    Get PDF
We present the first study of the masses and decay constants of the pseudoscalar D D mesons in two flavors lattice QCD with domain-wall fermion. The gauge ensembles are generated on the 243×4824^3 \times 48 lattice with the extent Ns=16 N_s = 16 in the fifth dimension, and the plaquette gauge action at β=6.10 \beta = 6.10 , for three sea-quark masses with corresponding pion masses in the range 260475260-475 MeV. We compute the point-to-point quark propagators, and measure the time-correlation functions of the pseudoscalar and vector mesons. The inverse lattice spacing is determined by the Wilson flow, while the strange and the charm quark masses by the masses of the vector mesons ϕ(1020) \phi(1020) and J/ψ(3097) J/\psi(3097) respectively. Using heavy meson chiral perturbation theory (HMChPT) to extrapolate to the physical pion mass, we obtain fD=202.3(2.2)(2.6) f_D = 202.3(2.2)(2.6) MeV and fDs=258.7(1.1)(2.9) f_{D_s} = 258.7(1.1)(2.9) MeV.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures. v2: the statistics of ensemble (A) with m_sea = 0.005 has been increased, more details on the systematic error, to appear in Phys. Lett.

Unraveling implicit human behavioral effects on dynamic characteristics of Covid-19 daily infection rates in Taiwan

We study Covid-19 spreading dynamics underlying 84 curves of daily Covid-19 infection rates pertaining to 84 districts belonging to the largest seven cities in Taiwan during her pristine surge period. Our computational developments begin with selecting and extracting 18 features from each smoothed district-specific curve. This step of computing effort allows unstructured data to be converted into structured data, with which we then demonstrate asymmetric growth and decline dynamics among all involved curves. Specifically, based on Theoretical Information measurements of conditional entropy and mutual information, we compute major factors of order-1 and order-2 that reveal significant effects on affecting the curves' peak value and curvature at peak, which are two essential features characterizing all the curves. Further, we investigate and demonstrate major factors determining the geographic and social-economic induced behavioral effects by encoding each of these 84 districts with two binary characteristics: North-vs-South and Unban-vs-suburban. Furthermore, based on this data-driven knowledge on the district scale, we go on to study fine-scale behavioral effects on infectious disease spreading through similarity among 96 age-group-specific curves of daily infection rate within 12 urban districts of Taipei and 12 suburban districts of New Taipei City, which counts for almost one-quarter of the island nation's total population. We conclude that human living, traveling, and working behaviors do implicitly affect the spreading dynamics of Covid-19 across Taiwan profoundly

This paper first presents cyclic test results  and  the  application  of  the proposed sandwiched buckling-restrained brace (BRB).  The proposed BRB can be easily  disassembled  in the field.  This  provides  an opportunity for inspection of  the  core  after  a  large  earthquake.  The  mechanics  and  cyclic  behavior  of  a novel  steel  dual-core  self-centering  brace  (SCB)  are  then  proposed  and introduced, followed by  the  testing of  a  dual-core SCB  in order  to evaluate  its cyclic  performance.  Both  braces  achieve  an  excellent  target  lateral  drift performance  of  up to 2.5%,  thus  satisfying  the seismic requirement by  the  AISC Seismic Provisions 2010

The relationship between velocity utilization rate and pole vault performance

    Get PDF
In the pole vault event, the velocity of approach is a highly vital factor. As velocity of approach improvements highly impact performance improvements. This study analysed the relationships between sprint running’s speed (SR), pole running (PR, without jump), and the pole vault approach (PVA, with real jump). Analysed too were the relationships between both the approach and performance’s respective running distance, velocity, and velocity utilization rates. Methods: Ten male pole vaulters were recruited. Measured was each 5-meter segment’s average velocity of his respective SR, PR, and PVA, along with the distance to maximum velocity. Results: The maximum average velocity of the PR’s 5m segments altogether was significantly positively correlated with pole vault (PV) performance; The maximum average velocity of the PR’s 5m segments altogether was significantly positively correlated with the last 5m PVA average velocity; The PVA velocity’s utilization rate was significantly negatively correlated with the difference between the distance to the PR’s maximum velocity and the PVA’s distance. Conclusion: The PR segment’s maximum speed capability can evaluate both a pole vaulter’s potential and pole vault-specific abilities. This study’s recruited pole vaulters’ respective approach distances were generally insufficient that resulted in a lower velocity utilization rate. Suggested is that in training, the pole vaulter could first find the distance required to reach the highest velocity upon starting from the PR test. Thus, this subsequently known distance could be applied in tandem with the pole vault’s approach to both improve the PVA’s utilization rate and reach the individual highest speed level

