed
The growth of the Internet in terms of number of devices, the number of networks associated to each device and the mobility of devices and users makes the operation and management of the Internet network infrastructure a very complex challenge. In order to address this challenge, innovative solutions and ideas must be tested and evaluated in real network environments and not only based on simulations or laboratory setups.
OFELIA is an European FP7 project and its main objective is to address the aforementioned challenge by building and operating a multi-layer, multi-technology and geographically distributed Future Internet testbed facility, where the network itself is precisely controlled and programmed by the experimenter using the emerging OpenFlow technology. This paper reports on the work done during the first half of the project, the lessons learned as well as the key advantages of the OFELIA facility for developing and testing new networking ideas.
An overview on the challenges that have been faced on the design and implementation of the testbed facility is described, including the OFELIA Control Framework testbed management software. In addition, early operational experience of the facility since it was opened to the general public, providing five different testbeds or islands, is described
Convergence of IP-based and optical transport networks
Today Network and Service Providers are aware of the increasing data traffic volumes and as such they are strategically moving investigations toward a single integrated voice and data infrastructure. In this context IP is gaining the role of the integration layer for multiple services. Nevetheless incumbent NSPs that build a multi-service IP network are going to need connectivity to its preexisting legacy networks (e.g. ATM. SONET, SDH). This reason motivates the introduction of a client-independent Optical Transport Network (OTN) as a missing link to guarantee a smooth evolution from legacy networks to a data-centric OTN. The scope of this paper is to give some guidelines about the definition of functionality and architectures of a multilayers infrastructure supporting the transport of data and circuit-based services. Particularly, the identification of the different service requirements, as well as the understanding of the allowed degradation, provide a picture of the needed survivability mechanism of IP over OTN scenarios

Origin and evolution of the octoploid strawberry genome.
Cultivated strawberry emerged from the hybridization of two wild octoploid species, both descendants from the merger of four diploid progenitor species into a single nucleus more than 1 million years ago. Here we report a near-complete chromosome-scale assembly for cultivated octoploid strawberry (FragariaâĂâananassa) and uncovered the origin and evolutionary processes that shaped this complex allopolyploid. We identified the extant relatives of each diploid progenitor species and provide support for the North American origin of octoploid strawberry. We examined the dynamics among the four subgenomes in octoploid strawberry and uncovered the presence of a single dominant subgenome with significantly greater gene content, gene expression abundance, and biased exchanges between homoeologous chromosomes, as compared with the other subgenomes. Pathway analysis showed that certain metabolomic and disease-resistance traits are largely controlled by the dominant subgenome. These findings and the reference genome should serve as a powerful platform for future evolutionary studies and enable molecular breeding in strawberry
Parameterized optimized effective potential for atoms
The optimized effective potential equations for atoms have been solved by
parameterizing the potential. The expansion is tailored to fulfill the known
asymptotic behavior of the effective potential at both short and long
distances. Both single configuration and multi configuration trial wave
functions are implemented. Applications to several atomic systems are presented
improving previous works. The results here obtained are very close to those
calculated in either the Hartree-Fock and the multi configurational
