Pathways into services for offenders with intellectual disabilities : childhood experience, diagnostic information and offence variables

The patterns and pathways into intellectual disability (ID) offender services were studied through case file review for 477 participants referred in one calendar year to community generic, community forensic, and low, medium, and maximum secure services. Data were gathered on referral source, demographic information, index behavior, prior problem behaviors, diagnostic information, and abuse or deprivation. Community referrers tended to refer to community services and secure service referrers to secure services. Physical and verbal violence were the most frequent index behaviors, whereas contact sexual offenses were more prominent in maximum security. Age at first incident varied with security, with the youngest in maximum secure services. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder or conduct disorder was the most frequently recorded diagnosis, and severe deprivation was the most frequent adverse developmental experience. Fire starting, theft, and road traffic offenses did not feature prominently. Generic community services accepted a number of referrals with forensic-type behavior and had higher proportions of both women and people with moderate or severe ID

Is the 7/2^<->_<1> isomer state of ^<43>S spherical?

We report on the spectroscopic quadrupole moment measurement of the 7/2−1 isomeric state in S271643 [E∗=320.5(5)  keV, T1/2=415(3)  ns], using the time dependent perturbed angular distribution technique at the RIKEN RIBF facility. Our value, ∣Qs∣=23(3)  efm2, is larger than that expected for a single-particle state. Shell model calculations using the modern SDPF-U interaction for this mass region reproduce remarkably well the measured ∣Qs∣, and show that non-negligible correlations drive the isomeric state away from a purely spherical shape

Propionibacterium acnes: first finding in animal pathology

The authors have isolated Propionibacterium acnes from a blood culture of a dog with chronic cystitis. This germ has never been previously isolated in animal pathology but only in human suppuratives diseases. The pathogenic effects of the germ, normal host of the skin and of the natural cavities, are reported. Consequently, in veterinary medecine, the impor tance of hygienein general and desinfection in particular have a great value when skin wounds occur

Rb 9737 60: The cornerstone of the region of deformation around A~100

Excited states of the neutron-rich nuclei Rb97,99 were populated for the first time using the multistep Coulomb excitation of radioactive beams. Comparisons of the results with particle-rotor model calculations provide clear identification for the ground-state rotational band of Rb97 as being built on the πg9/2 [431]3/2+ Nilsson-model configuration. The ground-state excitation spectra of the Rb isotopes show a marked distinction between single-particle-like structures below N=60 and rotational bands above. The present study defines the limits of the deformed region around A∼100 and indicates that the deformation of Rb97 is essentially the same as that observed well inside the deformed region. It further highlights the power of the Coulomb-excitation technique for obtaining spectroscopic information far from stability. The Rb99 case demonstrates the challenges of studies with very short-lived postaccelerated radioactive beams
