An interactive mobile learning system for generic wireless networks

    Get PDF
This paper describes how a simple interactive mobile learning system, originally developed for the 2G system, evolved to a system for the 3G (TD-SCDMA) system, then to a system for the WiFi access system and finally become a generic Interactive Wireless Mobile Learning System which can be used in any wireless networks. The system designs in different stages of evolution are presented. To promote mobile learning and celebrate the Beijing 2008 Olympics, the Wireless Mobile Learning System was modified to become a tool used in an Inter-School Mobile Quiz Contest with participation of 17 secondary and primary schools and the results were very successful and encouraging.published_or_final_versionThe 5th IEEE GCC Conference & Exhibition, Kuwait City, Kuwait, 17-19 March 2009. Evaluation of MEMS Structures with Directional Characteristics Based on FRAT and Lifting Wavelet

    Get PDF
Steps and grooves, which have typical directional characteristic, are two main functional structures of MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems). This paper proposes a method for analysis and evaluation of MEMS steps and grooves based on finite radon transform (FRAT) and lifting wavelet. The method consists of three steps. Firstly, FRAT is adopted to detect the directional characteristic of a MEMS structure. Secondly, on the basis of the directional characteristic obtained, the profiles of the MEMS structure are analyzed by lifting wavelet. Finally, Histogram-fitting is employed for areal evaluation of a MEMS structure. Simulated and experimental results show that MEMS structures with directional characteristic can be extracted and evaluated by the method effectively

A New Optimization Cost Model for VLSI Standard Cell Placement

    Get PDF
In this paper, we propose a new optimization cost model for VLSI placement. It distinguishes itself from the traditional wire-length cost model by having direct impact on the quality of the detailed routing phase. We also extend the well-known simulated annealing standard cell placement algorithm by applying our new cost model. Experimental results show that we got 13% layout area reduction compared to traditional wire length model, 11% reduction to commercial tool.published_or_final_versio

Dijet resonance from leptophobic Z' and light baryonic cold dark matter

    Get PDF
In light of the recent CDF report on the excess in the Wjj channel, we analyze (non)supersymmetric U(1)_B x U(1)_L model, interpreting the dijet peak as a leptophobic U(1)_B gauge boson. If this excess is confirmed, it has an interesting implication for the baryonic cold dark matter (CDM) in the model: there should be light CDM with a few GeV mass, and direct detection cross section at the level of a few x 10^{-2} pb.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, version published in Phys.
