Intimate Partner Violence in Muslim Communities in the United States: A Theological, Psychological, and Legal Perspective

Thesis advisor: Natana DeLong-BasThis thesis analyzes intimate partner violence (IPV, also referred to as domestic violence) in Muslim communities in the U.S. from a legal, psychological, and theological perspective. IPV is a global issue—it is in no way confined to one ethnicity or religion. However, every community has its own set of challenges to face when dealing with IPV. This thesis assesses the risk factors that may be present in Muslim communities in the U.S.— risk factors include behaviors and beliefs that may harm victims of IPV as they seek help, support, and safety. It is equally important to assess sources of strength found within the community that help victims fight oppression, re-gain self-esteem, live in safety, and face their experiences of IPV with a resilient spirit. MOTIVATIONAL PREREQUISITES OF LEARNING FOREIGN LANGUAGE BY CADETS OF SPECIALIZED HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION

Цель. В статье рассматриваются актуальная проблема повышения эффективности процесса становления коммуникативной компетенции курсантов специального вуза.Предметом изучения выступает структура мотивационной сферы обучающихся. Автор ставит целью определить возможные пути воздействия на мотивацию изучения иностранных языков.Метод работы. При определении компонентов мотивационной сферы обучаемых наряду с анализом общепризнанных классификаций, учитываются и результаты собственных исследований, проведенных методом опроса и анкетирования курсантов на различных этапах обучения.Результаты работы. Результатом работы являются представленные группы мотивов, определяющие работу курсантов над иностранным языком. Предлагаются пути коррекции мотивационной сферы и развития мотивов учения для специфического контингента будущих специалистов.Область применения результатов. Результаты исследования могут применяться при отборе содержания обучения иностранному языку, при составлении учебных и методических пособий, отборе эффективных методов обучения.Purpose. The article is devoted to the topical problem of increasing the effectiveness of the process of communicative competence formation among the cadets of specialized higher educational establishment. The subject of the study is the trainees’ motivational sphere structure. The author aims to determine possible ways of influencing the motivation formation concerned with foreign languages studying.Methodology. The results of the author’s research are taken into account along with the analysis of universally recognized classifications. The trainees were questioned at various stages of training in order to determine the components of their motivational sphere.Results. The groups of motives determining the cadets’ work during foreign language course are presented. The author suggests the ways of correction of the motivational sphere and development of teaching motives for a specific category of future specialists.Practical implications. The results of the research can be used in determining the content of teaching foreign languages, creating of both educational and methodological manuals and selecting effective teaching methods

Підкреслено, що уявлення про неї як про виключно правову науку, що залишилось у спадок з часів тоталітаризму, призвело до відставання природничо-технічного напряму і відповідно негативно впливає на подальший розвиток криміналістичних досліджень. Запропоновано додатково вивчити можливість обґрунтування подвійної (юридичної та природничо-технічної) природи криміналістичної науки, у тому числі з урахуванням досвіду США та країн Європи.The article deals with the historical aspect of the development of scientific views on the nature of the science of Criminalistics in Ukraine. It is emphasized that the idea of it as the only legal science left in the heritage from the time of totalitarianism has led to a lagging natural and technical direction and consequently negatively influences the further development of research in the field of Criminalistics. It is proposed to further explore the possibility of substantiating the dual (legal and natural-technical) nature of forensic science, taking into account the experience of the United States and European countries.В статье рассмотрен исторический аспект развития научных взглядов относительно природы науки криминалистики в Украине. Подчеркнуто, что представление о ней как об исключительно правовой науке, осталось в наследство со времен тоталитаризма, привело к отставанию естественно-технического направления и соответственно негативно влияет на дальнейшее развитие криминалистических исследований. Предложено дополнительно изучить возможность обоснования двойной (юридической и естественно-технической) природы криминалистической науки, в том числе с учетом опыта США и стран Европы

ECOLOGY OF CRIME AND ECOLOGICAL EXPLANATIONS IN CRIMINOLOGY

The delinquent area, as the basic concept of ecological theory in criminology,is a natural area that exists in the city, such as ghettos, which ariseс in the processof urbanization and development and is significant for its characteristic patterns ofantisocial behavior. The concept of a delinquent area comes directly from the conceptof a natural area in environmental theory, and the epithet “delinquent” refers to thedominant pattern of behavior expressed by a large number of residents in that area.The theory of crime prevention, through the appearance of the environment, is basedon the simple idea that the crime partly originates from the circumstances that arein the physical environment. Some of the research in the field of victimology wasdevoted to examining the impact that a ‘satisfactory’ neighborhood would haveon victimization and social participation of the population, and ultimately on theexperience of security in the neighborhood. It is emphasized that such an approachpresupposes systematic testing of the relative importance of victimization, theimportance of the quality of the neighborhood environment and social integrationwithin society in preventing the fear of crime. The observation of child abuse in thedelinquent area, related to the unity of the environment-sociology-culture model, isfocused on the experience of stress in society, which is considered to be the primarycause of victimization. This category of abuse includes the following causes: stressenvironment model; social learning model; socio-psychological model and the model of psychosocial systems

Запропоновано повернутися до концепції її подвійної (природничо-технічної та юридичної) природи, уточнити предметну галузь криміналістичної техніки та систему криміналістики загалом, висвітлити співвідношення криміналістики з іншими науками.The article deals with the problematic issues of the nature of the science of criminalistics in Ukraine and the possibility of its development in the light of the US experience.В статье рассмотрены проблемные вопросы природы науки криминалистики в Украине и возможности ее развития с учетом опыта США. На основании изучения отечественных и зарубежных источников, проанализирована система криминалистической науки в Украине и США. Предложено вернуться к концепции ее двойной (естественно-технической и юридической) природы, уточнить предметную область криминалистической техники и систему криминалистики в целом, осветить соотношение криминалистики с другими науками
