International audienceSince 2005, public policy in France has strongly been encouraging young people with disabilities inclusion within the regular school system. This has found a direct application through technical innovation, intended to help students being more independent within their learning activities. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to underline the manner in which using assistive information and communication technologies may improve the inclusive education for people with disabilities. The case study we present underlines the complexity of the social world into which the use of a precise assistive tool takes it place

3D face recognition evaluation on expressive faces using the IV2 database

    No full text
International audienceThe purpose of this paper is to study the influence of face expressions on the performance of a 3D face recognition algorithm. Three facial surface matching based algorithms, namely ICP, Localized ICP (L-ICP) and Region-based ICP (R-ICP), are benchmarked on several sets of data : the two first sets with neutral faces and the last with expressive ones. Results show that the R-ICP algorithm provides more robustness to face expression verification than the two other approache

In the frame of the lead-bismuth eutectic cooled fast reactors, the thermal behaviour of bismuth(III) uranate(VI) was studied as a possible product of the interaction of the coolant and mixed oxide fuel. Therefore, the thermal expansion and the heat capacity of Bi2UO6 were measured and presented here for the first time. The thermodynamic functions derived at T = 298.15 K are Cp(298.15 K) = 185.1 JK-1mol-1, So(239.15 K) = 238.8 JK-1mol-1, and {Ho(298.15 K)-Ho(0 K)} = 34863 Jmol-1.JRC.E.4-Nuclear Fuel Safet

2D face recognition in the IV 2 evaluation campaign

    No full text
International audienceIn this paper, the first evaluation campaign on 2D-face images using the multimodal IV 2 database is presented. The five appearance-based algorithms in competition are evaluated on four experimental protocols, including experiments with challenging illumination and pose variabilities. The results confirm the advantages of the Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) and the importance of the training set for the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) based approaches. The experiments show the robustness of the Gabor based approach combined with LDA, in order to cope with challenging face recognition conditions. This evaluation shows the interest and the richness of the IV 2 multimodal database

A 27Al NMR study of Actinides compounds at low Temperatures: AnPd5Al2 and AnAl2 systems

The recent increase of studies of actinides and specifically transuranium elements and compounds using microscopic probe techniques (EELS, RIX, XMCD, NQR-NMR) has shed a new light on our understanding of the basic properties of nuclear materials. These advances have been motivated also by the interest raised by the discovery of new superconductors based on transuranium compounds such as PuCoGa5 and NpPd5Al2 which stand for archetypes of 5f transuranium superconductors displaying exotic features. For instance, the unconventional nature of superconductivity in PuCoGa5 and NpPd5Al2 has been revealed by NQR experiments. Here we report a NMR study at low temperature of single crystals of CePd5Al2, the cerium counterpart of NpPd5Al2, presenting Kondo lattice features with two antiferromagnetic transitions at TN1 = 3.9 K and TN2 = 2.7 K, respectively. This compound becomes superconductor under pressure and displays a lot of similarities with PuPd5Al2, which is an antiferromagnet below TN = 5.1 K. We will report also a low temperature basic properties study of a ferromagnetic system presenting localised features, namely NpAl2.JRC.E.6-Actinide researc

Thermophysical Characterization of ZrN and (Zr, Pu) N

Nitride compounds are currently considered as possible fuels for advanced nuclear reactors. Among the relevant properties to be investigated, thermophysical quantities such as heat capacity and thermal diffusivity/ conductivity are key to ensure safe operation of the fuel in the reactor. Both physical and chemical phenomenological experimental activities are included in this effort. The experimental procedures were optimizedto limit oxidation ofmaterials in presence of even small quantities of oxygen and moisture, especially during the measurements at high temperature. Heat capacity and thermal diffusivity/conductivity were measured for ZrN and (Zr,Pu)N compounds. A consistent set of results was obtained from low- and high-temperature Cp measurements for both materials. The excess Cp of solution was estimated. Increasing trends with temperature were observed for the thermal diffusivity and conductivity of both materials in the temperature range considered, confirming the metallic behavior of this class of materials. The presence of Pu causes an almost constant decrease of the thermal conductivity compared to the pure ZrN matrix.JRC.E.4-Nuclear fuel
