    Encapsulation of Cs/Sr contaminated clinoptilolite in geopolymers produced from metakaolin

    The encapsulation of caesium (Cs) and strontium (Sr) contaminated clinoptilolite in Na and K based metakaolin geopolymers is reported. When Cs or Sr loaded clinoptilolite is mixed with a metakaolin geopolymer paste, the high pH of the activating solution and the high concentration of ions in solution cause ion exchange reactions and dissolution of clinoptilolite with release of Cs and Sr into the geopolymer matrix. The leaching of Cs and Sr from metakaolin-based geopolymer has therefore been investigated. It was found that Na-based geopolymers reduce leaching of Cs compared to K-based geopolymers and the results are in agreement with the hard and soft acids and bases (HSAB) theory. Cs ions are weak Lewis acids and aluminates are a weak Lewis base. During the formation of the geopolymer matrix Cs ions are preferentially bound to aluminate phases and replace Na in the geopolymer structure. Sr uptake by Na-geopolymers is limited to 0.4 mol Sr per mole of Al and any additional Sr is immobilised by the high pH which causes precipitation of Sr as low solubility hydroxide and carbonate phases. There was no evidence of any other phases being formed when Sr or Cs are added to metakaolin geopolymers

    Laser Radiation Effects on Adenine

    Laser interaction whitthe gas phase nucleobase adenine is studied. A linear TOF mass spectrometer is utilized for measurements that require high mass resolution, high sensitivity, and sufficient ion yields of low mass fragment cations. The ion mass spectra are discussed at different laser energy intensities and two temperatures. In contrast to previous studies a number light ion is present in the mass spectra. The ion formation curves for 23 different ions are measured for the laser energy range from about 109 to 1010 W cm–2 and masses between 1 and 43 besides mass 57 which was present in the mass spectra and will be discuss. Data were taken heating the sample at 235 Co. The number of 355nm absorbed photons was calculated accordingly to Keldysh theory and similar results were found using adenine -Ar mixture. Our results are compared with those reported formed by protons, electrons or multiple charged ions interactions. Different ions were found indicating the possible effect of multiphoton absorption

    Efficiency enhancement by reconfigurable matching networks in LINC transmitters

    This paper proposes the use of a transmitter based on a linear amplification with nonlinear components (LINC) architecture, in which the reconfigurable matching networks (RMNs) are included. By varying the RMN active cell number, it is possible to change the load impedance at the power amplifier (PA) output, improving the amplifier drain efficiency and therefore the efficiency of the whole system. A long-term evolution (LTE) downlink signal with a bandwidth of 1.4 MHz and a peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of 11.48 dB is applied in order to carry out the experiments. Results show that the use of the RMNs in a LINC architecture improves the efficiency at all tested frequencies, especially at 927 MHz reaching an enhancement of 36.50%. Regarding the distortion, the adjacent channel leakage ratio (ACLR) values increase in all cases, with an improvement of 3.5 dB at 958 MHz. Finally, in terms of error vector magnitude (EVM), the proposed architecture offers a value of 1.96% at 927 MHz
