User Services and Data Management in the Luxembourg Income Study
A major goal of the Luxembourg Income Study (LIS) has been to provide researchers with access to information about the social and economic characteristics of households and families for countries throughout the world. Since this information is in the form of data files containing actual observations from household surveys, the researcher does not need to rely on statistical summaries that others have previously created. They can create tabulations and statistical analyses from the survey data that precisely fit their needs and update them easily when new data become available. Further, a system to access these data has been developed which permits researchers to generate statistics from remote locations using email as a mechanism to transmit requests and forward results. Access to these data is, in fact, restricted to this system of remote access because much of the data available through the project has been provided by the member countries with the restriction that they not be redistributed or otherwise copied. The introduction describes the evolution of the techniques and methods used to maintain the databases of household microdata and to provide remote access services to users throughout the world. The discussion begins with an overview of the system. The final chapter presents results of a recent survey of LIS users
Redefining individual and collective identities in Argentina using music censorship as a tool enforce power on culture during the military dictatorship of 1976
The military dictatorship of 1976 in Argentina used authoritarian qualities to portray acts of cruelty and control. The military run government was known worldwide for the large number of disappearances and deaths that impacted the population and created spaces of cultural transformation. Individually and collectively identities faced a certain form of makeover that can be understood through the imposition of music censorship used as a tool by the military dictatorship to enforce power. The further description of this connection will be intertwined in the relationship found between identity, music censorship, power and social movements.
[EN]: The building of dams during the second half of the 20th century at the stream of the Tagus River, Extremadura region, caused the flooding of a significant part of its archaeological heritage. Currently, the problem of safeguarding this underwater heritage should be faced in a national context where
assignments are scarce for the protection of a unique Heritage. In the present paper, we focus on the area of the Alconétar’s ford, which lies sunk today at the Alcántara reservoir. This is the environment where we have been developing a research project since 2009, which has let us to raise specific methodologies
for analysing this type of Heritage and identifying new archaeological sites.Peer Reviewe
[EN]: During the 1960 and 1970 decades, several engineering works were performed along the Tagus River for producing hydroelectric energy; consequently areas with high
potential archaeological were flooded. Since the heritage preservation polices were in
an early stage, the works didn’t count with impact evaluation assesses, and a systematic
documentation of heritage was never performed. Nowadays, there is awareness for engaging in activities directed to the underwater heritage that lies in continental waters, which should lead to a discussion about how to face its preservation. Current laws do not reflect the status of this specific underwater heritage, consequently, the sites are considered as conventional terrestrial archaeological heritage. It seems evident that is necessary to develop techniques to boost the gathering of information on the sites and their environments, which should be also dedicated to analyse and model the agents that aggravate
its deterioration.Peer Reviewe
Contributions to HiLiftPW-3 Using Structured, Overset Grid Methods
The High-Lift Common Research Model (HL-CRM) and the JAXA Standard Model (JSM) were analyzed computationally using both the OVERFLOW and LAVA codes for the third AIAA High-Lift Prediction Workshop. Geometry descriptions and the test cases simulated are described. With the HL-CRM, the effects of surface smoothness during grid projection and the effect of partially sealing a flap gap were studied. Grid refinement studies were performed at two angles of attack using both codes. For the JSM, simulations were performed with and without the nacelle/pylon. Without the nacelle/pylon, evidence of multiple solutions was observed when a quadratic constitutive relation is used in the turbulence modeling; however, using time-accurate simulation seemed to alleviate this issue. With the nacelle/pylon, no evidence of multiple solutions was observed. Laminar-turbulent transition modeling was applied to both JSM configuration, and had an overall favorable impact on the lift predictions

U-Pb, Re-Os, and 40Ar/39Ar geochronology of the Nambija Au-skarn and Pangui porphyry Cu deposits, Ecuador: implications for the Jurassic metallogenic belt of the Northern Andes
New U-Pb, Re-Os, and 40Ar/39Ar dates are presented for magmatic and hydrothermal mineral phases in skarn- and porphyry-related ores from the Nambija and Pangui districts of the Subandean zone, southeastern Ecuador. Nambija has been one of the main gold-producing centers of Ecuador since the 1980s due to exceptionally high-grade ores (average 15g/t, but frequently up to 300g/t Au). Pangui is a recently discovered porphyry Cu-Mo district. The geology of the Subandean zone in southeastern Ecuador is dominated by the I-type, subduction-related, Jurassic Zamora batholith, which intrudes Triassic volcanosedimentary rocks. The Zamora batholith is in turn cut by porphyritic stocks, which are commonly associated with skarn formation and/or porphyry-style mineralization. High precision U-Pb and Re-Os ages for porphyritic stocks (U-Pb, zircon), associated prograde skarn (U-Pb, hydrothermal titanite), and retrograde stage skarn (Re-Os, molybdenite from veins postdating gold deposition) of the Nambija district are all indistinguishable from each other within error (145Ma) and indicate a Late Jurassic age for the gold mineralization. Previously, gold mineralization at Nambija was considered to be Early Tertiary based on K-Ar ages obtained on various hydrothermal minerals. The new Jurassic age for the Nambija district is slightly younger than the 40Ar/39Ar and Re-Os ages for magmatic-hydrothermal minerals from the Pangui district, which range between 157 and 152Ma. Mineralization at Nambija and Pangui is associated with porphyritic stocks that represent the last known episodes of a long-lived Jurassic arc magmatism (∼190 to 145Ma). A Jurassic age for mineralization at Nambija and Pangui suggests that the Northern Andean Jurassic metallogenic belt, which starts in Colombia at 3° N, extends down to 5° S in Ecuador. It also adds a new mineralization style (Au-skarn) to the metal endowment of this bel
[EN]: The landscape analysis of Alconetar’s area (Cáceres province, Spain) has allowed us to obtain new data about the settlement dynamics during Late Prehistory in this region. The recently conducted surveys and test pits have been useful to trace explain the landscape evolution in three different areas close to Tagus River margins, which include settlements, megalithic burials and rock-art. In this framework, the techniques of spatial analysis and aerial photograph have played a significant role in order to interpret the archaeological record.
