Preporsition for bachelor thesis project, working from the inside and out. Emphasising spatial quality and experience, More or less ignoring form and program. I’ve had issues with these aspects in earlier project, the form or the program takes alot of place in the project. I haven’t tried this approach before, it’s an attractive thought to allow the project take a form of it’s own, enclosing those spaces i create. The initial concept was to place the pools on the ground (not digging them into the ground) making them volumes that divide and define spaces. Also shifting the interaction between those in the water and those walking alongside the edges. The ceiling should mirror the spaces created by the pool. sinking down over some areas and opening up above others. My process is usually exploratory, I find something i can’t undestand or something where i can’t image the outcome. I play with this until patterns emerge or i feel i can control it. In that stage the inspiration vains. It’s magical to experiencing new things and constantly learning. When i come to that state the project tends to generate itself. During this thesis project I want to define my own process. I want to put it into words in order to understand it myself, but also in order to communicate it to others. Map it all out and hopefully find what makes a project selfgenerating. Filter everything and find the essence of what i’ve learned from my education.

    Accessibility of Nonlinear Time-Delay Systems

    Get PDF
A full characterization of accessibility is provided for nonlinear time-delay systems. It generalizes the rank condition which is known for weak controllability of linear time-delay systems, as well as the celebrated geometric approach for delay-free nonlinear systems and the characterization of their accessibility. Besides, fundamental results are derived on integrability and basis completion which are of major importance for a number of general control problems for nonlinear time-delay systems. They are shown to impact preconceived ideas about canonical forms for nonlinear time-delay systems

On the reduction of hypercubic lattice artifacts

This note presents a comparative study of various options to reduce the errors coming from the discretization of a Quantum Field Theory in a lattice with hypercubic symmetry. We show that it is possible to perform an extrapolation towards the continuum which is able to eliminate systematically the artifacts which break the O(4) symmetry.Comment: 15 pages. 4 figures. Integrability for Nonlinear Time-Delay Systems

    Get PDF
In this note, the notion of integrability is defined for 1-forms defined in the time-delay context. While in the delay-free case, a set of 1-forms defines a vector space, it is shown that 1-forms computed for time-delay systems have to be viewed as elements of a module over a certain non-commutative polynomial ring. Two notions of integrability are defined, strong and weak integrability, which coincide in the delay-free case. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given to check if a set of 1-forms is strongly or weakly integrable. To show the importance of the topic, integrability of 1-forms is used to characterize the accessibility property for nonlinear time-delay systems. The possibility of transforming a system into a certain normal form is also considered

Convergence to Purchasing Power Parity at the Commencement of the Euro

    Get PDF
We investigate convergence towards Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) within the Euro Zone and between the Euro Zone and its main partners using panel data methods that incorporate serial and contemporaneous correlation. We find strong rejections of the unit root hypothesis, and therefore evidence of PPP, in the Euro Zone for different numeraire currencies, as well as in the Euro Zone plus the United States, with the US dollar as the numeraire currency, starting between 1996 and 1999. The process of convergence towards PPP, however, begins earlier, generally in 1992 or 1993 following the adoption of the Maastricht Treaty.PPP EURO PANEL UNIT ROOT

    Document Retrieval on Repetitive Collections

Document retrieval aims at finding the most important documents where a pattern appears in a collection of strings. Traditional pattern-matching techniques yield brute-force document retrieval solutions, which has motivated the research on tailored indexes that offer near-optimal performance. However, an experimental study establishing which alternatives are actually better than brute force, and which perform best depending on the collection characteristics, has not been carried out. In this paper we address this shortcoming by exploring the relationship between the nature of the underlying collection and the performance of current methods. Via extensive experiments we show that established solutions are often beaten in practice by brute-force alternatives. We also design new methods that offer superior time/space trade-offs, particularly on repetitive collections.Comment: Accepted to ESA 2014. Dynamics and rheology of a dilute suspension of vesicles: higher order theory

Vesicles under shear flow exhibit various dynamics: tank-treading (tttt), tumbling (tbtb) and vacillating-breathing (vbvb). A consistent higher order theory reveals a direct bifurcation from tttt to tbtb if Caâ‰ĄÏ„ÎłË™C_a\equiv \tau \dot\gamma is small enough (τ\tau= vesicle relaxation time towards equilibrium shape, γ˙\dot\gamma=shear rate). At larger CaC_a the tbtb is preceded by the vbvb mode. For Ca≫1C_a\gg 1 we recover the leading order original calculation, where the vbvb mode coexists with tbtb. The consistent calculation reveals several quantitative discrepancies with recent works, and points to new features. We analyse rheology and find that the effective viscosity exhibits a minimum at tt−tbtt-tb and tt−vbtt-vb bifurcation points.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
