Evaluation of the Satisfaction and Usefulness of a Web-Based Educational Program for Breast Cancer Patients

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a web-based breast cancer educational program which consists of special features such as flash animations and online counseling as well as 7 different categories of information on breast cancer. The effectiveness of the program was analyzed in terms of its function and content. A total of 147 women with breast cancer who visited the website for at least 30 minutes and a minimum of 3 visits, participated in the survey

Generation of PLZF+ CD4+ T cells via MHC class II–dependent thymocyte–thymocyte interaction is a physiological process in humans

Human thymocytes, unlike mouse thymocytes, express major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II molecules on their surface, especially during the fetal and perinatal stages. Based on this observation, we previously identified a novel developmental pathway for the generation of CD4+ T cells via interactions between MHC class II–expressing thymocytes (thymocyte–thymocyte [T–T] interactions) with a transgenic mouse system. However, the developmental dissection of this T–T interaction in humans has not been possible because of the lack of known cellular molecules specific for T–T CD4+ T cells. We show that promyelocytic leukemia zinc finger protein (PLZF) is a useful marker for the identification of T–T CD4+ T cells. With this analysis, we determined that a substantial number of fetal thymocytes and splenocytes express PLZF and acquire innate characteristics during their development in humans. Although these characteristics are quite similar to invariant NKT (iNKT) cells, they clearly differ from iNKT cells in that they have a diverse T cell receptor repertoire and are restricted by MHC class II molecules. These findings define a novel human CD4+ T cell subset that develops via an MHC class II–dependent T–T interaction

Controlling the properties of poly(amino ester urethane)-poly (ethylene glycol)-poly(amino ester urethane) triblock copolymer pH/temperature-sensitive hydrogel

A series of triblock copolymers composed of poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(β-amino ester urethane) (PAEU) was synthesized and characterized. Its aqueous solution can be used as a non-cytotoxic, biodegradable, and pH/temperature-sensitive hydrogel system. The copolymer solutions exhibited sol-to-gel and gel-to-sol transitions with increasing pH and temperature, respectively. The properties of this hydrogel system, such as its sol-gel transition diagram, mechanical properties, and degradation rate, can be controlled by modulating the PEG molecular weight, PAEU block length, copolymer concentration, or structure of the monomers. The presence of urethane groups and ionized tertiary amine groups in the copolymer solution at lightly acidic pH may lead to a strong interaction of the copolymer with formulated bioactive therapeutic agents, while the existence of the gel state under physiological conditions (37 °C, pH 7.4) may enable this copolymer hydrogel to be applicable as a drug/protein carrier

Recent advances in triboelectric nanogenerators: from technological progress to commercial applications

Serious climate changes and energy-related environmental problems are currently critical issues in the world. In order to reduce carbon emissions and save our environment, renewable energy harvesting technologies will serve as a key solution in the near future. Among them, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), which is one of the most promising mechanical energy harvesters by means of contact electrification phenomenon, are explosively developing due to abundant wasting mechanical energy sources and a number of superior advantages in a wide availability and selection of materials, relatively simple device configurations, and low-cost processing. Significant experimental and theoretical efforts have been achieved toward understanding fundamental behaviors and a wide range of demonstrations since its report in 2012. As a result, considerable technological advancement has been exhibited and it advances the timeline of achievement in the proposed roadmap. Now, the technology has reached the stage of prototype development with verification of performance beyond the lab scale environment toward its commercialization. In this review, distinguished authors in the world worked together to summarize the state of the art in theory, materials, devices, systems, circuits, and applications in TENG fields. The great research achievements of researchers in this field around the world over the past decade are expected to play a major role in coming to fruition of unexpectedly accelerated technological advances over the next decade
