    Authentication via OpenAthens: Implementing a Single Sign-on Solution for Primo, Alma, and EZproxy

    OpenAthens is a hosted identity and access management service that provides a streamlined solution for implementing single sign-on authentication. This presentation will outline the steps East Tennessee State University took to configure OpenAthens authentication across the Alma, Primo, and EZproxy platforms. We will give a brief overview of the internal configurations related to LDAP integration, allocating electronic resources, and selectively assigning permissions. Finally, we will share our experiences with OpenAthens including support, vendor adoption, and end user benefits

    A-Z Database Discovery using Alma: Eliminate Redundancy and Simplify your Workflow

    Frustrated by having to maintain an A-Z databases list separately on our library website and in Alma/Primo, East Tennessee State University embarked on a goal to eliminate redundancy by using Alma as our primary source of metadata for eResources. This presentation will cover our entire workflow and the issues we encountered along the way. I\u27ll first go over our process in Alma including MARC record creation, electronic collection setup, and the top level collection module. Next, I\u27ll cover our workflow in Primo including normalization rules, scoping, and PNX display. The last section will cover the Alma API\u27s and how they were used to sync our LibGuides A-Z list

    Marketing Book Collections: Creating Digital Displays Using Alma Analytics

    Libraries purchase and subscribe to many new book titles each year. Instead of waiting for patrons to find these new titles in Primo, East Tennessee State University decided to develop automated book sliders using data from Alma Analytics. These sliders are now deployed in our subject guides, website, and on our digital displays. This presentation will give participants a high-level overview of our workflow and the tools we used. I\u27ll first go over Alma Analytics, defining collection scopes and required fields. Next, I\u27ll cover our process of retrieving the data via API and formatting the data into a JSON array. The last section will cover the implementation of slider widgets and use of book covers

    East Tennessee State University recently adopted Alma & Primo and was suprised by the lack of an A-Z database discovery module. Frustrated by having to maintain electronic resources separately on our library website and in Alma, we embarked on a goal to eliminate redundancy and use Alma/Primo exclusively. This presentation will cover our entire workflow in both Alma & Primo and the issues we encountered along the way.     Not Enough Cooks in the Kitchen: Balancing Quality and Speed in Services

In this session, participants will develop a menu of current services offered in their position or department. After group discussions on criteria for evaluating services and shortening workflows, participants will eliminate one service and/or shorten its prep time in order to add a forward thinking service

    Addressing Textbook Affordability with Institutional Licensed E-textbooks

    The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of a textbook affordability project implemented during 2020-2021 at East Tennessee State University (four-year public doctoral institution with over 14,500 students). The project involved an acquisitions librarian, electronic resources librarian, and digital scholarship librarian who worked together to identify and acquire institutionally licensed textbooks utilizing campus bookstore data. The library created customized textbook permalinks for instructors to insert into their course Learning Management System (LMS) for tracking and support purposes. In addition, the library provided a searchable list of course textbooks on their website using the Springshare E-Reserves module. Near the end of each semester, surveys were sent to students and instructors to assess their satisfaction with the service and impressions of using e-textbooks. The overview includes our project workflow, including implementation, faculty communication, acquisition, discovery, and ongoing support. We will also highlight issues encountered and offer best practices for ongoing support and management of the program. In addition, we will provide summaries of the student and instructor surveys

    A Mixed-Methods Analysis of a Library-Based Hand-Held Intervention with Rural Clinicians

    Background: The East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine Library has participated for several years in projects to provide rural clinicians with health information resources. Objectives: To determine whether a strategy of hand‐held devices with a best‐evidence point‐of‐care disease tool and a drug database paired with access to a medical library for full‐text articles and training to use the tools would be an affordable way to meet the information needs of rural underserved clinicians. Methods: This study is a mixed‐methods methodology. The first project was evaluated using a randomised controlled trial (RCT) methodology. The second was evaluated qualitatively using interviews and focus groups. Results: The quantitative findings discovered that clinicians equipped with a hand‐held device with evidence‐based software more frequently found answers to clinical questions, found answers more quickly, were more satisfied with information they found and use expensive resources such as continuing medical education, online databases and textbooks less than the group that did not have access to online technology. Qualitative results supported the quantitative findings. Conclusion: Librarians can implement a three‐pronged strategy of the secondary literature via a hand‐held, the primary literature via Loansome Doc and quality training to meet basic information needs of rural clinicians

    Is Attendance Really Declining at Games?: An Analysis of Walk-ins Versus Web Counts

    Objectives: The purpose is to see if there is a relationship between declining walk-in visitor counts and increased library web access. The overall objective is to evaluate library services and find better and more efficient ways to meet the needs of walk-in and virtual patrons. Methods: Compile past five years of walk-in visitor statistics from the library. Retrieve past five years of website statistics from Google Analytics. These two sets of data will be compared and analyzed for any correlation. We hypothesize the data will show a steady decrease in walk-in visitors along with a continued increase in website visitors. We hope to find a period during the past five years where the two values intersect. If a clear relation exists, we will identify possible factors that can be attributed to these changes. Results: The combination of online “visits” combined with walkin visits gives an entirely different picture of the use of libraries by patrons. Conclusion: Librarians should not be wedded to success markers of past eras. By updating measures of recording “attendance,” a more truthful picture emerges about the true popularity of libraries. This type of data is essential, since libraries are under more pressure to justify their existence