Mechanical ball shear, electromigration, and thermal cycling reliability testing on novel solder interconnects of highly integrated chips for advanced applications

In the near future, Ultra Large Scale Integrated Circuits (ULSI) with high integration has drawn the huge attention because of its potential applications in VR, AI, IoTs and automotive regions. Thermal budget and reliability concerns are two major issues that are urgently needed to be solved for these technologies. Since the increasing integration of ICs might lead to low yield concern, low fabrication temperature is expected to reduce the thermal impact on ICs properties. Besides, better reliability is also required to the electric devices for those to work under harsh outdoor environments. This study is tended to be focused on the novel solder bonds for the advanced ICs, including low temperature solder, Cu-core solder ball, and their response under various reliability tests. Three main reliability tests: (1) ball shear test, (2) electromigration test (EM) and (3) thermal cycling test (TCT), are conducted to evaluate the reliability of solder bonds. In this work, the novel Bi-40In solder alloy with improved mechanical property and the EM-resisted Cu-core solder ball are demonstrated. The re-designed low temperature solder joint reveals the superior ball shear strength than that of conventional eutectic Bi-33In joint. Additionally, the interconnects using Cu-core solder ball show the high resistance against EM under current stressing. Regarding TCT, the assemble joints with various grain structures are tested to realize the effects of Sn grain size on joint degradation and the possible ways for relieving the thermomechanical stress caused by TCT. The microstructure, elemental characteristics and grain structure are analyzed by FE-SEM, FE-EPMA and EBSD, respectively. The failure mechanisms for all reliability tests are addressed and discussed in details as well

Risk factors for subsidence in anterior cervical fusion with stand-alone polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cages: a review of 82 cases and 182 levels

INTRODUCTION: To determine risk factors for subsidence in patients treated with anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and stand-alone polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cages. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Records of patients with degenerative spondylosis or traumatic disc herniation resulting in radiculopathy or myelopathy between C2 and C7 who underwent ACDF with stand-alone PEEK cages were retrospectively reviewed. Cages were filled with autogenous cancellous bone harvested from iliac crest or hydroxyapatite. Subsidence was defined as a decrease of 3 mm or more of anterior or posterior disc height from that measured on the postoperative radiograph. Eighty-two patients (32 males, 50 females; 182 treatment levels) were included in the analysis. RESULTS: Most patients had 1–2 treatment levels (62.2 %), and 37.8 % had 3–4 treatment levels. Treatment levels were from C2–7. Of the 82 patients, cage subsidence occurred in 31 patients, and at 39 treatment levels. Multivariable analysis showed that subsidence was more likely to occur in patients with more than two treatment levels, and more likely to occur at treatment levels C5–7 than at levels C2–5. Subsidence was not associated with postoperative alignment change but associated with more disc height change (relatively oversized cage). CONCLUSION: Subsidence is associated with a greater number of treatment levels, treatment at C5–7 and relatively oversized cage use

BACKGROUND: Interferon Regulatory Factor 6 (IRF6) is a member of the IRF family of transcription factors. It has been suggested to be an important contributor to orofacial development since mutations of the IRF6 gene has been found in Van der Woude (VWS) and popliteal pterygium syndromes (PPS), two disorders that can present with isolated cleft lip and palate. The association between IRF6 gene and cleft lip and palate has also been independently replicated in many populations. METHODS: We screened a total of 155 Taiwanese patients with cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL/P); 31 syndromic (including 19 VWS families), 44 non-syndromic families with at least two affected members, and 80 non-syndromic patients through a combined targeted, polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based mutation analysis for the entire coding regions of IRF6 gene. RESULTS: We found 11 mutations in 57.89% (11/19) of the VWS patients and no IRF6 mutation in 44 of the non-syndromic multiplex families and 80 non-syndromic oral cleft patients. In this IRF6 gene screening, five of these mutations (c.290 A>G, p.Tyr97Cys; c.360-375 16 bp deletion, p.Gln120HisfsX24; c.411_412 insA, p.Glu136fsX3; c.871 A>C, p.Thr291Pro; c.969 G>A, and p.Trp323X) have not been reported in the literature previously. Exon deletion was not detected in this series of IRF6 gene screening. CONCLUSIONS: Our results confirm the crucial role of IRF6 in the VWS patients and further work is needed to explore for its function in the non-syndromic oral cleft with vary clinical features
