Avaliação clĂnica de inlays e onlays confeccionadas com dois tipos de cerĂąmica, apĂłs 06 meses
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical performance of two types of ceramics: a slurry-powder ceramic (Duceram Plus, Degussa) - D and a hot-pressed leucite-based glass-ceramic (IPS Empress, Ivoclar Vivadent) - IPS. Eighty-six restorations, 44 IPS and 42 D, were made by one operator. A total of 33 onlays and 53 inlays on twenty-seven premolars and 59 molars were cemented in 35 patients of both sexes, mean age 35 years. All restorations were cemented with the dual-resin cement (Variolink, Ivoclar-Vivadent) under rubber dam and were evaluated at the baseline and after six months, using the modified U.S.P.H.S. criteria for postoperative sensitivity, secondary caries, fracture, color match, marginal discoloration, marginal integrity and surface texture. Additionally radiographs and intraoral photographs were carried out. At baseline 86 restorations were analyzed and all of them received Alfa rating, except for the following that received Bravo rating for postoperative sensitivity - IPS (2.27%); D (7.14%); for color match - IPS (2.27%); D (2.38%) and for surface texture - IPS (2.27%); D (11.90%). After 6 months 100% of the restorations were analyzed and the following received Bravo rating: color match - IPS (4.55%) and D (9.52%); surface texture - IPS (2.27%) and D (11.9%); marginal discoloration - IPS (6.82%) and D (4.76%) and marginal integrity - IPS (4.55%) and D (7.14%). The results were submitted to the Fisher and McNemar Statistical Tests. No significant differences were noticed between the two ceramics. Both ceramics demonstrated satisfactory clinical performance after six months.
Adaptation and convergence in circadianârelated genes in Iberian freshwater fish
The circadian clock is a biological timing system that improves the ability of organisms to deal with environmental fluctuations. At the molecular level it consists of a network of transcription-translation feedback loops, involving genes that activate (bmal and clock - positive loop) and repress expression (cryptochrome (cry) and period (per)Â -Â negative loop). This is regulated by daily alternations of light but can also be affected by temperature. Fish, as ectothermic, depend on the environmental temperature and thus are good models to study its integration within the circadian system. Here, we studied the molecular evolution of circadian genes in four Squalius freshwater fish species, distributed across Western Iberian rivers affected by two climatic types with different environmental conditions (e.g., light and temperature). S. carolitertii and S. pyrenaicus inhabit the colder northern region under Atlantic climate type, while S. torgalensis, S. aradensis and some populations of S. pyrenaicus inhabit the warmer southern region affected by summer droughts, under Mediterranean climate type.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Thermal analysis evaluation of mechanical properties changes promoted by gamma radiation on surgical polymeric textiles
The large number of surgical operations with pos-operative infection problems and the appearing of new infectious diseases, contribute to the development of new materials in order to answer the needs of health care services. This development must take into account the modifications promoted by sterilisation methods in materials, namely by gamma radiation.
The Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetry (TGA) techniques show that a nonwoven and a laminate textiles maintain a good molecular cohesion, do not showing high levels of degradation, for gamma radiation dose values lower than 100 kGy in nonwoven and 200 kGy in laminate materials.
The tensile strength and the elongation decrease slowly for the nonwoven textile and decrease faster for the laminate textile for 25 and 80 kGy absorbed dose.
This paper shows that the DSC and TGA techniques can be helpful for the prevision of mechanical changes occurred in the materials as a consequence of the gamma irradiation
Sustainable design of prefabricated solutions for the rehabilitation of ancient buildings
"Green design, materials and manufacturing processes", ISBN 978-1-138-00046-9A wood-based âkit-of-partsâ for the rehabilitation of existing buildings is under development. The aim is to merge the benefits of the standardized manufacture, with the flexibility needed to suit the specific requirements of the built heritage. The proposed system should be reversible, flexible and adaptable, while ensuring the adequate structural, thermal and acoustic performances. Mechanical joints, reversible if possible, should be used for the connections with the existing construction. Light solutions, allowing on site adjustment and future material separation are preferable. The research project presented in this paper is part of "WoodenQuark n.Âș 2011/21635" from the Portu-guese financing programme "Quadro de ReferĂȘncia EstratĂ©gico Nacional".

Franchising - Iberian companies internationalization
A study has been made for the internationalization of the franchising Iberian
companies. Our aim was to analyze the most important variables for the internationalization.
We studied it using several statistical methods applied to the answers given by companies to a questionnaire. We have concluded that are some relevant variables to be considered in the internationalization such as age, dimension, bond, dispersion, structure of the network and some variable connected with environment and motivational factors
Anti-commons: fisheries problems and bureaucracy in aquaculture
Anti-Commons and bureaucracy have been linked since the study of Buchanan &
Yoon (2000). Bureaucracy involves a set of agents that have a deciding power. Conflicting interests, the decision makers inertia or the inertia of the system itself, excessive administrative procedures or excessive administrative circuits push too late decisions, or for non-rational
decisions in terms of value creation for economic agents. Property Rights Theory explains new concerns. Considering that an âanti-commonsâ problem arises when there are multiple rights to exclude, the problem of decision process in aquaculture projects makes sense at this level.
However, little attention has been given to the setting where more than one person is assigned with exclusion rights, which may be exercised. âAnti-commonsâ problem is analyzed in situations in which resources are inefficiently under-utilized rather than over-utilized as in the familiar commons setting. In this study, fisheries problems are studied and some ways to deal with the problem are presented
