Fluctuating and dissipative dynamics of dark solitons in quasi-condensates
The fluctuating and dissipative dynamics of matter-wave dark solitons within
harmonically trapped, partially condensed Bose gases is studied both
numerically and analytically. A study of the stochastic Gross-Pitaevskii
equation, which correctly accounts for density and phase fluctuations at finite
temperatures, reveals dark soliton decay times to be lognormally distributed at
each temperature, thereby characterizing the previously predicted long lived
soliton trajectories within each ensemble of numerical realizations (S.P.
Cockburn {\it et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 174101 (2010)). Expectation values
for the average soliton lifetimes extracted from these distributions are found
to agree well with both numerical and analytic predictions based upon the
dissipative Gross-Pitaevskii model (with the same {\it ab initio} damping).
Probing the regime for which , we find average
soliton lifetimes to scale with temperature as , in agreement
with predictions previously made for the low-temperature regime .
The model is also shown to capture the experimentally-relevant decrease in the
visibility of an oscillating soliton due to the presence of background

On Nonlinear Stochastic Balance Laws
We are concerned with multidimensional stochastic balance laws. We identify a
class of nonlinear balance laws for which uniform spatial bounds for
vanishing viscosity approximations can be achieved. Moreover, we establish
temporal equicontinuity in of the approximations, uniformly in the
viscosity coefficient. Using these estimates, we supply a multidimensional
existence theory of stochastic entropy solutions. In addition, we establish an
error estimate for the stochastic viscosity method, as well as an explicit
estimate for the continuous dependence of stochastic entropy solutions on the
flux and random source functions. Various further generalizations of the
results are discussed

The research partners from five European countries investigated the impact of gender segregation in European labour markets on vocational education and training, with particular regard to competences and qualifications. The research explored the part played by gender in the vocational education and training experiences of (i) young adults entering specific occupations in child care, electrical engineering and food preparation/service (ii) adults changing occupations
Empirical Investigation on Agile Methods Usage: Issues Identified from Early Adopters in Malaysia
Agile Methods are a set of software practices that can help to produce products faster and at the same time deliver what customers want. Despite the benefits that Agile methods can deliver, however, we found few studies from the Southeast Asia region, particularly Malaysia. As a result, less empirical evidence can be obtained in the country making its implementation harder. To use a new method, experience from other practitioners is critical, which describes what is important, what is possible and what is not possible concerning Agile. We conducted a qualitative study to understand the issues faced by early adopters in Malaysia where Agile methods are still relatively new. The initial study involves 13 participants including project managers, CEOs, founders and software developers from seven organisations. Our study has shown that social and human aspects are important when using Agile methods. While technical aspects have always been considered to exist in software development, we found these factors to be less important when using Agile methods. The results obtained can serve as guidelines to practitioners in the country and the neighbouring regions

Participating together: dialogic space for children and architects in the design process

Published by Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis GroupTypically enmeshed in the ‘voice’ perspective within children’s participation debates, there are currently sporadic insights into designer–child creative dialogue. Drawing on the findings of a Leverhulme Trust-funded research project, this paper articulates moments of dialogue between architects and children in spatial design processes, whose spatial and symbolic qualities help to understand the interactions and meeting of cultures. Several authors have discussed the transformational potential for adults and children to ‘co-author’ identities in dialogical contexts. The paper builds on this body of research to suggest that design dialogue offers the space, literally and metaphorically, for children and architects to participate together. Identifying the qualities of the dialogic design space as potentially present in children’s and adults’ everyday cultures and interdependent relations, it is proposed that this dialogical framework might diversify architects’ and children’s roles in the design process and enrich practices and perceptions of design participation

Dark solitons in atomic Bose-Einstein condensates: from theory to experiments
This review paper presents an overview of the theoretical and experimental
progress on the study of matter-wave dark solitons in atomic Bose-Einstein
condensates. Upon introducing the general framework, we discuss the statics and
dynamics of single and multiple matter-wave dark solitons in the quasi
one-dimensional setting, in higher-dimensional settings, as well as in the
dimensionality crossover regime. Special attention is paid to the connection
between theoretical results, obtained by various analytical approaches, and
